ANNOUNCEMENTS (continued)
welcome
Welcome to Sligo today. Have you ever wondered why, everytime the Lord’s Supper is celebrated many believers decide not to attend church? I know I have. September 24, Saturday I have even witnessed members that have shown up Young Adults GLOW, Memorial Chapel, 9:30 a.m. only to quickly make an exit once they discovered it Keough Lectureship, WAU Richards Hall, 3:30 p.m. was Communion Sabbath. Some of the reasons for this practice are: a lack of its theological significance, a feeling of September 26, Monday “unworthiness,” having unresolved issues with certain members, and feeling uncomfortable with the ordinance of the foot washing. While Regeneration Ministries, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. all of these reasons are pretty common, I believe that a lack of its theological significance is the most important reason of all. When we September 28, Wednesday as believers truly come to grips with what this service represents, I Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. believe that many who choose to stay away will gladly participate. We all acknowledge that this holy meal represents the sacrifice that Jesus (or by phone: 949.229.4400 Pin:4997774#, 7:35 p.m.) made for us on the cross. But do we understand that it is because September 29, Thursday of Christ’s death that we are no longer at odds with God, but are now at peace? Simply put, each time we take part in this service we Exercise Class, Office Chapel, 6:30 p.m. are reminded that we have been afforded the privilege to enter into communion with the Creator of the universe. - Charles A. Tapp

• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

*Litany Gerry Lopez Leader: O Jesus, our great high priest, be present with us as you were present with your disciples and make your will known to us as we gather around your table. Congregation: We do not presume to come to your table trusting in our own goodness, but in your all-embracing love and mercy. Leader: Teach us to love as we are loved by you, to forgive as you have forgiven us, and to give in sacrifice as you sacrificed yourself for us. All: You have so made us that we cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from your mouth. Give us a hunger for your Word, and in that food satisfy our daily need and make us truly the body of Christ. Sharing at the Table

sabbath devotional
“The Triune God is in the world, nearer to us than we are to ourselves, yet the world is also encompassed by his loving presence. He does have the whole world in his hands, even while he inhabits the whole world. For Christians, being saved means being caught up into this communion, indwelled by God and indwelling in him, and being opened up so that other people have room in us and we in them.” - Peter J. Leithart
