Designer collections especially haute couture, is the fruition of our dreams, fantasies and every shopaholic’s desire. Clothes are not merely garments but works of art and forms of creative selfexpression. Each designer, like an artist wants to portray their work on the most beautiful canvas they can find. Who wants to use a small canvas when you can use a bigger one? The use of skinny models in the realm of fashion is backed up with the simple comment; “Skinny models just look better,” expresses the prestigious Karl Lagerfeld. The dainty sample sizes and one off pieces of art “hang better off of skinnier models.” Well whatever floats your boat Mr and Mrs Couturiers of the world, some of us ladies are big and beautiful. Many designers are beginning to wake up and smell the Frappuccino; we’re not all size 4 and the portrayal of only tiny ladies wearing the most beautiful pieces is undoubtedly a bad image to convey to younger generations. Almost one in five women are size 18+,

that’s 19% of Britain’s population. So why are we subjected to the slimest of the slim everywhere we look? Let’s go back to February 2010 when Mark Fast, the fabulous Canadian knitwear designer selected models from 12+ UK model agency, working with girls ranging from a size 12 to 16. The figure hugging garments complimented the models curves. Other people were not so supportive of this brave statement. Pretty big understatement right there, actually; the stylist and creative director of Fast’s AW10 show walked out in disgust after refusing to work with the plus size models. This kicked up a fuss, was it really that bad to use a selection of body types on the catwalk to display the diversity of Fasts’ work? You know what they say though; any publicity is good publicity. This change in our perception of beauty has been bubbling for some time. The likes of Christina Hendricks have brought fifties curves and pin-up girl style back to the fore. Amber Riley has shown you don’t have to be a size

six to make it big in LA and for once curvy girls have strong, inspirational, media role models. H&M are supportive of this curvalicious turn of events creating an innovative beachwear collection for their, ‘Big is Beautiful’ range. The face of the collection is the gorgeous Tara Lynn, who has already modeled for Bloomingdales and appeared on the cover of French Elle in March last year. With Vogue Italia launching their ‘Curvy’ site, French Elle filing their covers with some of the hottest plus size models around and many brands extended their sizing it does seem that the industry is waking up to the fact that not all women are a size eight. As for the future of the catwalk model; who knows? We’re sure moving in a more open-minded direction. Maybe you’ll see me up there one day…

Teree: I think they embodied and embraced their femininity, they were never seen looking less than immaculate. They wore outfits that accentuated their curves; it was fabulous! Their Tuesday sessions start with a beginners’ class, then an intermediate, followed by music and dancing for everyone. It’s not for the shy, but if you’re brave enough to take to the dance floor, you’ll pick up the moves really quicklyas a girl you just have to learn how to be ‘led’. Last issue was all about the big wardrobe clearout, now that you’ve hopefully made some space, well, it’s time to fill it, as lets be honest girls there is no point owning a wardrobe unless it houses beautiful things.

1.The List: Make a list of the things you NEED. If you don’t need anything you can still shop, but if there are holes in your wardrobe, you have to focus on filling those first.

2. If you are indecisive, or unconfident about shopping take a trustworthy friend who knows your style and lifestyle. Choose your shopping buddy carefully, they have to be honest and also focused on helping you! 3. Start early. It may sound crazy but so many stores now open before 9.30am! Get to the shops early to avoid the crush. Stores are the most tidy at this time, making it easier to locate the items you want. Shop assistants are far happier at the beginning of their shift and fewer people means less queuing at changing rooms. 25 34

4. Make a plan. Know the stores that you want to visit, who open and closes when and where they are located, make a sensible route plan so that you shop in an order and don’t spend the day wandering up and down the same stretch. If you have shopping plan you are far more likely to go into all the stores you wanted to visit. 5. Clothing. Wear something that is easy to get on and off. We all hate trying on clothes so make life easier for yourself. However this doesn’t mean look like your slobbing about at home. Shop assistants will respond to your appearance (that’s life) so make yourself presentable to get the best customer care. 6. Comfy shoes. Walking around all day means you need to have sensible footwear on, otherwise you will give up! 7. Underwear. Yes I’ve said it! Make sure you have a decent bra on (you know the one that ensures your bosom is where it is supposed to be) and underwear that ensures a smooth line. If you are planning to wear ‘control’ underwear with your new purchase, wear it to the shop or at least have it in your handbag so that you can really road test the garments.

