We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity . We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen. • • • •

Welcome to Sligo today. While pastoring in Brooklyn, New York, in the late 1980s, I had the opportunity to become very familiar with the world renowned Brooklyn Tabernacle Church, or as most New Yorkers refer to it as, Brooklyn Tab. The church is well known for many reasons. It is home to the celebrated 250 voice, Grammy award-winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. It’s prayer meeting service, which meets each Tuesday evening has more in attendance than most large churches at their best weekend service. And as far as its membership is concerned, not only is their attendance in the thousands each week, but it also includes individuals from every walk of life. But what makes Brooklyn Tab stand out from most other churches is that although it began with a membership of only 20, its growth has not been the result of what many churches attribute to church growth. According to its Pastor, Jim Cymbala, in his book, Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire, their church’s success has not been the result of faddish techniques, an emphasis on crossculturalism, numbers or well-orchestrated worship music. Instead it’s the result of what happens when God’s people discover the lifechanging reality of the Holy Spirit. - Charles A. Tapp
