Welcome to Sligo today. Several years ago, along with several other pastors from the Potomac Conference, I had the opportunity to travel to Germany as a part of October 28, Saturday their reformation tour. Having been a student of history Young Adults GLOW, Memorial Chapel, 9:30 a.m. from the time of my youth and especially a student of church history since entering ministry, I must admit October 29, Sunday that I was like a kid in a candy store. For as long as I can remember, I had always wanted to visit the Wittenberg Cathedral Exercise Class, Office Chapel, 9:00 a.m. where Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to its door. Although the October 30, Monday original door upon which Luther’s 95 theses were nailed has since been replaced, just being there in the midst of all of this history Recovery Ministry, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. was more than enough for me. Today as we celebrate the 500th November 1, Wednesday anniversary of this historic event, we dare not lose sight of the major contribution it has made to Christianity. For out of this movement Prayer Gathering, Youth Room, 7:00 p.m. called the Protestant Reformation, we have the hope that our Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 8:00 p.m. salvation is not predicated upon our works but upon our faith in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Dr. David Trim will share with us today the joy of this hope in his message, “Looking Unto Jesus.” - Charles A. Tapp

• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

OUR LIFE TOGETHER

THE CHURCH AT STUDY

Blair Peace & Claire Mitchell, deacon & deaconess on duty Leading our music today are: Patrick Alston, organist Judith Pino, chorister Washington Concert Winds Jose Luis Oviedo, director Tonal Division Footnotes: Darrell Sullivan and his wife, Marquita, started attending Sligo Church earlier this year. They are in the process of having their membership transferred to Sligo. Darrell, who has a special love for Sabbath School and the Wanderers Class in particular, has been an information technology contractor for the past 35 years. He made a name for himself as a long distance cyclist and is also known as an aspiring painter. Christine Tangkere has been attending Sligo for the past few months. Her husband, Willy, was baptized on Homecoming Sabbath, 2017. Christine was a teacher in Indonesia, where she was born, and currently works in special needs in the Montgomery County school system. During her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening, cooking and volunteering. Christine is passionate about Jesus and loves attending Sligo Church. David Trim was born in Bombay, India, to missionary parents and spent his childhood in Sydney, Australia. Educated in Australia and England, he earned a PhD in history from King’s College in London. Trim was on the faculty of Newbold College in the UK for a decade, and held the Walter C. Utt Chair in History at Pacific Union College. He has also held visiting fellowships at the Huntington Library, the Folger Shakespeare Library, the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. In 2003 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. A prolific author, Trim has edited or co-edited ten books. His other publications include over 150 articles and chapters in scholarly journals, popular magazines, and books. He has served as Director of the Office of Archives, Statistics, and Research at the General Conference since 2010. David and his wife, Wendy, have been members of Sligo since 2011. Tonal Division is an acapella group comprised of four Washington Adventist University students: Giulia Bratosin, soprano, Rachael Jackson, alto, Jeffrey Wilson, tenor, and Emmanuel Fortin, bass. Tonal Division began to sing together in the university’s choirs. However in December 2016, the four decided to create their own group in pursuit of a new way of delivering music for worship. Since then, they have been invited to sing at college events, churches in the Washington D.C. area, and at various conventions of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. n e x t w e e k , h e r e a t S l i g o . . . Join the Sligo family along with the participants of the Consumed Worship Conference as our senior pastor, Charles Tapp, shares the message “Consumed, but Not Burned!” Music will be provided by Washington Adventist University Choir and Orchestra, along with the Consumed Worship Singers.