8. ( Linked to 6.) Shoes. If you are planning on wearing heels with your new purchase(s) slip a pair of heels in your handbag. Again this ensures that you’re seeing the item in context and you wont have to try to imagine what it would be like. It will also help if you are planning to have trousers shortened/ hemmed in store. (this also applies to other accessories, if you generally wear leggings, a belt, a shrug or layer pieces over a tee, ensure you have these items with you for the trying on stages, you have to work your clothes!) 9. Breaks. It may sound mad but all the energy used up in shopping can cause your sugar levels to crash. Ensure you take breaks to have a coffee/snack to keep your sugar levels balanced, this will help your concentration levels and stop you making costly mistakes. 10. Play. Don’t forget to have fun! Shopping is like a big game of dressing up. You may see things that you discount at first glance but a lot of clothes lack hanger appeal. It will cost you nothing to try on and you never know, you may surprise yourself.

Should you dare . . . Stripes. For years we’ve been told that stripes add pounds but it’s more to do with the distribution of the lines than anything else. Stripes were huge this season, from Prada to Moschino everyone was lining up (literally). If your not quite there yet try vertical stripes to make a nod to this seasons trend or get yourself a stripey bag to ensure your in on the action. Alternatively if you dare to embrace the stripe there are some fabulous maxi skirts, lady like a-lines or mini crinis in stripes, as well as the classic Bretton stripe tee that can be broken up with a jacket or cardigan to just reveal a sly stripe.

I’m totally convinced I was born into the wrong era. While I love to think I’m a rock chic, I’m completely obsessed with this seasons fifties vibe. Full skirts, tucked in tees and wide waisted belts to cinch are all part of the modern day ‘twin-set and pearls’. Belted shirt dresses and cute printed frocks are all part of the fifties trend and the stores are literally filled to the brim. Full cotton skirts are perfect for hazy summer days and a leather satchel (think Mulberry) or a cute box bag will give a retro, edgy vibe to the look. Remember to keep it up to date with chunky wooden heels, wedges or quirky ankle boot so you look retro not throwback.

Every summer, just like nautical, the Safari look creeps back into our summer wardrobe. It just makes so much sense and feels so right when the sun is out! This season Hermes had an Equestrian themed catwalk but the tailored blazers and slim leg trousers reminded us of this ‘explorers’ look. Look out for khakis, browns, olive, cream, sand and white. Mixing these neutral tones will ensure your bang on trend and the subtle but strong tones ensure elegance. This look needs a fresh white shirt, plenty of tailoring and plenty of natural, wood, accessories. Don’t forget your sunglasses!

I don’t do sport, there, I’ve said it but I do love the vibe of this seasons Sports Lux look. Luckily the gym kit is an optional extra. The best examples of this trend came from futuristic fabrics and cocoon shaped macs at Jaeger and slouchy asymmetric pieces at Alexander Wang. Lacoste, which has its heritage in sportswear added a splash of colour to a more neutral palette with its eye popping, colour blocking in hot pinks and oranges. Sports Lux is not an easy one to pull off and it’s very easy to end up Sports Slob. Expensive and quality fabrics are key to securing this look. It works best when colour blocked and ensure that the proportions are correct. Team tailored peg legs with layered cotton tees and simple but bold accessories to seal the deal.

This seasons Cavalli made us squeal with excitement! So many tassels, so much texture, we didn’t know where to feast our eyes first. Look out for fringing (especially in suede and leather), woven accessories such as shoes and bags and anything with tribal embroideries. This trend is all about garments with texture and details that just go that extra mile and give the wow factor. Better yet, why not find your local haberdashery and try and customise some pieces yourself! Fringing is so easy to purchase and that way you can have a piece of your own crafty couture! It’s that time of year where magazines are full of ‘bikini body diets’ and ‘perfect swimwear solutions’. While we wont be telling you how to get an A-lister body we have scoured the shops and on-line to bring you some of the best swimwear we could find. There are bikini’s, tankini’s, one-pieces and swim-dresses; something for body shape and taste.

If you’re conscious of having a tummy check out the one pieces with ruched detailing, super flattering! Or alternatively if you’re in the market for a two-piece choose knickers/swim-briefs that are substantial enough to give some support.

