Summary of our Beliefs • The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

Welcome to Sligo! I remember as a child visiting my family down in the southern part of Mexico during our school vacation. I had fun playing with my cousins and they had fun asking me to speak English. One thing that I remember was my grandmother’s old washing machine. It had a weird apparatus protruding from the top of the machine with a handle and two rollers on it. I recall asking her what this was for and she explained that she would run the wet clothes through the rollers to squeeze the excess water from them so they would dry more quickly. Basically the clothes were run through the wringer, pressing out all the water. I believe many of us have felt like we’ve been put through the wringer - one difficulty after another, getting everything squeezed out of us. This may have caused us to ask ourselves, where is God? Why am I going through all these tough situations? Why are others not going through these things like I am? Why am I suffering alone? The thing is, God did not promise that we would not be tested or suffer through difficult times, but He promised that He would not leave us alone! - Gerry Lopez

The Church Office will be closed for the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 5. If you have an urgent matter that cannot wait until the office reopens, please call our emergency number 301-980-1009. STAND UP or SIT DOWN? – What is the role of the Seventh-day Adventist Church on issues of social justice? It’s a question that has become more prevalent following a rally on the National Mall in July where 1,000 SDA’s stood together for prayer and peace. Join the Presidents of the Allegheny East, Chesapeake and Potomac Conferences in a conversation on what the role, responsibility and response of the SDA Church should be on issues of cultural awareness, reconciliation and activism - September 10 at 6:00 p.m. here at Sligo. Volunteer Opportunity: Do you wish to be more involved with your church and have the opportunity to meet new people? If so, why not consider volunteering four hours each week at the church office? If interested, please contact Kathleen Driscoll at <kdriscoll@ sligochurch.org> or 301.270.6777, ext. 239
