We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity. We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen. • • • •

Welcome to Sligo today. Today’s message may be a difficult one for many of us to handle because it happens to fall into the category of what many would consider one of the most controversial subjects in the church today. Now, before you begin to feel too uncomfortable, allow me to put you at ease by saying that my message today is not about women’s ordination or sexual orientation. Although for some, these may be easier subjects to discuss than our topic today. Just to be clear, today’s topic is one, which Jesus spoke a great deal about. As a matter of fact, 16 out of 38 of his parables deal with this issue. And in the Gospels, 1 out of every 10 verses deals directly with this topic. So what is this controversial subject which Jesus spoke a great deal about, but with which many Christians are uncomfortable at best? Why, it’s money. That’s right, m-o-n-e-y, also known in some circles as the third rail of church topics to discuss. In our message, God vs. Money: A Battle for the Heart, we will discover why such an important topic for Jesus is such a sensitive one for his disciples. - Charles A. Tapp