I’m going to let you in on a secret, while I’m more than happy to shop for clothes till I drop, put me in front of a make up counter and quite frankly I freeze. I’ve never been good at make up, I’m convinced its my mothers fault, unlike most little girls, I didn’t spend hours watching my mum apply lipsticks or eye shadows, in fact on the occasions she did, I was more bemused to this change than enthralled. I remember the first time I wore eyeliner, I was s literally pinned to the bed by friends who forcefully applied Mac, turquoise eyeliner. That night no one failed to notice and compliment and this was to remain my weapon of choice from here on in. While most days I go out completely make up free (I quite like my face as it so happens), my make up bag is a sad story of impulse purchases, goodie bag freebies and hand-me downs from bored previous owners. It predominantly contains eyeliners in green, blue and silver hues, three concealers (two bought, one freebie), a lipgloss (free) and a mascara (yup, you guessed it, free). It’s not that I hate make up, I recently

was treated to professional make up by the AOFM and loved the job they did so much, I vowed never to wash my face again (don’t worry, I did), it’s just that quite frankly I have no idea what I’m doing. I often refer to my make up technique as a child being given a crayon, and while it works, my eye makeup is always hot, it is, predictable as I essentially draw around my eyes in various colours, dot on the concealer, occasionally brush on some blusher if I remember where I last left it and on special occasions I mascara up my top set of lashes. The make up counters feel me with dread and I’m often left feeling like a naughty school girl. When the girl at the counter asks about my brush sets (no one told me I had to have brushes…) I laugh and look to the floor and as she demonstrates another technique I will never be able to recreate I mentally tot up the amount I’m going to spend through sheer embarrassment. Honestly, I do try, I just need my make up to be idiot proof, so when the ‘Make Up for Dummies’ range comes out, come up and say hi, I’ll be the first in the queue! 50

This season embrace the power of colour with catwalk inspired looks.

Tropical shades like blue, turquoise and emerald green look fantastic on tanned, holiday skin. Start with a smoothing liquid foundation, (as before), and now build on your tanned base with a bronzing blusher, we used YSL Blush Variation in Amber. Concentrate on your lower cheeks, nose and forehead and make sure to blend evenly. For the eyes, choose a wide brim brush or use your index finger to sweep the colour over the whole eyelid and line a smaller amount on the lower lid. For maximum impact finish with a dramatic mascara, we used YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils in High Density Black.

Be inspired by the top fashion shows and try a bold lip this summer. Apply a light foundation such as YSL Teint Radiance Foundation in Sand, to even out any imperfections and to give a smooth finish. Now outline lips with a pencil, such as YSL Dessin Des Levres Lip Liner in Fuchsia to give a neat shape and to prevent the lipstick bleeding. Now use a lip brush to blend the lipstick (we used YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Provocative Pink) until you’ve built up a high pigment colour. Lastly, pat once with tissue to remove any excess.

Try the hottest look of the season with full on seventies inspired glamour. Start by prepping the skin with a tinted self-tan such as YSL Voile Eclat D’Ete in Golden Radiance. Now apply a mattifying foundation where needed. Build a tanned glow with a highlighting blusher in a bronzing shade such as YSL Touche Blush in Coral. Now sweep a gold shimmer eyeshadow all over your lids, from the corner of your eyes to just below your brow bone, and follow through to the lower lid. Layer on a darker brown or copper shade over the lid only to give your eyes depth. We used YSL Ombres Duolumieres in Caramel Tan/Burnt Brown £28.00. Finish with mascara. Prep the lips with a liner, as before. Now apply a plum or raspberry

FACE LIFT PONY For a really sleek look, gloss you’re hair into a high ponytail. Always start with a great base, your hair will need to have been blow dried straight as well as sectioned and gone over with flat irons. Start by gently backcombing the underneath section of your hair at the crown so it is not totally flat to your head. A great tip is to spray your brush with hairspray before you use it to smooth as this will beat any frizzy strands into submission. Use a good bristle brush and smooth the hair up to the crown in a ponytail. Fix into place using a clear snag free band for extra staying power then lightly spray (10 inches away from hair) with a flexible hairspray try my Hold Tight spray (£5.19). Depending on what look you want, simply wrap a section of hair around the band and fix into place so the band is hidden.

