The Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 18

September 9, 2018 Welcome To Saint Michael! As the summer temperatures slowly start to subside, things are heating up at Saint Michael! We’re glad you’ve chosen to worship with us today as we move further in to our yearlong “God’s Story” journey (reading the entire Bible) and seek to learn more about being disciples of Jesus. If you are visiting or in need of prayer support, please fill out a communication/prayer request card located in the backs of the pews. Saint Michael is a family and we hope you’ll consider becoming a part of it. Come back soon!

As Saint Michael begins an extended and fresh focus on the Bible this year through the God’s Story initiative, we are engaging in a six-week sermon series entitled, “Making Sense of the Bible”. This series is meant to address some of the common questions that thinking people may have about the scriptures, and provide some practical tools for going deeper. Join us at all 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 5:30 p.m. services.

GOD’S STORY: ABRAHAM In the Church One of the great opportunities we have at Saint Michael this coming program year is everyone reading through the narrative of the Bible, “God’s Story,” together. Each Sunday morning at 10 a.m., members and guests of all ages will attend an ageappropriate lesson and hear God’s plan of salvation unfold. This is a wonderful way for each of us to deepen our faith, and for families to grow together in their faith and understanding of the Bible.

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES STEPHEN MINISTRY Due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr. Kevin Gilliland will be unable to present at the Stephen Ministry meeting on Monday, September 10. SAINT MICHAEL EPISCOPAL SCHOOL SUNDAY | SEPT. 16 Join us next Sunday, September 16 at 9 a.m. in the Church for Saint Michael Episcopal School Sunday. PRAYING OUR GOODBYES | SEPT. 19 Led by The Rev. Dr. Hiltrude Nusser-Telfer, September 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Parlor. Praying our Goodbyes is a mourning and grief support ministry that addresses grief of any kind - such as a death, a job loss, a business, a home, or divorce. Utilizing readings from the book, “Praying Our Goodbyes” by Joyce Rupp, The Rev. Dr. Nusser-Telfer helps those in attendance examine their grief and recognize it. All are losses that we grieve and we must grieve in order to recognize that loss. The Rev. Dr. Nusser-Telfer tells us “that for humans to shorten or circumvent the grieving process is to invite illness and even severe depression.” RSVP and Questions: hnussertelfer@aol.com. FAITH AND GRIEF GATHERING | SEPT. 13 Join us as we continue to gather for lunch and confidential conversation on September 13 from noon to 1 p.m. Our guest speaker, Gayle Kesinger, will share her story of grief, and then stay to explore how your own faith has intersected with grief.
