Today the Discovery Class begins exploring our church and what God is calling us to do next, Tuesday and Wednesday we cook and serve at the Austin Street Shelter, there are Bible study meetings every day during the week, and Saturday missioners leave for Tela, Honduras. There are numerous ways to get invested in Saint Michael. It really pays off. Thank you for worshiping with us today. Youth Mission Trips Information Meeting Today. Details about our youth group’s two summer mission trips will be discussed at a special information meeting this morning at 10:00 in the Youth Center. The mission trips will be to New Orleans June 18 – 24, and to the Amistad Mission in Cochabamba, Bolivia July 24 – August 1. Trip activities, costs, and sign-up deadlines will be covered. Questions? Contact Lauren at lwainwright@saintmichael.org. Discovery Class Begins Today – Learn About Our Church. Discovery, a new 5-week course for newcomers and members entering a new phase in life, starts today. It addresses, What is God calling me to do next?” by exploring the history of Christianity and the Anglican Church, Saint Michael’s unique mission in Dallas, and the “how-to” of Episcopal worship. Discovery meets at 12:15 in the Coke Activities Room and continues through February with lunch provided for $10. Distinguished Lecture: Dr. Amy-Jill Levine – February 11 – 12. Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt, will bring the second in her series of Distinguished Lectures to Saint Michael February 11 and 12 addressing “How Am I Called to be with Others?” On Saturday she will examine “When My Actions Impact Others – David and Bathsheba” and “When Others Make Demands – Jesus and the Canaanite Woman” in the Coke Activities Room beginning at 9:00. On Sunday, at 10:00 in the Parish Hall, Dr. Levine’s topic will be “When Others Define Themselves – Sarah and Hagar.” Make reservations for the Saturday lecture at www.saintmichael.org/dls.

Vestry/Convention Delegate Nominees Named The Vestry has nominated the following parishioners for election to the Vestry or as Delegates to the Diocesan Convention. The vote will be at the church’s Annual Meeting on Sunday, February 26. Children Collecting for North Dallas Shared Ministries. As part of North Dallas Shared Ministries Month our children’s Sunday School Classes (kindergarten – 5th grade) are collecting non-perishable food items. On Sunday, February 19, the Family Day of Service, the donations will be taken to the warehouse and families will stock the North Dallas Shared Ministries shelves. Information: Contact Erika Bower at ebower@saintmichael.org. Honduras Mission Trip Leaves Saturday. Nearly two dozen Saint Michael missioners will leave for the annual Mission Trip to Tela, Honduras. They will return on February 11. The group will provide fluoride treatments to area children, reading glasses to adults, conduct Christian-education classes for children in several communities surrounding Tela, and work with residents on a public construction project. Keep our missioners in your prayers. Honduras Threads Sets Information Meetings for Summer Mission. The June 25-30 Honduras Threads mission trip will be outlined at information meetings at 10:00 on February 5 in the Parlor and on February 19 in Bishop Moore Chapel. Honduras Threads works with women in village coops to create and market native pillows and tapestries. The information meetings will describe the workshops and activities to help the women develop their talents and skills. For more information contact M’Lou Bancroft at mlou@hondurasthreads.org.


Neighborhood Nights Return Starting Tonight. Neighborhood Nights, thoroughly fun evenings, are returning with the first tonight for parishioners living in the Highland Park, Turtle Creek, Oak Lawn, Uptown, or Knox/Henderson areas. Join the Rector, Chris Girata at the home of Maria and David Martin, 4005 Miramar. This casual gettogether has no agenda – other than meeting your Saint Michael neighbors. The Prayer Ministry will host Bishop George Sumner at its Thursday, February 16 meeting. The Bishop will talk about “Prayer and Evangelism…Where is the Diocese of Dallas Headed?” The meeting and dinner (for $10) will be in the Coke Activities Room beginning at 6:00. The Wine and Whiskey Pull gathering party is Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 at the home of Christine and Martin Schuepbach at 6315 Preston Parkway. Bring a bottle of your favorite wine or hooch to donate and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and conversation with your friends. The wine and whiskey gathered Thursday will be in the Wine and Whiskey Pull at the February 24 Parish Party at Brook Hollow Golf Club. Give a new meaning to your Lenten journey, see firsthand the working of the Beatitudes, join in a pilgrimage to our Amistad Mission in Cochabamba, Bolivia March 24 – April 2. Amistad, a major outreach ministry of Saint Michael, provides a safe, loving, Christian environment for Bolivian children who have been abandoned and abused. Prime Timers to Study “Mind, Body, and Wellness” on Thursday. Clinical psychologist, Dr. Andrew Clifford, will kick off the Prime Timers new program year on Thursday, February 2. Dr. Clifford works with doctors and patients to shorten hospital stays and reduce suffering and medications associated with chronic pain and illness. The Prime Timers’ meeting begins at 10:30 in the Coke Activities Room with lunch for $10. Make reservations with Mary Davis, 214-363-7761, by today. Sally Schupp Named to Fulfill Vestry Term. The Vestry has named Sally Schupp to fill the term of Matt Waller, who announced he will resign from the Vestry and as Senior Warden following the church’s Annual Meeting, Sunday, February 26. Waller last year was elected to a second Vestry term and as Senior Warden to provide continuity during the Rector search and transition. Church Bylaws call for the Vestry to appoint a successor to fill the unexpired term of members who step down. Sally will fill the remaining two years of Matt’s term. Previously she has served on the Vestry, co-chaired Stewardship with her husband, Chris, chaired the Mission Outreach Ministry and currently serves on its Leadership Team.