MESSY DRESSY “This look is similar to a bardot style but with a 21st century vibe – it’s not trying too hard, slightly messy and it can be rocked during the day or in the evening and even works as wedding hair. Follow my step to step instructions to create the look: Prep hair with my Poker Straight Dry Shampoo (£5.49), to achieve a matt smooth texture to the hair. Divide the middle section of the hair into 3 segments, running from about an inch behind your hairline at the forehead running back to the crown and leaving the front and sides hanging free. Take one segment at a time and backcomb tightly until you have three backcombed areas to just below the crown. The hair at the back of the head under the crown (under the last backcombed sections) should then be split in two. Divide both side sections into 4 vertical sections. Take one section at a time and hold taut at the end straight up from the head – then hold a fine tooth comb at a 45 degree angle to the hair, do not start too

high with back-combing start about an inch from the root and squeeze down towards the root. Work through each section but then spread the hair to make one mass of backcombed hair. Using a bristle brush and brush lightly from front of head and work back to smooth it out. Then take each side individually and roll towards the centre of the back of the head, it is KEY to keep sides down covering the ears. When the hair is at the back of the head, quickly pin in place using hair pins (top tip – bite the end of the hair pin so it narrows making it tighter) then take other side and roll it back up against the pinned section, then pin that section too. Smooth and tease into place using fingers. To keep in place, finish with a liberal spritzing of my Hold Tight Firm Hold Barnet Hairspray (£5.19)

FISHTAIL PLAIT Just like the classic braid, this turns out best if you pull hair back into a tight ponytail first . Top Tipâ&#x20AC;Ś make sure you brush your hair thoroughly before so that it can be easily separated with your fingers. Once you have separated the ponytail, you are going to start out by holding the 2 strands in your left hand. Then take a thin piece from the outside of the right strand and join it with the left strand. With your left hand take a thin piece from the outside of the left strand and join it with the right strand. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the braid is as long as you desire. Then finish by tying with elastic.

The spa itself is immaculate, cosy and comfortable; and the reception area is a lovely place to chill out with a smoothie or hot drink before your treatments starts. ‘The Face and Body Sensation’ began with a treatment I had never tried before, facial mapping. This involves a machine that reads several aspects of your skin health, for example: UV impact, oily areas, dehydration and signs of aging. It’s a fascinating, if slightly scary, experience to see your skin so close up, and gives your beauty therapist a great way to pick products specifically for your skin. We then moved into the treatment room, which was beautifully serene and fitted with elegant Asia-inspired décor. Another experience unique to this spa is that the treatment starts with your feet being washed and massaged with warm flannels (lovely after traipsing around London all day). Which hair conditioning treatments are the best? I use Kerastase Masque NutriThermique £26.00 once a week. It’s a brilliant hair product, you can leave it in for 1 minite or overnight and the difference is still amazing. It dramatically improves the condition of the hair, alongside boosting protection from heat. Alternatively, try, Philip Kingsley ‘Elasticizer’ £25.50 is also a fantastic product and nourishes the scalp as well as the hair. I would also recommend trying this tip- once a month: Coat the hair and scalp with Flaxseed Oil (available from most health shops), comb through and leave on overnight. In the morning shampoo as normal and dry, you won’t believe the difference.

How do I reduce cellulite? The first thing I would look at is your diet as caffeine, fizzy drinks, dairy and alcohol all contribute to cellulite. Reducing your intake of these would be a good start. The second step would be to start regular exercise, even if it’s just walking for 30 minutes a day; getting your circulation going is key to flushing out toxins. It’s great for your general health too. I would also recommend daily body brushing (Elemis Body Brush £18.50) as a brilliant way to minimise the appearance of cellulite, work your way up in circles towards the heart. Try an at-home massage every week, and really concentrate on your target areas. If you follow this plan you should see a real difference within a month.

BAD TEACHER Release date: 24th June Set to be one of the biggest comedy smashes of the summer, ‘Bad Teacher’ has been hotly anticipated by critics, not just for the film itself, but for the reported sizzling chemistry between former real-life couple Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake who are sharing the silver screen for the first time. Diaz plays foul-mouthed teacher Elizabeth, who is the anti-Christ of the perfect teacher (though possibly one of the hottest). She drinks, gets high and is a self confessed gold digger, who hates her day job and can’t wait to marry her fiancée and escape the doldrums of teaching. Things soon fall apart for her though when her fiancée breaks up with her, and she finds herself without a meal ticket. She decides to try and seduce the impossibly handsome and rich substitute teacher, played brilliantly by Justin Timberlake. Whilst doing this, she also is fighting off the affections of the irreverent gym teacher, played by Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Her antics and scheming lead her down a surprising journey of self discovery, teaching herself life lessons she thought she already knew. The cast is superb, with Timberlake in particular impressing critics, as he stands confidently alongside the comedy veterans of the screen. Segel is always a joy to watch, and overall the film is a must-see comedy, which will make everyone think that actually, that teacher you hated in school…wasn’t that bad after all.

