Living With Grief Seminar Concludes Today. The Rev. Greg Pickens concludes the Sunday series “Living with Grief ” today at 10:00 in the Parlor. He will talk about planning a memorial service during a time of stress and sadness. Neighborhood Nights Moves into University Park. The Sunday evening gettogethers, Neighborhood Nights, move into University Park on April 2. Phoebe and Carl Moore are hosting the event at their home at 3713 Wentwood Drive from 5:00 to 6:30. Hunter Ruffin to Start New Episcopal Church in Fort Worth. The Rector, Chris Girata, has announced that The Rev. Hunter Ruffin has been called to start a new church in the Diocese of Fort Worth. His last Sunday at Saint Michael is May 7. “We will certainly miss his joyful presence, his infectious laughter, and, most of all, his inspired leadership of our Mission and Outreach Ministry,” Rev. Girata said. In a letter to the parish, Rev. Ruffin said, “I have accepted God’s call and now I ask your blessing as I embark on this next step of my ministry.” A celebration of his ministry will be Sunday, April 30. If you wish to contribute to a purse for Hunter, send a check to Saint Michael marked Rev. Ruffin Purse. (Read the Rector’s announcement and Rev. Ruffin’s letter at www.saintmichael.org.) Easter Flower Memorials. If you would like to remember a loved one this Easter, fill out one of the Flower Memorial envelopes enclosed in the worship bulletin with the names of those you want to honor either in Memory or Thanksgiving and return it with your check by Sunday, April 9. Flower Memorial envelopes are also available at the reception desk. Thank You Reception for Music Directors Next Sunday Join us as we honor and thank our music directors James Diaz and Hyeon Jeong for nearly 20 years of ministry. They are leaving to pursue performing and composing opportunities. We will gather in the Garden Cloister following the 11:00 worship services. Their last Sunday with us will be Easter. Bring a blanket and the entire family for a Movie Under the Stars Saturday night April 1. Watch the Disney classic “Finding Dory,” and enjoy Goff’s hamburgers, popcorn, soft drinks, and candy. Meet at the ESD Field by the west parking lot at 7:00 for dinner, the movie, and family fun. The cost, $25 per person, all goes to the Women of Saint Michael outreach efforts. Sharpen the skills of your young player at the Soccer Skills Camp next Sunday, April 2 on the ESD Lower School field. From 3:00 to 4:30 soccer professionals RJ Luevano and Cameron Brown will work with the kids to sharpen skills, and teach new techniques and strategies, giving them a head start for the spring soccer season. Edge Mission Trip Registration is Open. Registration is open for the April 21 – 23 Edge (4th and 5th grade) Mission Trip to the World Hunger Relief Farm near Waco. The cost is $200 per child. After April 1 the cost is $250. Register at www. saintmichael.org/children/theedge. Two Easter Egg Hunts Planned Saturday, April 15. There will be Easter Eggs galore on Saturday April 15. Two Easter Egg hunts will be held: one at 10:00 for children in the second grade and younger on the Saint Michael Episcopal School playground, and a “Glow in the Dark” hunt at 7:30 for the 3rd – 5th graders on the ESD field.


Amy-Jill Levine Distinguished Lecture April 1 & 2. Vanderbilt University’s Dr. AmyJill Levine will conclude her Distinguished Lecture trilogy at Saint Michael on April 1 & 2 addressing “Let Us Go Forth Into the World.” Her Saturday lectures beginning at 9:00 in the Coke Activities Room will discuss “When We Leave Home: the Descents and Ascents of Joseph” and “When Worlds Collide: Joshua and Rahab.” Register for the Saturday sessions ($10) at www.saintmichael.org/dls. Dr. Levine’s Sunday April 2 Distinguished Lecture, “When the World is Next Door,” will be at 10:00 in the Saint Michael Chapel. Project Moses Meeting Set for April 5. Project Moses, Saint Michael’s ministry to combat human trafficking, will meet Wednesday, April 5 in the Coke Activities Room beginning at 5:30. A light dinner will be served. The Dallas/Fort Worth area is a hub for human trafficking in the southern part of the United States, and our church is joining other organizations to help stop today’s slavery. Sylvia Casares, renowned chef and author, will be at St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange Thursday, April 6 to meet customers and sign her new book, The Enchilada Queen Cookbook. Her Houston restaurant, Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen, is on USA Today’s list of top 10 Mexican restaurants. Her co-author, Dotty Griffith, former food editor of the Dallas Morning News, will join Sylvia at the book signing from 2:00 – 3:00 at the Exchange in Highland Park Village. Women of Saint Michael Day-of-Service April 7. Be a part of the first Women of Saint Michael’s Day-of-Service Friday, April 7 at Jubilee Park and Community Center. From 9:00 to 12:00 the women will engage in gardening, working with children at Davids’ Place and Jeanie’s Place, conducting Senior Bingo, or decorating for the Jubilee Health Fair. At its Thursday, April 6 meeting, the Prime Timers will get a gardening lesson from author Shelley Cramm on the Gardens of the Bible: from Eden to Gethsemane. She’ll also talk about the "Hanging Gardens of Babylon." The meeting begins at 10:30 in the Coke Activities Room. The Knitting Ministry is knitting 100 scarves and hats to be given at the annual Seniors Christmas Luncheon in Jubilee Park. Knitters are needed who are willing to finish a scarf or hat a month to meet the goal. You can knit at the weekly Tuesday afternoon meeting from 1:00 to 3:00 in the Drake Room, or at home. The leader of the Faith and Grief Ministry at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, Susan McDaniel, will be the speaker at the Thursday, April 13, luncheon which begins at 12:00 in the Coke Activities Room. An initiative to Refresh, Renew, and Revive our worship spaces this spring is gathering momentum. The goal is to have the necessary funds by Palm Sunday. A $300,000 gift from several parishioners will repair the “Creation Window” in the church, while another $300,000 from the congregation will be used to enhance the church’s lighting, A/V capabilities, and provide new pew cushions, kneelers, hymnals, and prayer books. The Parish Hall will be reoriented for the Celebration service with staging, lighting, A/V systems, and curtains. A brochure explaining how to participate is available throughout the church.
