I love Izzy’s (Ice Cream) because they give you an extra little scoop on top of the ice cream. Anna Zirkes, senior
What’s the scoop? Ice cream shops offer tasty options Racquel Fhima slpecho.com
Milkjam Creamery Venue: Milkjam Creamery does not offer parking, therefore customers may have Address 2743 Lyndale Ave. S, Minneapolis Hours Sun-Thu 12-10 p.m. Fri-Sat 12-11 p.m.
to park farther away than preferred. However, the distance is worth it. The creamery is small, with seating restricted to three or four small tables on the left side of the store facing the window. The inside of the store includes small themed decorations of ice cream that contribute to the unique environment.
Ice Cream: Milkjam is by far the most creative ice cream parlor in terms of flavors — my personal favorite being the “Jam Bun.” This ice cream consists of one donut cut in half, sandwiching a generous scoop of ice cream in between. The black ice cream scoop is called the “darkest cocoa” and blends perfectly with the flavor of the donut.
Sebastian Joe’s Venue: Sebastian Joe’s is one of the most well-known ice cream parlours in the Address 1007 W. Franklin Ave. S., Minneapolis Hours Sun-Thu 7 a.m.-11 p.m.
Twin Cities, and for good reason. The shop has one of the best sceneries and locations. Long lines usually mean a long wait, but Sebastian Joes’ employees are well trained to handle the situation. Sebastian Joe’s offers a small seating area with a cabin type feel and just three feet away outside the glass doors, including a small secluded area with seating as well.
Ice Cream: With ice cream flavors ranging from Nicollet Avenue Pothole to Pavarotti, Sebastian Joe’s provides many creative options. If customers are looking for a mellow, yet tasty flavor, the Chai ice cream is a perfect option. Sebastian Joe’s ice cream both affordable and enjoyable, making it a great option for students.
Ben & Jerry’s
Address Calhoun Commons, 3070 Excelsior Blvd., Minneapolis Hours 12-9 p.m.
Venue: Although Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is an American classic, the shop lacks creativity with its flavors. When customers first walk into the shop, the overwhelming smell of waffle batter is enough to make anticipating buyers salivate. The atmosphere is warm and calm, with friendly employees eager to serve awaiting customers. There’s not much seating at Ben & Jerry’s, which contributes to the slightly crowded feel. Parking can also be a challenge on busy days. Ice cream: For chocolate lovers, Ben & Jerry’s Brownie Batter is a safe bet. The
ice cream combines creamy chocolate with delicious brownies. The kids’ size is the perfect amount to satisfy ice cream cravings. Overall, the other available flavors lack the creativity of other shops.
Izzy’s Ice Cream Venue: The smell of waffles, malts and vanilla drifting outside Izzy’s ice cream exAddress 2743 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis Hours Sun-Thu 12-10 p.m. Fri-Sat 12-11 p.m.
udes warmth and comfort to customers. Parking is relatively easy, but requires payment for a spot near the shop. Izzy’s is often packed with customers, but employees still manage to prepare ice cream orders with speed.
Ice cream: Offering both dairy and nondairy ice cream, Izzy’s provides its customers with a broad variety of flavors, which makes this shop’s ice cream even more appealing. A unique feature of Izzy’s ice cream is that with every single and double scoop, while they include a small “Izzy” scoop, (which does make prices slightly expensive). The award-winning lemon sponge cake flavor is a popular option, but doesn’t meet its high expectations.