BRIDESMAIDS Release Date: June 24th Until recently, all the major wedding inspired comedies have starred a mainly male cast (The Wedding Crashers and Made of Honour to name but two). That said it seems crazy that a ritual such as weddings, which are so centered on women has been practically untouched in comedy form! Described as “the female version of The Hangover”, Bridesmaids is a hilarious new comedy which puts the female spin on wedding preparations and what happens when the traditions get turned on their heads… Like ‘The Hangover’, this film is headed up by a relatively unknown cast – giving directors the ideal platform to showcase new comedy talent. Directing the film is Judd Apatow, best known for films such as ‘Knocked Up’ and ‘The 40year old Virgin’. Kristen Wiig, star of ‘Knocked Up’ and ‘Saturday Night Live’

is brilliant as Annie, whose life has just taken a downturn with the collapse of her business and end of her relationship. Whilst she tries to get her life back on track, her best friend (played by Maya Rudolph) announces her engagement and immediately asks Annie to be maid of honour at the wedding! What follows is Annie’s comical struggle to play the perfect bridesmaid, bluffing her way through the pre-marital preparations, all the while locking horns with rival bridesmaid Rose Byrne. The film has a lot of laugh out loud moments, as female taboos are broken and the image of the perfect bridesmaid is blown to pieces. The tagline of the film says “Chick flicks don’t have to suck” and we have to agree, this one is definitely one for the girls and the boys!

Finally the summer is here. You never know how long it will last in England so here are a few recipes to make the most of what the season has to offer. Slow roast lamb, fantastic asparagus and with Wimbledon just round the corner a couple of strawberry ideas, including a nice summer cocktail.

SIMPLE SLOW ROAST LAMB SHOULDER The new season English lamb is now here and is the best in the world. Personally my favourite cuts of meat tend to be the cheaper cuts that need long, slow cooking but I think yield much more flavour. Never has this been more true than in the case of lamb shoulder which can be melt in the mouth and well worth the effort. This is the easiest thing in the world to cook and can be a great centre piece for a Sunday lunch or something you throw in the oven in the morning and use for a simple dinner, like with the flatbread wraps below.

Ingredients: 1 kg Jersey royals 500g peas in the pod 500g broad beans 1 bunch of asparagus 100g butter A handful of mint leaves

Wash the potatoes and put in a pan of cold water with a tablespoon of salt. Cook until tender and dress with some of the torn mint leaves, butter and seasoning. Bring a pan of water to the boil. Preheat the oven to 140°c Take the broad beans from the pods, Brown the lamb shoulder well in a blanch them in the boiling water for casserole dish, bash the garlic cloves one minute and refresh in cold water. and add them along with the rosemary, Pop the beans from their cases and put a good sprinkle of salt and pepper and to one side. Buttered summer veg with mint. New season lamb shoulder with English summer veg and Jersey Royal potatoes (I’ve used Jersey Royals here but you could use any new potato). Asparagus, broad beans and peas are great now but if you can’t find some of them you can substitute with broccoli or snap peas.

FLATBREADS, TZATZIKI & HUMMUS If you want a really easy dinner you can buy all of these accompaniments but these recipes are a breeze if you have time. Just put everything out on the table and let people dive in and make their flatbread rolls. Flatbreads Ingredients: 500g strong white flour 1 tbsp dried yeast 1tbsp salt ½ tbsp sugar 2 tbsp olive oil 250ml lukewarm water. Dissolve the yeast with the sugar in the water. Put the flour in a large bowl with the salt. Add the olive oil and then the water. Knead the dough on a table until you have a smooth, elastic dough. Put the dough in the bowl, cover with cling film and leave it to rise. When the dough is doubled in size you can take a small ball and roll it out to about the thickness of a pitta bread on a floured surface. Don’t worry too much about the shape! Heat up your chargrill and grill the bread for a couple of minutes on each side.

