LOIS GRIFFITH DECEMBER’S SILVER STAR
WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO
holiday festivities All look forward to the holidays at Mangrove Bay — always good food, fun and dance! Throughout the month, there will be local groups caroling in our hallways, special holiday shows and trips planned.
Lois Griffith was born in Baltimore, Lois G. Maryland and had one older brother named Walter. Walter was six years older than Lois. Walter joined the Navy during WWII and served on the USS Boxer stationed off the coast of Japan. Once the war was over, Walter’s family was very happy to have him home again, especially Lois who adored her older brother, and with whom she had a wonderful relationship. When Lois was about 12 years old, she went to a church dance and met Tom Griffith, who she did not know would later become her husband. She would see Tom on and off at these dances through junior high and high school. Years later, after high school, Tom and Lois were reconnected when Lois was employed at Utah Savings Bank of Baltimore and Tom was employed nearby at the county clerk’s office. They went out on a dinner date and boom, total love! By the way, Lois says Tom was a very good dancer. They married in 1956 and the dancing, laughing and fun never stopped. Lois and Tom moved to different states but finally settled in Pennsylvania for 25 years. In 1990, Tom built a house in Ocean Pines, Maryland and that is where they made a home for themselves. Tom, a chemist by trade, was an adventurous entrepreneur and traveled extensively looking for opportunities to grow his own chemical business. He started a specialty chemical company that safely treated almonds, walnuts and strawberries, and the business was a success. While Lois took care of the company’s books, they both traveled the world for both business and pleasure. Tom said that Lois was his greatest asset! While they lived in Pennsylvania, they purchased a condo in Tequesta, Fla. where they would snowbird from winters up north. Tom and Lois were married for 60 years until Tom’s unfortunate passing in 2015. They raised three children: Kay, Suzanne, and Tom, and have two grandchildren, Kendra and Tom. In 2017, Lois moved to Jonathan’s Landing in Florida to be close to her daughter, Kay and her grandkids. Two years later in 2019, Lois moved to “The Bay” where she continues to dance, laugh and have fun!
