The Advanced Supply Chain Management Best Project Awards The Center for Supply Chain Management Studies established the Best Project Award for the Advanced Supply Chain Management Certificate Program to recognize the team that presented the best project for each semester. The projects were developed using the team’s experience, utilization of the course content, SCM core concepts, and the application of supply chain management tools and techniques. The award is based on the breadth of the project’s cross functional supply chain, tangible value, implementation feasibility, and several additional attributes. The Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 Best Project Award recipients are as follows: Fall 2011 Project Title: Rounding Down Repositioning Synopsis: The project had two primary objectives 1) identifying the root cause of Roundup repositioning and 2) reducing costs and enhancing customer service Project Value: Root causes were identified and strategies developed to be implemented that would result in substantial savings for Monsanto with the added potential to improve customer service. [CSCMS note – actual financial benefits are proprietary]

Spring 2012 Project Title: Novus Freight Reduction Synopsis: The project conducted an analysis of the SC benefits of direct shipping to customers from a central production facility, rather than the current indirect shipping process. Project Value: The cost reductions ranged up to 80 percent, depending on the specific customer. [CSCMS note – actual financial benefits are proprietary.] Project Team Members:

Professional Development Workshops in August, 2012

Project Management in and the Supply Chain - August 9 &10 The two-day Supply Chain Project Management workshop will provide an introduction to the various concepts and techniques of project management. Day 1 focuses on project initiation and definition concepts and techniques that create a solid foundation for project success. Day 2 focuses on project planning and execution concepts, including techniques needed to launch, manage, control, and close out the project. Specific areas to be covered are: The need for project management Four phases of a project Project definition Stakeholder analysis Project assumptions and constraints Risk identification, assessment, and mitigation Work Breakdown Structure Scheduling and resource planning Project tracking and reporting Project close-out and final report Participants will plan a model project of their choosing and will acquire a variety of tools to use in project planning and management. Supply Chain Management 101 – August 17, 2012 The Center offers a one day Supply Chain Management 101 program on the Saint Louis University campus. This program is exclusively designed for those who work in areas supporting supply chain activities such as finance, marketing, accounting, compliance, and legal. Past experience indicates that this program is popular for those who want a refresher on current trends in supply chain management. Topics include: Supply chain overview The impact of supply chain operations on income/financial statements An overview of supply chain optimization tools (sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, warehousing and transportation operations, product design in supply chain, etc.) For online registration, click here .

Advanced Supply Chain Management Certificate Program – August 23 & 24, 2012 This nationally recognized program starts on August 23 at the John Cook School of Business on the Saint Louis University Campus. This five module program consists of the following topics: Supply Chain Project Management (August 23 & 24, 2012) Managing Inventory for Increased Profitability (September 20 & 21) Strategic Outsourcing & Supplier relationship Management (October 25 & 26) Managing Transportation & Warehousing Operations (November 15 & 16) Risk Management and Research Project Presentation (December 13 and 14) Each module can be taken separately or all together and earn a Saint Louis University Certificate. Supply Chain Management Certificate Program – August 13, 2012 This NEW certificate program was developed to meet the critical needs and challenges related to sourcing in today’s dynamic business environment. It is an indepth program designed for procurement managers and professionals. The program starts on August 13 at the John Cook School of Business on the Saint Louis University Campus.
