ANNOUNCEMENTS (continued) Church Budget Target – Our profile of giving shows that we are $49,000 down on budget. If the church is to meet all its ongoing financial obligations and support its many nurture and outreach ministries, it is essential that we reach our budget target by the end of the year. We can do this by increasing our contributions to the church budget and, where we have not been in the habit of giving, start to honor God with our tithe and offerings. Increasing our contributions to the church budget by even 20% would significantly increase income and take us to our budget target. Beyond supporting our church, our offerings are our response of love to God’s blessings and goodness. The Betty Howard Center for Student Success & Faculty Development is collecting coats & canned goods from now until November 16 to benefit those in need on behalf of Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington (ACSGW). Drop off your coats & canned goods in a labeled box in the Atrium of Sligo Church.

Summary of our Beliefs
profile of giving
• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40)

I am sure that many of you are familiar with the phrase, “The Handwriting on the Wall.” This idiomatic expression has its roots in the fifth chapter of the book of Daniel where God mysteriously writes the fate of the kingdom of Babylon on the palace wall by the means of a disembodied hand. The meaning of this mysterious phrase was that the Babylonian kingdom had been “weighed in the balances and found wanting.” In other words, this was God’s way of sending them a message that because of their determined spirit to continue in their evil ways, impending judgment was now upon them. In our message today we will examine this idea of being “weighed in the balances” not in the book of Daniel, but in the book of Amos. And as we do, the question that each of us needs to ponder is, what is God writing on our walls?
