Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Today is the Annual Parish Meeting at 10:00. The Rector, Chris Girata, will present his vision for Saint Michael and we will elect new Vestry members, Diocesan Convention delegates, and Women of Saint Michael officers. The meeting also will include reports from the Wardens and the Treasurer. The meeting will give you a good overview of this dynamic parish. The Rev. Bob Johnston Begins Sabbatical. After 13 years as a priest, The Rev. Bob Johnston has been granted his first sabbatical. He will be on sabbatical for 90 days during the seasons of Lent and Easter to pray, refresh, and study. Bob will return in early summer to help direct implementation of new energy and programming in the 11:11 Celebration worship service. Please keep Bob in your prayers. Vocal Majority to Perform at Saint Michael Presents March 5. The internationally acclaimed men’s ensemble The Vocal Majority will perform at the Saint Michael Presents concert Sunday evening, March 5 at 7:00. The 100+ men’s chorus has performed around the world and produced more than two-dozen recordings of their diverse repertoire. Tickets to the free concert are necessary to assure adequate seating and can be obtained online at www.saintmichael.org/saintmichaelpresents or at the south lanai reception desk.

Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Lent This week we enter Lent. We begin Tuesday evening at 5:30 with a family favorite, Shrove Tuesday with pancakes flipped by the Men of Saint Michael and Louisiana-style gumbo. The following day, Ash Wednesday, there are five worship services with the Imposition of Ashes, including one at 5:30 in Saint Michael Chapel for families and young children. On Saturday, the Lenten Quiet Day Calling All Men! Help cook pancakes and gumbo retreat with Br. James on Shrove Tuesday. Sign up at www.saintmichael. Youth Serving at The Gathering Today. Saint Michael’s youth are worshipping and serving lunch today at The Gathering, the church for the homeless at Thanks Giving Square in downtown. Wednesday, March 1 is the deadline to signup for the Youth Ministry’s New Orleans mission trip this summer. The 6th – 12th grade students will spend June 18 – 24 working with Trinity Episcopal’s Loaves and Fishes program, the Second Harvest Food Bank, and Green Light New Orleans. The cost is $500. At Saint Michael and All Angels there is a dedicated group of men and women who have received specialized training to walk with you, confidentially, when life’s challenges become overwhelming. Lent Meditation Booklets Available. Lenten Mediation booklets with daily reflections written by parishioners, clergy, and staff of Saint Michael are available at several locations at the church. The meditations will be on the church website beginning Ash Wednesday, March 1. Living With Grief: Four Week Class During Lent. This four week class will explore the practical and emotional experiences that come with the loss of a loved one. The series will be led by Connie Webb, a financial planner and widow of the Rev. Jim Webb, and Fran Shelton, founder of Faith and Grief Ministries. The first class, Emotional Consequences of Loss taught by Ms. Shelton, will be Sunday, March 5 at 10:00 in the Parlor. Jubilee Park Needs Book Buddies. Book Buddies is a one-on-one reading/mentoring program for O.M. Roberts 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students having challenges with reading. The program is weekdays between 8:30 to 2:30, with a time commitment of a 30-minute session, twice a week. To volunteer contact Ovidia Amaya at oamaya@jubileecenter.org. Cooking for the Austin Street Shelter dinner has been moved to Monday this week because of Tuesday’s Shrove Tuesday Gumbo and Pancake Supper. This week the cooking will be tomorrow from 5:30 to 8:00 in the Parish Hall kitchen, refrigerated and delivered to the Shelter for Wednesday's for the meal. Holocaust Museum Director To Speak at Prime Timers Meeting. Dr. Charlotte Decoster, Director of Dallas’ Holocaust Museum will be the speaker at the Prime Timers’ luncheon Thursday, March 2. She will talk about “The Children of the Holocaust.” The meeting starts at 10:30 in the Coke Activities Room. Make lunch reservations ($10) with Mary Davis by Sunday, February 26 at 214-363-7761. Alcoholics Anonymous. Meets on the first and third Sunday of each month in the Coke Activities Room at 7:30-8:30 in the evening. The group is open to both men and women. We invite those with the responsibility of caring for a loved one to join us on the first and third Mondays of each month. Meetings are held in the Parlor, from 11:00 to 12:30. Rector Chris Girata has appointed a five-person search committee to find the church’s new organist/choirmaster. Former Senior Warden Stewart Thomas will chair the group which includes Kelley Christian, Suzanne Lipscomb, The Rev. Lisa Flores Musser, and Vestry member Chris Wiley. The committee expects to call a new organist/choirmaster this summer. James Diaz and Hyeon Jeong, choirmaster and associate, have announced they are leaving Saint Michael following Easter.
