Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. It’s graduation, wedding, and, almost, vacation seasons, and the pace is beginning to pick up at Saint Michael. On June 11, the popular Faith and Literature adult series returns and our clergy will be reviewing some of their favorite books. The Refresh + Renew + Revive program to spruce up our worship spaces is underway. And, Saint Michael’s Farmers Market has bumper crops this year. Stay tuned, there’s a lot going on at Saint Michael and All Angels. Thank you for worshiping with us today. The First 10 Months – The Next 10 Years: A Vision for Saint Michael. The Rector Chris Girata will review his first 10 months at Saint Michael and look forward toward the next 10 years as he paints the vision of our church’s future in The Forum, Sunday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church. He will recount the new initiatives that have been undertaken during his first months as Rector. And, he will look toward the future as envisioned in the church's Strategic Plan. The Series “Organizing for Heaven” Concludes Today. Organizing for Heaven, the series on planning for the end of life, concludes today. The Rev. Greg Pickens and Kalita Blessing will discuss planning a memorial service at the church and the Columbarium at Saint Michael at 10:00 in the Parlor. For information about the series, contact The Rev. Greg Pickens at gpickens@saintmichael.org. Parish Nurse Sunday Facing the Summer Sun Today. Our Parish Nurses are focusing on the summer sun today. Stop by the Parish Nurse station in the South Lanai for information on skin cancers and sunscreens for your out-of-door activities. You will be able to have your blood pressure checked as well. Vacation Bible School Registration Closes May 26. Vacation Bible School is heading to Rome this year to experience St. Paul’s Underground Church. Registration is underway, but closes on Friday, May 26. Vacation Bible School is open to all children ages 4 (as of June 5) to upcoming 5th graders. Vacation Bible School Family Celebration: Save the Date. Save Thursday evening June 8 for a Family Celebration closing out this year’s Vacation Bible School. The kids will have been tracing the Apostle Paul’s underground church in Rome during the week and will celebrate their experiences with parents and friends. Games and activities from VBS will be showcased for parents. Cost is $30 per family. RSVP at check-in tables during Vacation Bible School. More information from Erika at ebower@saintmichael.org.


Refresh + Renew + Revive is Underway. If you drove by the church this week, you noticed the huge lift in front of the Bell Tower. The first project in the Refresh + Renew + Revive campaign was launched: the repair of the bricks, mortar and granite facings on the Tower. Work as begun on new pew cushions, and meetings have outlined the schedule for installing new sound, video, and lighting systems in the Church and Parish Hall. Work on the Creation Window begins in September. Former Vestry Members Dine Together Tuesday Night. On Tuesday evening parishioners who have served on the Vestry during the past 40 years will gather for dinner in the Parish Hall. The former and current Vestry members will gather to reminisce, marvel at the changes, and look to the future of our church. If you’re a former Vestry member be sure to RSVP to Kay Whelan at kayw@sjldesigngroup.com. Pentecost Sunday: 9:00 a.m. Morning Worship Services Combined. On Pentecost Sunday, June 4, at 9:00 a.m. the three worship services, Rite II, Discovery Mass and Joy Mass, will be combined in the Church. The 11:00 Rite I in the church and 11:11 Celebration in Parish Hall are unchanged. There will be a light reception in the Garden Cloister at 10:00 a.m. The 5:30 Candlelight service and Holy Communion is unchanged. Be sure to wear red. Volunteer at Fair Park’s Olympic Day Games for Kids. The Fair Park Olympic Day, June 21 – 23, is an opportunity for kids in the Jubilee Park and Fair Park neighborhoods to experience a summer day camp with Olympians and Paralympians. Volunteers are needed to serve as team leaders each day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 during the camp. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, and youth volunteers can earn up to 32 hours of community service. Passion for Parties Author at the St. Michael Woman’s Exchange. Steven Stolman, author of The Serial Entertainer’s Passion for Parties, will be at the St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange on Thursday, June 8. He will be available to sign his book between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. which includes memories, recipes, and photos from his favorite parties from New York to Palm Beach. The Exchange is located in Highland Park Village. Register Now for Fall Education for Ministry (EfM) Class. Education for Ministry, an extension course from the University of the South School of Theology, is for laypersons seeking knowledge, community, and spiritual growth. EfM requires a serious commitment of time and a consistent desire to understand scripture and theology, and to learn in the context of fellowship. The course links learning with life. Women’s Cancer Support Group is a long-term women’s cancer support system. The group meets on Mondays at 1:45 p.m. in the Parlor. Saint Michael’s Farmers Market Gets Newspaper Coverage The Saint Michael’s Farmers Market has scored a major hit with the Dallas Morning News. In an article this past week describing the many farmers markets in the area, the News said Saint Michael’s Farmers Market “is the king daddy” of All Artisan All the Time markets. “Nearly 50 artisan vendors and farmers flock to this North Dallas market,” the newspaper said. Find a complete list of vendors and their products on the Farmers Market website, www.saintmichaelsmarket.com. The market is open every Saturday morning from 8:00 – 12:00 Noon. Membership Coordinator and Assistant Director of Youth Ministry Join the Staff. Veteran church leader, Anne Schmidt, will serve as Membership Coordinator developing welcome, engagement and member retention programs. She has served in both national and local Episcopal Church roles such as the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes and organizing the national Evangelism Conference held Anne Schmidt recently in Dallas.

Goodbye Reception Scheduled for Erika Bower. A Thank You and Goodbye reception for Erika Bower, Assistant Director of Children and Family Ministry, will be in the Garden Cloister on Sunday, June 11 at 10:00 a.m. She has been a leader in our children’s ministries Erika Bower since June of 2014. Erika has accepted a position as Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at an Episcopal Church in Philadelphia.

Garland native, Chase Monson, will become the Assistant Director of Youth Ministry when he joins the staff in midJuly. He is a recent graduate of San Angelo State University and brings five years in youth ministry from Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo. Chase Monson
