A Studio and s Bedsitter for an Artist Design Project 3

PROJECT SUMMARY

An artist is a creative person who spends time to express their creativity through different media. Creative people have unique characters and individual ways in which they feel comfortable in doing what they do, and in this regard, they highly value their private workspace. So often it is a private place for them to reflect, find sanctuary and carry out their creative work – sometimes novel projects of experimental nature. It not only needs to have the right atmosphere but also be practical enough to be able to carry out the Artist’s work while catering to the basic human needs of space.

In this project the students are expected to design a small free-standing building which is a studio cum Bedsitter for a creative artist at a selected site. This studio should mainly respond to both the character of the artist and the art form. However the specific features and patterns of the immediate context in which it will be built will also need to be acknowledged when the design is done. Each student is expected to select an artist known to them. It should be someone you are able to interview, talk to and go and see how their art form is created, performed or done. This is critical since you will be required to understand and analyse the artist as your client for whom you are mainly designing this precinct for and also understand how he or she carries out activities when indulging in the artistic studio work in order for the studio to complement and provide the best possible space and atmosphere for the purpose for your client. The student will also need to find a site close to your current place of residence where you are able to visit and take pictures during this fuel crisis without much travel or risk with new covid variant. The site that is selected should be not less than 10m by 15m in area since you need to fit in a 50sqm studio building in this site. Your tutors will assist in deciding the appropriateness of the sites

House Design For Architect Dimantha Walianga Design Project 4

PROJECT SUMMARY

A house is building where people live in and conduct their private lives. It is a place to dwell, and to feel at home. The architecture and expression of what a house is has changed dramatically with time, and will also change based on the owner, site, and climate. The culture of the society and social strata will also have a profound effect on how a house is arranged in terms of space.

In this project, we were expected to design a personalized house which can become a home for a selected family at a given specific site.

First and foremost, we were supposed to interview our client, and their family members (if possible) and understand the client’s background, attitudes, and requirements. We developed a design programme, or the brief based on our discussions with the client.

The project will have 3 stages: The Conceptual Design stage, Schematic Design Stage and the Final Detailed Design stage.
