Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. We made it through the change to Daylight Saving Time and Spring Break this past week. Now it’s time to resume our “normal” lives. Be sure to include Saint Michael as a part of your Lenten experience. Join us on Wednesday evenings for the Candlelight Communion and think on the daily Lenten meditations found online and in booklets throughout the church. Thank you for worshiping with us today. Saint Michael Blood Drive Today in ESD Library. The Spring Blood Drive, in partnership with the American Red Cross, runs from 8:00 to 1:00 in the ESD Library today. If you haven’t registered go to the Library and they’ll work you in. Students at least 16 years of age are eligible to give! East Dallas Neighborhood Nights is Tonight. Several east Dallas neighborhoods will get together this evening at 5:00 for a Neighborhood Night at the home of Chandler and Jeff Winslow, 9735 Robin Hill Circle. Parishioners living in the Lake Highlands, White Rock Lake, Lakewood, and M Streets areas are urged to come and bring a friend. The only agenda is getting to know your Saint Michael neighbors. Lenten Meditation booklets with daily reflections written by parishioners, clergy, and staff are available at several locations at the church. The meditations are also on the church website at www.saintmichael.org. Amy-Jill Levine Distinguished Lecture April 1 & 2. Vanderbilt University’s Dr. Amy-Jill Levine will conclude her Distinguished Lecture trilogy at Saint Michael on April 1 & 2 addressing “Let Us Go Forth Into the World.” Her Saturday lectures beginning at 9:00 in the Coke Activities Room will discuss “When We Leave Home: the Descents and Ascents of Joseph” and “When Worlds Collide: Joshua and Rahab.” Register for the Saturday sessions ($10) at www.saintmichael. org/dls. Dr. Levine’s Sunday April 2 Distinguished Lecture, “When the World is Next Door,” will be at 10:00 in the Saint Michael Chapel. Thank You Reception for Music Directors on April 2 A Thank You reception for music directors James Diaz and Hyeon Jeong will be Sunday, April 2 in the Garden Cloister following the 11:00 worship services. Living With Grief. Connie Webb, a financial planner and widow of The Rev. Jim Webb, discusses “The Practical Consequences of Loss” in this week’s Living With Grief seminar. The Rev. Greg Pickens will address planning a memorial service next week. The class meets today at 10:00 in the Parlor. The Forum Studies Human Trafficking in North Texas. FBI Special Agent David Klimek will address Human Trafficking in the Forum Sunday School Class this week. Calling it today’s form of slavery, agent Klimek will address “Modern Slavery is All Around Us. Next week, George Lynch, CEO of Traffick 911, will conclude the series. Two Easter Egg Hunts Planned Saturday, April 15. There will be Easter Eggs galore on Saturday April 15. Two Easter Egg hunts will be held: one at 10:00 for children in the second grade and younger on the Saint Michael Episcopal School playground, and a “Glow in the Dark” hunt at 7:30 for the 3rd – 5th graders on the ESD field. Edge Mission Trip Registration is Open. Registration is open for the April 21 – 23 Edge (4th and 5th grade) Mission Trip to the World Hunger Relief Farm near Waco. The cost is $200 per child. After April 1 the cost is $250. Register at www. saintmichael.org/children/theedge. Easter Merchandise Arrives at the Book Shop. The Book Shop is budding with signs of spring and the Easter season. There is a great selection of handmade Easter Eggs from Germany in bright colors. And, there are darling paper mache rabbits and chicks made in the Philippines from which to choose. Stop in and experience spring in the Book Shop.


An initiative to Refresh, Renew, and Revive our worship spaces this spring is gathering momentum. The goal is to have the necessary funds by Palm Sunday. A $300,000 gift from several parishioners will restore and repair the “Creation Window” in the church, while another $300,000 being raised from the congregation will enhance the church’s lighting and audio/visual capabilities, and provide new pew cushions, kneelers, hymnals, and prayer books. The Parish Hall will be reoriented for the Celebration service installing staging, lighting, audio/video systems and curtains. A brochure explaining the initiative and how to participate is available in the pews and on tables throughout the church. There’s still time to buy tickets to many of the Special Occasions events from the Parish Party. The Ladies Only Tennis Party at Brook Hollow is Friday and the Easter Cookie Decorating Class is Thursday, March 30. There are other great events available too. Go online at www.saintmichael.org and find one for you and your family. Women of Saint Michael Day-of-Service April 7. Be a part of the first Women of Saint Michael’s Day-of-Service Friday, April 7 at Jubilee Park and Community Center. From 9:00 to 12:00 the women will engage in gardening, working with children at Davids’ Place and Jeanie’s Place, conducting Senior Bingo, or decorating for the Jubilee Health Fair. Jubilee Mother-Daughter Tea to be March 25: Volunteers Needed. Women’s History Month will be celebrated at Jubilee Park’s Annual Mother-Daughter Tea at the Community Center on Saturday, March 25 from 11:30 – 2:30. Prime Timers Start Spring Gardening. At its Thursday, April 6 meeting, the Prime Timers will get a gardening lesson from author Shelley Cramm on the “Gardens of the Bible: from Eden to Gethsemane." She’ll also talk about the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The meeting begins at 10:30 in the Coke Activities Room. Silvia Casares, renown chef and author, will be at St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange Thursday, April 6 to meet customers and sign her new book, The Enchilada Queen Cookbook. Her Houston restaurant, Silvia’s Enchilada Kitchen, is on USA Today’s list of top 10 Mexican restaurants. Her co-author, Dotty Griffith, former food editor of the Dallas Morning News, will join Silvia at the book signing from 2:00 – 3:00 at the Exchange in Highland Park Village. Organist/Choirmaster Search Meeting Scheduled Next Sunday. The Organist/ Choirmaster Search Committee will hold a Listening Session next Sunday, March 26 at 10:00 in the Theater. The Rector will discuss his vision for the church’s music program, parishioners will be able to provide their input, and the committee will update its search progress. Catechesis Classes Combine During Spring Break. The Catechesis classes will be combined today. The two Level I classes that normally meet in the Power Library and the Atrium, will meet in the Atrium on the second floor near the Youth Center.
