The Twenty-Sixth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 28

November 18, 2018 Welcome To Saint Michael! We’re glad you’ve chosen to worship with us today as we move further in to our year-long “God’s Story” journey (reading the entire Bible) and seek to learn more about being disciples of Jesus. If you are visiting or in need of prayer support, please fill out a communication/prayer request card located in the backs of the pews. Saint Michael is a family and we hope you’ll consider becoming a part of it. Come back soon!

Advent Quiet Day W I T H H E I D I H AV E R K A M P

DEC. 1 | 9 A.M. - 12 P.M. | $10 | COKE ROOM With its themes of light and darkness, snow and cold, temptation and sin, forgiveness and hope, C.S. Lewis’ enchanting novel for children, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, is in fact both a delightful and serious Advent story for adults. You don’t have to have read the book to attend this Quiet Day, where through discussion and personal reflection we’ll talk about faith and imagination in our own lives and explore the promise of Incarnation as conceived in the novel and scripture.

GET YOUR FREE TICKETS! CALLING ALL ARTISTS YOU can help fight poverty in Dallas and beyond by donating a piece of your art to the Art Auction in the 2019 Parish Party, organized by the Women of Saint Michael. Sales from last year’s party (together with the proceeds from the Woman’s Exchange) made it possible for the Women of Saint Michael Gifts Committee to provide grants totaling $395,000 to 67 agencies in Dallas in 2018. With the gift of your talent, the 2019 party WILL make a difference again and also help us celebrate the artists in our community! So --- do you paint or water color? Or maybe do ceramics or mixed-media? Perhaps work with stone, wood or glass? Create jewelry or take photographs? Then YOU ARE AN ARTIST - let us hear from you! Take a look at what our Parish artists contributed to the 2017 auction.

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES

Advent

LESSONS AND CAROLS

Sunday, December 2 at 11 a.m. Join us in the Church as we begin the Advent season of preparing for Christmas with this beloved service of readings and music.

NIGHT IN NARNIA AND ST. NICK NITE Join CFM to kick off the Advent season with two fun nights of fellowship. We invite 4th-5th grade families to join us for Night in Narnia on November 30th from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Youth Center. Have fun exploring Narnia, meeting the characters, and getting into the spirit of Advent. Then, all are invited to join us on December 6th at 6:30 p.m. in Saint Michael Chapel for an evening prayer service and a great night filled with cheer at St. Nick Nite. Contact Regan Wallace at rwallace@saintmichael.org. ST. MARY’S GUILD BAKE TABLE | SUNDAYS IN DEC. Stop by our bake table in the south reception area between worship services on Sundays for specially wrapped treats, perfect for gift-giving or for your holiday dinner party. Let the ladies of St. Mary’s Guild do the work for you. St. Mary’s Guild Bake table treats are a double value. Don’t have time to bake for a teacher’s or neighbor’s gift, or that office party treat? On any Sunday in December, stop by the south entrance between morning services and you can find home-baked pre-wrapped sweets. Your purchase will be gifted twice, as all sales proceeds go to the Saint Mary’s Guild women’s charities.

PRAYING OUR GOODBYES | NOV. 28 Wednesday, November 28 | 10 - 11:30 a.m. | Parlor A mourning and grief support ministry that addresses grief of any kind - such as a death, a job loss, a business, a home, or divorce. Utilizing readings from the book, “Praying Our Goodbyes” by Joyce Rupp, The Rev. Dr. Nusser-Telfer, helps those in attendance examine their grief and recognize it. All are losses that we grieve and we must grieve in order to recognize that loss. The Rev. Dr. Nusser-Telfer tells us “that for humans to shorten or circumvent the grieving process is to invite illness and even severe depression.” RSVP and questions: hnussertelfer@aol.com. JOIN OUR USHERS Want to play a role in our worship service? Then join the Usher Corps! The Usher Corps consists of approximately 100 men and women dedicated to providing a highquality worship experience for all. Contact Gary Wall at 214-686-6366. HONDURAS MISSION TRIP | FEB. 10-17 Leaving on February 10 and returning on February 17, this trip to Honduras promises to be engaging and Spirit-filled. We will continue our ministry of providing fluoride treatments to children, reading glasses to adults, and Christian Education to children in and around Tela, Honduras. We will also work with the community to identify a construction project in one of the barrios surrounding Tela, Honduras. To register for this trip, please contact: Chris Schupp, cschupp@robertlynn.com, 214-256-7159 or George Baldwin, gbinvest@swbell.net, 214-369-1265 GOD’S STORY: CONTINUED God’s Story: Continued will not be meeting this Thursday, November 22, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Join us when it returns November 29. You can view the class schedule here: saintmichael.org/GodsStory. CHILDREN’S CHAPEL SCHEDULE Children’s Chapel follows the Sunday formation class schedule. Therefore, children’s chapel will not be offered today. Please join us when Children’s Chapel resumes next Sunday, November 25.

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES HEART OF GIVING | SUNDAYS - NOV. 25 - DEC. 23 Heart of Giving benefits four SMAA outreach ministries each year. This year’s ministries are: The Good Samaritan Fund, Project Moses, Jubilee Park and Community Center, and VNA Meals On Wheels in honor of Mary Bartholow. When one makes a tax-deductible gift in honor of another, the money goes to those ministries, and the donator receives cards they can give the honoree! This is an easy and festive way to impact others and support ministries at the same time. Contact: Paige Wilbur Paige.E.Wilbur@wellsfargo.com

I BELIEVE IN ANGELS WEEKEND | DEC. 12-15 IBIA is a holiday drive and weekend of service benefitting the children and families of Jubilee Park and Community Center. Tables will be out each Sunday through Dec. 9 to adopt an Angel, sign up to serve, and learn about the ministry. For more information, go to saintmichael.org/IBIA.

PRIME TIMERS | DEC. 6 Thursday, December 6 | 10:30 a.m. | Coke Room Jonathan Ryan, Director of Music, will speak on our favorite Christmas music, while leading us in carols of the season. And a special appearance by the Singing Angels of SMES to “Wish us a Merry Christmas!” Lunch by reservation, $10. Call Bonita at 214-728-6440. PLANNED GIVING AT SAINT MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS The mission and ministries of Saint Michael and All Angels have been built on the foresight and generosity of those who have gone before us. We have a concrete way to perpetuate their witness, their dream, and their love for our church, by making a Planned Gift that will perpetuate their and our legacy. For information about Planned Giving at Saint Michael, contact Lowell Duncan, Director of Legacy Planning at lduncan@saintmichael.org.
