GOD’S STORY In the Church One of the great opportunities we have at Saint Michael this coming program year is everyone reading through the narrative of the Bible, “God’s Story,” together. Each Sunday morning at 10 a.m., members and guests of all ages will attend an age-appropriate class and hear God’s plan of salvation unfold. This is a wonderful way for each of us to deepen our faith, and for families to grow together in their faith and understanding of the Bible.

Following Matthew 25:35-36, we as Christians are called to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, care for the sick, and have compassion for prisoners. At Saint Michael we embrace these words as we seek to develop and sustain relationships with our community based partners to serve our neighbors. Ultimately, our goal is to serve others in Christ’s name as we enhance the spiritual life of Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church parishioners.
AUSTIN STREET SHELTER Each month parishioners Saint Michael prepare and serve food for 400 people experiencing homelessness staying at the Austin Street Shelter. On the first Tuesday of each month, 12 to 15 parishioners cook and prepare a full-course homemade meatloaf dinner. On Wednesday, the food is delivered to the shelter and later that day, another 15 to 20 parishioners serve the dinner. A member of our clergy celebrates the Eucharist on those Sundays
that we serve, and all help provide for the physical and pastoral needs of The Gathering members. Ministry leaders: Lane and Corey Clark lanekclark@gmail.com. INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS WORK AMISTAD - BOLIVIA The Amistad Mission provides more than “housing” for the orphaned and abandoned children of Cochabamba, Bolivia. We provide a home and a bright future. Begun in 1989, La Villa is Amistad’s campus where more than 70 children and youth—all abandoned, abused or orphaned—receive the support they need to rebuild their confidence and find joy again. At La Villa, our children have the opportunity to grow-up in a loving, Christian home and also receive the educational, medical, spiritual and emotional support they need to over-
come their often traumatic past and become healthy children and young adults. Saint Michael and All Angels has been a supporter of the Amistad Mission for decades. We invite you to become a part of our history! To learn more contact Mark Demler, mdemler@comcast.net and Kelly Reddell, kellyreddell@att.net.

Comprised of Dallas’s finest jazz, classical, and folk musicians, the Saint Michael Contemporary music collective leads the Contemporary Services at Saint Michael. Blending an ancient faith with modern life, you can expect to hear a collection of hymns, psalms, and worship songs that capture the story of our faith and equip us with the theological tools and encouragement we need to live our Christian lives Monday through Saturday. Expect to see a variety of instruments and styles, but always striving for truth and excellence. In addition to Sunday Eucharist, they perform several concerts of original music written especially for Saint Michael throughout the year. If you are an accomplished musician and would like an audition, please contact Justin.
SAINT MICHAEL ORIGINAL CONTEMPORARY COMPOSITIONS
THE BAND
One of the goals of the Contemporary Music Department is to develop a musical language for our congregation that is our own. This is accomplished by composing original worship songs for the seasons of the church year, sermon series, setting of Psalms, and new hymn arrangements. Contact Justin for more information about songwriting.

Featuring
CHORAL COMPLINE RABBI Nancy Kasten
IMAM Omar Suleiman
REV. DR. Christopher D. Girata
Located in the Church Join the Women of Saint Michael for the second annual Interfaith Panel: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity - The Conversation Continued. This interfaith evening event is FREE to attend and open to the public! Childcare will be provided. How do we increase our understanding of and respect for all 3 major monotheistic faiths? What do we have in common and how are these characteristics important as we build a unified and respectful community in Dallas? Join three distinguished faith leaders: Rabbi Nancy Kasten, Imam Omar Suleiman, and our own Rev. Dr. Chris Girata as they discuss issues facing the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian faiths as we grow together to form a stronger interfaith community.
Sundays at 8 p.m., Church Sept. 30 - April 28 Coming from the Latin completorium, from which we have our word “complete,” this meditative service is designed as the concluding prayer of our day. Lasting a little less than 30 minutes and in our candlelit church, Compline centers around the Psalms, Scripture, and prayers taken from Scripture (including the Nunc Dimittis – the Song of Simeon). Unaccompanied music by the Compline Choir is primarily Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony. The particular liturgical aesthetic of our Compline is aimed at concluding our weekend with reflection, calm, and peace.

