Welcome to Sligo today. When I was a young pastor just beginning in ministry, a more seasoned pastor gave me some very wise counsel that I never forgot. October 21, Saturday One evening as I accompanied him on one of his Young Adults GLOW, Memorial Chapel, 9:30 a.m. many pastoral visits, the family that we visited invited us to stay for dinner. While we were seated at the table October 22, Sunday waiting to be served, I noticed a dish that I did not particularly like. When I shared with our host my strong dislike for this Exercise Class, Office Chapel, 9:00 a.m. particular food it became painfully clear that her feelings had been October 23, Monday hurt. When the pastor and I left the home he quickly shared with me that as a pastor there would be times when I would need to partake Recovery Ministry, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. in things, whether it be food or some event, where I would need to put my personal feelings aside, especially if it did not violate Scripture October 25, Wednesday or my conscience, for the sake of the one to whom I’ve been given Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. the opportunity to witness. But what about those times when we as Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 8:00 p.m. followers of Christ are confronted with the prejudices that we harbor within our hearts that could potentially damage our witness? How are we to deal with these issues? - Charles A. Tapp

• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

Leader: The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Congregation: Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance Leader: and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. Congregation: In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. Leader: And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” Congregation: But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” All: And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.”

OUR LIFE TOGETHER
sabbath devotional
“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
– Nelson Mandela
