We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity . We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen.

Welcome to Sligo. I’m sure that many of you are familiar with the well-known phrase, “One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.” This popular phrase is used in reference to a situation in which one person’s negative attitude or bad behavior has the potential of negatively impacting those who are in close proximity. It comes from the idea that one bad or rotten apple when placed among good ones can cause them to become bad as well. The reason for this is that when apples begin to decay, they emit gases. When good apples absorb these gases, they begin to rot as well. If a rotten apple ever comes in close contact with some good ones, then over an extended period of time, you know the damage that it can cause. Today as we continue our series on the book of Revelation, we will see how the church at Thyatira had to deal with a rotten apple within its midst. A rotten apple, if not dealt with decisively and swiftly, has the potential of causing the good ones to experience decay as well. - Charles A. Tapp

Leader: But I will not destroy them all,” says the Lord. “For just as good grapes are found among a cluster of bad ones (and someone will say, ‘Don’t throw them all away — some of those grapes are good!’), so I will not destroy all Israel. For I still have true servants there.

Zelma Edwards, pianist

Leading our music today are: Paul Byssainthe, Jr., organist Kay Rosburg, chorister

Congregation: I will preserve a remnant of the people of Israel and of Judah to possess my land. Those I choose will inherit it, and my servants will live there. Leader: The plain of Sharon will again be filled with flocks for my people who have searched for me, and the valley of Achor will be a place to pasture herds. Congregation: “But because the rest of you have forsaken the Lord and have forgotten his Temple, and because you have prepared feasts to honor the god of Fate and have offered mixed wine to the god of Destiny, All: now I will ‘destine’ you for the sword. All of you will bow down before the executioner. For when I called, you did not answer. When I spoke, you did not listen. You deliberately sinned—before my very eyes—and chose to do what you know I despise.”

sabbath devotional

“God knows our situation; He will not judge us as if we had no difficulties to overcome. What matters is the sincerity and perseverance of our will to overcome them.” - C.S. Lewis

Simple Truths for Life: Sligo’s Radio Ministry, can be heard each Sabbath morning from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. on WGTS 91.9 FM. Listen with friends, then invite them to come to church in person at 11:00 a.m. Download past episodes or subscribe to future episodes for free from Simple Truths for Life by Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church from the iTunes Store. You can also go to simpletruthsforlife. org/podcast Prayer Requests: Families of these deceased: Sam Vedamony, Joseph Sharp & Shirley Womack For healing and comfort: William Mack & Keith Mack A Celebration of Life for longtime Sligo member, Clarence Dunbebin, will be held tomorrow, November 11, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sligo Sanctuary. Clarence passed away on October 4 at the age of 89. He served as Principal of Sligo SDA School for 21 years. He is survived by his children, Sharin, Donna, Bob and daughterin-law, Marcia. For more information, contact Bob Dunbebin at 301.455.9241 or <intlmail69@gmail.com> Exploring the Gospels: Join Pastor Don McFarlane on Tuesday, November 20, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., for an introduction to the New Testament book of Mark. The most dramatic of the Gospels, Mark presents the authority, influence and suffering of Jesus more passionately than his fellow Gospel writers. Believed to be the first of the four Gospels to be written, you will learn about why it was written and to whom it was written. Bring your Bible and a friend to Sligo Church, Fellowship A. The class will not meet on November 13. Budget Booster: Our Sligo Church Family has always been faithful in their giving and for this we thank you. However, as you can see in the Profile of Giving, we are far behind our goal for the Church Budget this year. To help us meet our budgeted goal, we have set a challenge of $20,000 for the Budget Booster for the months of November and December. This is in addition to what is given for the Church Budget. Your gifts toward the ministries of Sligo Church are greatly appreciated. Join us for Prayer Gathering on Wednesday, November 14. We are going through the book, Prayer, by Ole Hallesby. Prayer Gathering meets each Wednesday from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Sligo Sanctuary. Come and experience the blessing! Sunset: Sabbath celebration ends today at 4:58 p.m. and commences on Friday, November 16, at 4:53 p.m.
