We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity . We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen.

Welcome to Sligo. I’m sure that many of you are familiar with the well-known phrase, “One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.” This popular phrase is used in reference to a situation in which one person’s negative attitude or bad behavior has the potential of negatively impacting those who are in close proximity. It comes from the idea that one bad or rotten apple when placed among good ones can cause them to become bad as well. The reason for this is that when apples begin to decay, they emit gases. When good apples absorb these gases, they begin to rot as well. If a rotten apple ever comes in close contact with some good ones, then over an extended period of time, you know the damage that it can cause. Today as we continue our series on the book of Revelation, we will see how the church at Thyatira had to deal with a rotten apple within its midst. A rotten apple, if not dealt with decisively and swiftly, has the potential of causing the good ones to experience decay as well. - Charles A. Tapp