Saint Michael and All Angels is blessed with a rich community of groups! In the daily life of our parish these groups provide opportunities to make friends, deepen relationships, affect the local DFW area surrounding us, and minister to those in need.
BROTHERHOOD OF ST. ANDREW The Brotherhood of Saint Andrew is a missionary and evangelism ministry of the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion. In fact, it is the oldest evangelistic ministry of the Episcopal Church. The Brotherhood’s goal is to bring men and youth to Jesus Christ through the daily practice of prayer, Bible study and service. Our chapter’s service projects have included many activities over the years and currently include serving meals at The Gathering and serving as greeters at the SMAA Farmer’s Market. Our chapter has also supported Patriot Paws – Service Dogs for Disabled Veterans through our participation in their annual charity golf tournament. The National Brotherhood of St. Andrew has recently re-organized and now focuses on these seven ministry areas: Prison and Restorative Justice, Scouting, Veterans, Discipleship/Mentoring, Racial Reconciliation, Recovery, and Human Trafficking. All men at Saint Michael and All Angels are encouraged to join our chapter of The Brotherhood of Saint Andrews—we meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from
8:30 – 10 a.m. in the Coke Activities room. Come join us for Prayer, Study, Service, and lots of fellowship! If you are interested in joining, please email Barry Crossman (bcrossman2@earthlink.net) or call 214-357-4939. To learn more about the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew, please visit www.brotherhoodstandrew.org
CURSILLO Cursillo- it’s about community! Fill your heart by spending a few days away from life’s distractions and take your faith to the next level during a Cursillo weekend. Through talks given by both lay and clergy, small group discussions, worship, and the sacraments, participants come away with the tools to help them lead a more Christ-centered life. After your weekend retreat, you will connect with people regularly through small groups to deepen your role as a disciple. Come and See! Interested in visiting a men’s or women’s small group? Groups meet regularly at or near Saint Michael’s. Contact: Joe Walker jpwalkeriii@sbcglobal.net or Britt McGannon 3britt@gmail.com.

GOOD SHEPHERDS
PRIME TIMERS
To build a sense of community within the larger geographical area of Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church by responding to immediate needs with neighbor helping neighbor.
The Prime Timers gather more mature members, generally ages 65+, although everyone is welcome! Meetings are on the first and third Thursdays of each month. In-house luncheon programs, on the first Thursday, present book reviews, performances by actors or musicians, interesting lectures from the business or arts community, or talks from favorite journalists. On the third Thursday, the ‘P.T. Cruisers’ take well-planned trips to interesting area locations. Make your reservations for each event with Bonita Frederick at 214-728-6440.
What We Do The Regional Shepherds distribute information and oversee the Neighborhood Shepherds. There are at least one or two Neighborhood Shepherds in each of the 101 areas into which the entire church membership is geographically divided. It is important for each of us to know his or her neighbors and shepherds. The Neighborhood Shepherds are the liaisons between the neighbors and the church, and coordinate any help needed in the neighborhood. How Can I Help? When you receive a call or letter from your Shepherds introducing themselves, you can help by letting your Shepherds know that you would be willing to assist in your neighborhood. Contact the Church when in need, and give us permission to let your shepherds know what is going on so they can be of assistance as well. Don’t forget to let your shepherds know if there is anything they can do to help you during the year.

Caring for the sacred vessels, vestments, bread, wine, linens, candles, torches and prayer stations in all the worship spaces is a true ministry. The 100 members are organized into teams that serve on a rotating basis every five weeks. Membership is open to anyone who is willing to be trained in the proper procedures and wishes to serve God and the Parish with dedication and faith. USHERS The Usher Corps consists of approximately 100 men and women dedicated to making all feel welcome, and to a high quality worship experience for all. The ushers are typically the first and last people that visitors see at our church services. They bring a friendly spirit and warmth to our services, and are responsible for handing out programs, assisting people in finding a seat, managing the offerings, and for the orderly movement of people to and from communion. The men and women of our Usher Corps are personable, friendly, sensitive to the needs of others, and are extraordinarily good-looking. For more information contact Gary Wall, gmwall1@prodigy.net
FINANCIAL ALL ANGELS SOCIETY / LEGACY PLANNING The All Angels Society has been established by the Saint Michael and All Angels Foundation to commemorate gifts made to the parish through bequests and other estate planning. Anyone who has remembered this church in his or her will qualifies for membership. As God’s stewards, we build on the foundation left by those who came before us. We, in turn, have the opportunity, with a bequest to Saint Michael, to sustain and enhance our parish ministries and programs for the benefit of future generations. The Foundation uses parishioner gifts made through wills, trusts, insurance policies, retirement plans, and other planned giving to advance the mission of this church. Every bequest — a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your total assets, or the residual estate — is a statement of faith and thanksgiving. Contact Lowell Duncan at lduncan@saintmichael.org for more information on the Society.
THE SAINT MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS FOUNDATION The Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is governed by a 15-member board of trustees elected by the parish, which oversees a professionally managed perpetual fund invested for capital growth and preservation. Trustees serve six-year terms, (see page 5 for a list of the current members) with five new trustees continued page 50

elected by the parish every two years. The Foundation supports the vision of SMAA, to be followers of Christ spreading God’s love in our community and in our world. With a gift to the Foundation, people who love Saint Michael and All Angels can leave an enduring legacy that perpetuates the church’s mission and ministries long after their lifetime. The principal from gifts to the Foundation is invested and never spent when directed to an endowment fund. As the endowments grow, distributions from the earnings are made to strengthen and initiate new church ministries, enhance our places of worship and fellowship, and reach into the community to help our neighbors. Grants in recent years have supported community outreach programs including the revitalization of the Jubilee Park community, Saint Michael’s Farmers Market, and the Saint Michael Presents concert series, expansion and growth of the Saint Michael Episcopal School, and creation of the Nave and Courtyard Columbarium on the church’s southwest campus, to mention a few. As a matter of church policy, all bequests to the church accrue to the Foundation. Gifts to the Foundation are welcome throughout the year and are subject to the review and acceptance policies of the Foundation.
