February will be a big month at Saint Michael with Mission Trip information meetings, the Parish Party, Neighborhood Nights, the Annual Meeting, and Shrove Tuesday, and don’t forget about Valentine’s Day. Read more in this edition or online, and get connected. Thank you for worshiping with us today. Discovery: The Episcopal Church, Saint Michael, and You. Discovery is a 5-week course for newcomers and members, addressing “What is God calling me to do next?” It explores the history of the Anglican Church, Saint Michael’s unique mission, and the “how-to” of Episcopal worship. Discovery meets on Sundays at 12:15 in the Coke Activities Room and continues through February with lunch provided for $10. Distinguished Lecture: Dr. Amy-Jill Levine – February 11 – 12. Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt, brings the second in the series of Distinguished Lectures on February 11 and 12. On Saturday her topics are “When My Actions Impact Others – David and Bathsheba” and “When Others Make Demands – Jesus and the Canaanite Woman” in the Coke Activities Room beginning at 9:00. On Sunday, at 10:00 in the Parish Hall, Dr. Levine’s topic will be “When Others Define Themselves – Sarah and Hagar.” Make reservations for the Saturday lecture at www.saintmichael.org/dls. Bishop Sumner to Address Prayer Ministry Meeting. The Prayer Ministry hosts Bishop George Sumner at its Thursday, February 16 meeting. He will talk about “Prayer and Evangelism…Where is the Diocese of Dallas Headed?” The meeting and dinner (for $10) will be in the Coke Activities Room beginning at 6:00. See the Beatitudes at work in Bolivia during our pilgrimage to the Amistad Mission in Cochabamba, March 24 – April 2. Amistad, a major outreach ministry of Saint Michael, provides a safe, loving, Christian environment to children who have been abandoned or abused. Our children’s Sunday School Classes (kindergarten – 5th grade) are collecting nonperishable food items. On Sunday, February 19, the Family Day of Service, the donations will be taken to the warehouse and families will stock the North Dallas Shared Ministries shelves. Saint Michael youth will use their LiveWIRE meeting on Wednesday evening, February 15 to have dinner, hangout, and play games with the homeless teens at Promise House from 5:00 to 7:30. Transportation is available from the church. The Promise House Group Project Confidentiality Agreement must be completed and to the Youth Ministry Office by Tuesday, February 7. Questions? The Stars at Night – Saint Michael Parish Party – A Stellar Evening. The 2017 Parish Party, will be a star-studded evening with dancing, great food, an art auction, opportunities to purchase one-of-a-kind special event occasions, and a wine and whiskey pull of coveted vintages and spirits. It begins Friday night, February 24 at 7:00 at the Brook Hollow Golf Club. Proceeds go to the Women of Saint Michael’s Gift Committee for Dallas area charities and Episcopal Church ministries working to eliminate poverty. Tickets are available online at www.saintmichael.org/parishparty or today at Women of Saint Michael tables in the church. St. Mary’s Guild Fixes “Hail Mary” Snacks for Super Bowl Enjoyment. Stop by the St. Mary’s Guild tables today and pick up some “Hail Mary” snacks to enjoy while watching the Super Bowl. In addition to the regular sinful Sunday morning goodies, there will be extra delights for game watching. Remember, all of the Guild’s proceeds go to charities. Honduras Threads Holds Briefings on Summer Mission Trips. This summer’s Honduras Threads mission trip will be outlined at information meetings today at 10:00 in the Parlor and again on February 19 in Bishop Moore Chapel. Honduras Treads works with women in village co-ops to create and market pillows and tapestries. Acolyte Training Set for February. Training to join one of the Episcopal Church’s largest and most respected Acolyte Corps will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 in the church on February 18, and 25. Neighborhood Nights Off to Great Start – Next on February 19. Neighborhood Nights returned with a flair last week at the home of Maria and David Martin. The next Neighborhood Night is Sunday, February 19 at the home of Michelle and Stewart Thomas, 5022 Shadywood Lane for parishioners living in Greenway Parks, Devonshire, Bluffview, and Preston Hollow. Mission Outreach Opportunities Briefing February 21. Youth Bolivia Mission Trip Parent/Participant Meeting - February 13 A meeting for parents and youth participating in the trip to the Amistad Mission in Bolivia will take place on Monday evening February 13 at 6:00 in the Youth Center. The mission trip will leave July 24 and return August 1. We will discuss requirements for the trip including necessary vaccinations, a packing list, and schedules.