Tzatziki Ingredients: ½ cumber 1 clove garlic Handful of mint leaves Salt and pepper Squeeze of lemon Cut the cucumber in half, take the seeds out with a spoon and grate coarsely. Add a good sprinkle of salt and leave for twenty minutes. Squeeze out the cucumber and add to the yoghurt. Grate in the clove of garlic, chop the mint and add along with plenty of black pepper and a squeeze of lemon. Hummus Ingredients: 400g tin of chickpeas 1 garlic clove 120ml olive oil 50 ml water Juice of 1 lemon 3 tbsp tahini Salt and pepper Drain the chickpeas and rinse. Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

LAMB LEG STEAKS WITH SKORDALIA Skordalia is a Greek classic, somewhere between a mash and an aioli. It is a very loose garlicky mash with lemon juice and lots of olive oil. You can eat it with almost anything, meat or fish and is the perfect summer barbecue side.

Marinade your lamb with a couple of garlic cloves, rosemary and a splash of olive oil. Grill the lamb and leave to rest for a few minutes.

Two lamb legs steaks on the bone 1 sprig of rosemary 1kg potatoes (King Edward, Maris Piper) 6 cloves garlic 3 lemons 300ml extra virgin olive oil Salt and pepper

Peel the potatoes, cook in boiling water and mash them. Grate in the remaining 4 cloves of garlic, add the juice of the lemons and season well. Now beat in the olive oil with a whisk until the mash is nice and loose. To Serve:Spoon the Skordalia on to a plate and top with the lamb.

To make the Skordalia:

DUCK EGG WITH ASPARAGUS, PROSCIUTTO & PARMESAN SOLDIERS 4 duck eggs 1 bunch of asparagus Butter 6 slices of good white bread 3 tablespoons of grated parmesan 6 slices of prosciutto First toast the bread on one side. Lay the slices toasted side up and butter them. Sprinkle all with the parmesan, then lay the slice prosciutto on three slices and use the remaining three to make three sandwiches.

Make sure the toasted side is inside. Dot the outside of the sandwiches with butter. Place the sandwiches between two frying pans or two trays and bake in the oven for three or four minutes. They should be pressed together firmly, putting something like another pan as a weight is a good idea. The cheese will act like glue as it melts and stick the slices of bread together. Trim the woody end from the asparagus and blanch in salted, boiling water for about one and a half minutes then reserve and keep warm. Boil the duck eggs in boiling water for four and a half minutes. To serve, put the eggs in egg cups and cut the prosciutto toasts into fingers. Serve the fingers and asparagus spears with the runny duck eggs.

This is really just a jazzed up version of boiled egg and soldiers but makes for a nice weekend breakfast treat. Duck eggs are great as the yolk is much bigger than a henâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s egg so they are lovely and rich.

ASPARAGUS, POTATO & GOATS CHEESE TARTS WITH ROCKET & BLACK OLIVE DRESSING 1 pre roll puff pastry 4 asparagus spears per person Mild goats’ cheese Baking potatoes (Maris Piper or King Edward) 1 clove of garlic Olive oil 2 sprigs of rosemary

Preheat the oven to 180°c. Put a pan of water on to boil for the asparagus. Roll the puff pastry out to about 5mm. Trim the woody end from the asparagus. Put four asparagus spears next to each other to gauge the size and cut the puff pastry into a rectangle. If you lay the asparagus on the pastry you can see how big you need to cut the

pastry. Cut it into a rectangle leaving a 1cm border on each side of where the asparagus was. Prick the pastry all over with a fork, and brush with olive oil. Sprinkle over a few rosemary leaves, thinly slice the potato and over lap the slices along the length of the pastry still leaving the border. Sprinkle with a little sea salt and bake for approximately 10 minutes. Check the underside of the pastry to make sure it is golden and cooked or your tart will be soggy! Chop the olives; as fine as you want. Add the shallot, chilli, celery, parsley and garlic. Squeeze in the lemon and trickle in the olive oil until you have a dressing that runs off the spoon. Add a good handful of salt to the water and blanch he asparagus for 1 minute and refresh in cold water. Remove the tart from the oven, lay the asparagus spears on top, season and slice some of the goat’s cheese over. Put back in the oven until the cheese has melted. Transfer the tart to a plate, garnish with a little dressed rocket and spoon some dressing around.

