At the 9:00 a.m. worship service today the Youth Mission Trip to the Amistad Mission in Bolivia is being commissioned, and we greet Chase Monson, our new Assistant Youth Director. He and Youth Director Lauren Wainwright will lead the week-long mission trip. You can follow our youth’s activities in Bolivia on our website. Greg Pickens is waxing poetic at Faith and Literature at 10:00, and the sermon series “Joy Ride – Lessons from Philippians” continues in the Celebration worship service at 11:11. Thanks for worshiping with us today. Saint Michael 101 – An Introduction to Our Church for Newcomers. Newcomers interested in joining our church should attend the Saint Michael 101 dinner on Sunday, September 24. It is the perfect opportunity to explore membership, meet clergy and Vestry members, and learn about our many ministries, opportunities for involvement, and exciting future. If you have friends or neighbors who should be members of Saint Michael, get September 24 from 6:00 – 8:00 on their calendar. Childcare will be available. Safe Church Training Scheduled Tuesday. Safe Church Training is essential to Saint Michael’s dedication to provide a safe, caring environment for every parishioner and is required for anyone working with youth or children. The training will be Tuesday, July 25 beginning at 12:00 Noon in the Coke Activities Room. Register with Kimberly at khughes@saintmichael.org. Nominations Open for Church Leadership Positions. Nominations are being excepted through Friday, August 18 for positions on the Church Vestry and Diocesan Convention delegation. The election will be held at a called Parish Meeting on Sunday, October 29. Five new Vestry members will be elected as will three delegates and alternates to serve at the fall convention. They will begin their terms in January. Nomination forms are available online at saintmichael.org or at the South Lanai Reception desk. Serve at Austin Street Shelter August 1 & 2. Each month Saint Michael cooks and serves dinner to the homeless at the Austin Street Shelter. Volunteers are needed on Tuesday, August 1 to meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall kitchen to cook the meal, and on Wednesday, August 2 to serve it at the Shelter, 2929 Hickory Street, at 5:30. Volunteer online at saintmichael.org/missionoutreach/servenow. Prayer Ministry to Meet with Canon to the Ordinary. The Rev. Canon Michael Gilton will meet with the Prayer Ministry team at its Thursday, August 17 meeting. He will discuss “Prayer Changes You.” The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Coke Activities Room. Saint Michael’s 9th through 12th grade youth leave tomorrow for a weeklong mission trip to Bolivia. They will be working at the Amistad mission and with the children of Casa Esperanza, which is supported by Saint Michael. Keep our youth and their adult leaders in your prayers. You can follow our youth’s activities online at saintmichael.org. Disciples Confirmation Class Registration Underway – Deadline August 15. Registration for the 6th grade Disciples Confirmation Class is underway and will close on August 15. The class will meet on Sunday mornings during the academic year, culminating with Confirmation in May of next year. The group’s first retreat will be August 26 and 27 at Camp All Saints with another next spring. In addition the Disciples will have the opportunity to work with a mentor and will participate in a community services project. Register online at saintmichael.org/disciples.

Sunday School Registration Opens for Children and Youth. Registration for fall’s Children and Youth Sunday Schools has started. There are ageappropriate classes for children from age 3 through the 5th grade. Our middle school students will do a DVD Bible study, Echo the Story, and high schoolers will engage in Teen Text, a Lectionary-based program that makes the Bible a vital, dynamic resource for teens. July is North Dallas Shared Ministries Month. Fill at least one grocery bag during July and bring it to the South Lanai. Proceeds go to the Women of Saint Michael Gifts Committee that supports charities and Episcopal ministries addressing hunger and poverty. Women’s Cancer Support Group is a long-term women’s cancer support system. The group meets on Mondays at 1:45 in the church parlor.
