Welcome to Sligo Church. Today we conclude Washington Adventist University’s week of revival as students and those in our community gathered each night seeking spiritual renewal and rejuvenation. The true story of three African-American women who worked as “computers” to solve complex mathematical equations for NASA is told in Margot Lee Shetterly’s book, Hidden Figures. What I found most moving about the book was not only the significant role these women played in American astronautical history, but the revealing fact that their story had been untold and hence hidden for more than 60 years. Could it be there are Biblical stories that go untold today? Today, we will be looking at a story in the Bible that has been hidden in the Book of Romans. A casual reading of the Bible would cause us to miss a name like Tertius who is mentioned only once Tertius is a New Testament hidden figure. Yet, the mention of Tertius’ name by the apostle Paul speaks to the promise that even though you may feel forgotten you’re never a “hidden figure” in the eyes of God. - Joseph Khabbaz

what we believe

profile of giving - March 23

We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity. We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen.

Children’s Message Responsive Scripture Reading Romans 8:13-17 (NIV)

Jonathan Ogburn Stacey Guevara

Leader: For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Congregation: For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. Leader: The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” Congregation: The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. All: Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
