• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

Welcome to Sligo! Recently, there has been a great deal of turmoil in our nation, which in many ways has done more to divide us than to bring us together. That’s why for me, this year’s Sligo Homecoming has taken on even greater significance than it had in previous years. As the community of Christ, I believe it is our God-given mission to demonstrate to the broader community that it is possible for a diverse body such as ours to do more than simply tolerate each other and actually live in harmony with one another. But this mandates that we must be willing to appreciate one another, including those things that we find different in each other. Each Sabbath as I stand behind the pulpit and look at the beautiful mosaic that is Sligo, it truly warms my heart. To see such a diverse community connecting and bonding with one another as we all unite in worship of the same God, is something to behold. I pray that we never take this precious gift for granted but cherish it for the privilege that it is. Speaking of community, as you know, our theme for this year’s Homecoming Celebration is “Created for Community.” This acknowledges the fact that our desire to live in community comes from the understanding that we were created to exist in community by a God that also exists in community. We are pleased to welcome back to Sligo as our speaker for Homecoming 2016, former senior pastor here at Sligo, Ron Halverson Jr., as he shares the message “Waking the Dead.” - Charles A. Tapp