STRAWBERRY PAVLOVA You can make individual portions or you can make one big Pavlova for the centre of the table and all dive in. You can use any soft fruit you like really, passion fruit works really well as do raspberries or blackberries. Ingredients for outside: 4 large eggs 200g caster sugar 11/2 tsp cornflour, sifted 1 lemon Preheat the oven to 120°c. Separate the eggs and put the whites in the bowl of your mixer. Divide your sugar into three; it doesn’t have to be exact but as good as you can by eye. Put one third of the sugar with the egg whites whisk at high speed until you have firm peaks. Add another third of sugar and mix a bit slower for a few more minutes before adding the last of the sugar and a drop of lemon juice. Mix until incorporated and then gently fold in your cornflour. Use a big spoon and dollop the mix onto a lined baking tray. You can get about eight good portions from this.

Bake for about an hour. Always set your timer for less time and check it, you can always add some time on but you can’t take it back! For the filling: 250ml double cream 1 vanilla pod A few spoons of caster sugar 2 punnets of strawberries, halved For the sauce: 1 bag of frozen strawberries or some old fresh strawberries Caster sugar Split the vanilla pod and scrape out the seeds into a bowl with the cream. Add a little sugar to taste and whisk into soft peaks. Remember the Pavlova is sweet already so there is no need to add to much sugar to the cream. Now blend the strawberries with a few spoons of sugar to taste to make the sauce. In the restaurant we would then pass the sauce through a sieve so it is smooth but this is up to you. To serve just put the Pavlova on the plate. Spoon over some vanilla cream, add some cut strawberries and finally dribble over the strawberry sauce.

STRAWBERRY & MINT MARTINI WITH BLACK PEPPER

150ml gin 10ml dry vermouth 5ml grenadine 2 handfuls fresh strawberries 10 mint leaves White sugar Ground black pepper Rub the rim of the martini glass with a cut strawberryDip the rim of the glass in to a bowl of the sugar until evenly coated. Chop the strawberries, and add to a mixing glass with the mint leaves, a good twist of pepper and sugar to taste. Muddle with the end of a rolling pin. Pour the gin/vodka and vermouth in with plenty of ice and shake. Double strain it into the martini glass and garnish with a sprig of mint and a twist of black pepper.

As the name suggests, this is a place where you can create a field of physical obsession and a focused arousal centred on the lips, mouth and tongue – in the form of pure frozen yoghurt. A little, scrap that, a big indulgence but guilt free taste of summer is a Snog. It is non fat, organic yoghurt, naturally sweetened with agar nectar. But the brilliance comes in the personalised toppings, as you pick your own favourite fruits and indulgent treats to top your frozen goodness. As you enter the vibrant white and pink store, it’s easy to get over excited by the bright lights and spread of flavours presented in front of you, but the friendly staff will help you order. First pick the size of your tub and the yoghurt flavour. There is a choice of natural, chocolate, green tea and the newly introduced passionfruit. Tip - don’t be swayed by the allure of chocolate, it’s too healthy to taste like the real stuff and distracts from the tasty toppings.

As far as Japanese food in London goes, this is up there with the best. Owned by restaurant entrepreneur David Yeo, Aqua Kyoto has sister restaurants in Hong Kong and Beijing, so you can feel confident knowing that you’re going to enjoy fine contemporary Japanese, and most importantly, sashimi that is top grade. The menu is expansive, with the scallop and salmon tempura with seasame soba noodles, grilled courgette with onion ponzu and chilli miso and sashimi mori awase selection all temping. However, after a long day of Oxford Street shopping, you can’t beat the classic edamame and a bento box, which allows you to enjoy a bit of everything. Beautiful miso soup, a fine selection of sushi and sashimi, pickled vegetables and a choice of teriyaki chicken, tempura vegetables and mustard beef tenderloin – I went with the chicken and I wasn’t disappointed. If it’s a special occasion book the private dining room, which is great for a birthday celebration. But don’t forget to meet for drinks on the terrace first. If Japanese isn’t your style, pop next door to Aqua Neuva … a similar experience awaits, Spanish tapas style. Aqua Kyoto is open Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. AQUA KYOTO As the sun now shines late into the evening, we’re all looking to drink and dine in a setting where you can lap up every last ray. And if you’re looking to avoid the cramped city streets and pubs that crowd the curb, you need to look up. Aqua Kyoto, is a place where you can enjoy fine food and extravagant cocktails at roof top level, oblivious to the hustle and bustle of Regent Street below. Entering through the dark drapes at its street level entrance on Argyle Street, you wouldn’t imagine that you’re about to be given access to prime sun time on a roof top terrace, in the former Dickins and Jones department store building, but it is this mystique that allures a sophisticated crowd and gives Aqua a relaxed yet cool vibe. As you pop out of the elevator, you are welcomed by floor staff that kindly take your coat and usher you down the red carpet and through the automatic doors into what is a relaxed lunch venue or buzzing evening bar / restaurant. Head straight for the back through the darkly lit restaurant, where you can enjoy an amazing selection of Japanese influenced cocktails outside. No reservations are taken for the terrace, so it’s best to arrive at six o’clock to secure a spot and make the most of the evening sun, whilst sipping on a Rosemary & Thyme Tanqueray Gin cocktail – delicious!

