Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on this momentous Sunday in the life of our church. Today, we worship for the first time with our new Rector, The Rev. Christopher Girata, and say thank you to The Very Rev. Doug Travis, who served as our Interim Rector for nearly a year. We are getting ready for the new school year with the Blessing-of-the-Backpacks at all of our worship services, and will gather in the Garden Cloister to celebrate our many blessings. Saint Michael Supports Louisiana Flood Relief Efforts. Saint Michael and All Angels has contributed $2,000 to the flood relief efforts through the Diocese of Louisiana. The flooding has claimed several lives and has left thousands homeless. Parishioners may contribute to the relief effort online at www.saintmichael.org or by making a contribution to Saint Michael and All Angels’ Good Samaritan Fund earmarked for 2016 Louisiana Flood Relief. Cash and check donations can be delivered or mailed to the church. Saint Michael 101 – Learn About Saint Michael Membership. Are you new to Saint Michael and thinking about joining? Do you have friends that ought to be members? Saint Michael 101 on September 18 at 6:00 is the place! It’s a lively, fun (free) dinner, where you get to know our church and what it’s all about. Sign up for yourself, or ask your friends to come. RSVP at www.saintmichael.org. Adult Confirmation Preparation Classes Begin September 28. Learn about the Episcopal Church or refresh your memory at the Adult Confirmation Preparation Classes beginning Wednesday, September 28. The course serves as preparation for confirmation into the Church and meets on Wednesday evenings through November 2 at 6:30 in the Coke Activities Room with free dinner and childcare. The Episcopal School of Dallas Lower School begins classes on our campus Wednesday and the Saint Michael Episcopal School begins on August 31. If you’re at the church during the week, be on the lookout for excited children and drive carefully. A New Era Begins – Pray for Saint Michael and All Angels. Our new Rector, The Rev. Christopher Girata, has arrived, and the next stage in our life together is beginning. As we enter this new era, we need to pray for God’s grace to lead us as we transition to an even greater future for our church. Visit the prayer station in Bishop Moore Chapel and offer your prayers for our new Rector and our church. Sign the book and write a word of thanks for Saint Michael and All Angels. Sunday School For Everyone Begins Next Week – Be Prepared for Stimulation A full schedule of Sunday School classes begins next week for adults, youth, and children. There are four adult classes ranging from the history of global Christianity, to Bible Study, to couples and marriage, and the church reaching across borders. High school and middle school youth will apply their faith and church to living in today’s world, and our elementary age children will learn Bible stories through art, music, cooking and more. Acolyte Training Scheduled for August and September. Two dates have been set for Acolyte training in August and September. Interns Start in Youth Ministry. Two college interns are bolstering our Youth Ministry team. Daniel Stanelle, an accounting major at the University of Texas at Arlington, and Patricia Hale-Siedler, a photography major at the University of North Texas, work with our teens on Sundays, Wednesday evenings, and on special outings and events.

October Amistad, Bolivia Mission Trip Sign-up Deadline Nears. The deadline for registering for the pilgrimage to the Amistad Mission in Bolivia is August 31. Saint Michael Rector Christopher Girata will lead a pilgrimage next year tracing the Journeys of St. Paul through Rome, Greece, Turkey, and Malta. The cruise, from June 5 – 18, will also visit several scenic destinations in the Mediterranean. There are information brochures at several locations throughout the church and there will be an information meeting Sunday, September 11 at 12:30 in the Coke Activities Room for those interested in participating. Jubilee Park’s Back to After School Bash Needs Volunteers and Supplies. Jubilee Park’s annual Back to After School Bash on Thursday, September 8 will get kids and their parents excited about the new school year. Saint Michael volunteers are needed to help with the activities at the Bash from 5:30 to 7:00. Healthy snack donations such as granola bars, fruit and veggie chips are needed. Do you have an inquiring and discerning heart and the courage to persevere, and a spirit to know and love God? The Enneagram is a personality assessment tool that helps us to learn more about ourselves and how we are in relationship with God and the people most important to us. The Rev. The November 2014 Saint Michael Presents concert, “Pipedreams Live” will be broadcast nationally by American Public Radio on Sunday, September 25. The concert can be heard in Dallas/Fort Worth on WRR-Classical 101 at 10:00 p.m. The Saint Michael Presents fall concert will feature Grammy Award winning "Conspirare" on December 11 for a Christmas concert. Food 4 Kids Program Begins September 1. Food 4 Kids provides a weekend food pack for a child at critical risk for hunger. $5 a week, $20 a month, $200 for the school year, or $260 a year makes sure one school child has food for the weekend.