‘THE WAFFLE HOUSE’, ST ALBANS Jump on a train from Kings Cross and you can be in what feels like the middle of the countryside in just half an hour. And it’s here in St Albans where you’ll find The Waffle House, located in a 16th century watermill over looking a picturesque river. With such a view, it’s essential that you get a summer seat outside, but on the cooler days, inside is just as enjoyable thanks to its rustic charm. As the name suggests, you’re coming here for waffles – although the milkshakes are amazing and they alone would get me back every weekend. The Waffle House serves traditional sweet and savoury Belgian waffles, made with organic ingredients. I’ve got a sweet tooth, so despite it being lunch time, I wanted to try the banoffee or hot Dutch apple options. However, my fellow diner convinced me to go savoury, and lucky she did as the ratatoullie

option was delicious. Who would have thought that backed vegetables would go so well with a waffle. To wash it down you of course need a beverage, and I was delighted to learn that the banana milkshake was made with real fruit, so that was my choice. Waffle prices range from between £4.00 and £8.00, depending on the topping, and you can grab a large milkshake for £3.75. Don’t be put off if you arrive to a long queue – there is a no reservations policy but the tables turn quickly and the experience is worth the wait. I suggest you have a savoury waffle for mains and a sweet one for dessert, then walk it off across the road in Verulamium Park. the bar, take it. It’s great to perch on the high bar stools and overlook the kitchen – the smell of garlic, white wine and grilled fish is mouth watering. On my last visit I enjoyed a plate of grilled prawns, a side of fried zucchini and Applebee’s mixed grilled fish platter with hand cut chips – shared with my date of course – and all washed down with a crisp glass of Prosecco. The food is light yet filling, presented simply and with a smile. On this occasion the prawns weren’t to my liking – hey I’m an Aussie, I have high expectations – but I’ll be back, next time I think I’ll be tempted by the two course deal for £18.50. COMFORT This car surprised me with its superior level of comfort. The genius soft-top design means that when you have the roof down, you avoid feeling like you’re having a Bridget Jones moment; the high windows and wind guard safely cocoon you. The essential heated seats and climate control mean you’re always cosy, and the clever acoustics allow you to chat with fellow passengers at a normal i.e.: non screaming level, as well as listen to music. The seats are made for long journeys and are so comfortable that you won’t want to get out of them, and the generous head and leg room make you feel like you are in a cruiser. The two rear seats are deceptively spacious, not your usual toddler or bag size back seats, as these can fit two tall adults easily (we tested). The suspension is just right soft when you want it to be and light and agile when you don’t.

DRIVE To describe the 2.0 TFSI model as nippy would be an understatement, it’s seriously quick when required. The great thing is this car has a split personality, it’s one half cruiser, one half raring-to-go sporty number. Driving it around town, with its stop/start technology and quiet, smooth engine was such a pleasure. Having the choice to then be able to unleash its other side is gloriously fun, especially with the roof down. The steering is on the heavier side, but is still responsive. DESIGN The A5 is stunning to look at, with its sleek curved lines and spotted headlights, it’s understated and yet eye-catching. It’s perfect for someone who wants a four seater Cabriolet with a bit of elegant flashiness. The boot size has been voted best in class, and it’s decent enough for two suitcases.

TECHNOLOGY A glance at the manual will give you an idea of the amount of technology on this car. From satellite navigation, to the stop/start engine to the automatic seatbelt feeds, you get a lot for your money. Options like neck level heating, and leather trim that doesn’t get hot in the sun, add to the comfort factor of this car. Every extra has been thought of. A thoroughly smooth and fantastic drive. SURPRISE This car is super economical, I covered over 500 miles on a tank and a half of fuel. OVERALL A superb car, from its gorgeous looks to its split personality. Another Audi triumph.
