Here are some of this week’s activities in which you can get involved; Monday is a meeting of the Stephen Ministry open to all parishioners, on Wednesday Pastoral Care is hosting Dr. Robert Fine, on Thursday the Prayer Ministry meets, and on Saturday is the October Saint Michael’s Farmers Market. Parish Meeting Sunday, October 29. The Parish Meeting to elect new Vestry members and Delegates and Alternates to the 2018 Diocesan Convention will be held Sunday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church. The proposed new Vestry members are: John Ellerman, Jane Parish Meeting Greene, Jay Lipscomb, Kyle Moore, and Anna Paccone. The Sunday, October 29 Diocesan Delegate candidates are: Terry Demler, J.C. Snead, 10:00 a.m. and Scott Wilson. The Alternates are: Heather Lorch, Blair Church Oden, and Jack Rubarth. Following the election, Rector Chris Girata will update the Church’s strategic initiatives. Nativity Pageant Tryouts This Afternoon. Tryouts for this year’s nativity pageant continue this afternoon for 3rd-8th graders from 12:30-2:30 in Room 101. Children ages 3 – 2nd grade will be stars, animals, shepherds, and angels and will be assigned roles according to age/grade. Every child will have a part. Sign up at saintmichael. org/nativity Collecting For Hurricane Harvey Families. Saint Michael is collecting personal hygiene kits and school supplies for families impacted by Hurricane Harvey. A list of the needed items is at several locations throughout the church and online at saintmichael.org. Drop your donations in the Mission and Outreach receptacles in the North and South Lanais. Rector’s Bible Study Wednesday in Saint Michael Chapel. Wednesday’s Rector’s Bible Study will be in the Saint Michael Chapel and will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Bible Study is examining the Gospel According to Luke. Saint Michael’s fall blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross is scheduled for Sunday, October 29. It will be held in the ESD Library from 8:00 – 1:00 p.m. Go to Saintmichael.org to register for a time to donate blood. Look for the blue box in the upper right of the page and type sponsor code: saintmichael. Students at least 16 years of age are eligible to give! Compline at Canterbury House Tonight – Join Us. Saint Michael and All Angels celebrates a weekly Compline service at Canterbury House at SMU on Sunday evenings at 8:00 p.m. The choral service is led by Fr. Rich Towers, Associate for Student Ministry at SMU. Compline is the last church service of the day, providing an opportunity to quiet our minds and ask God for a peaceful rest. Join us and support Saint Michael’s new ministry at SMU. The Canterbury House is located at 3308 Daniel, just east of Hillcrest.
Final Confirmation Listening Session Scheduled for October 24. A final Listening Session to discuss recommendations to change the ages at which we confirm young students from 6th grade to 8th grade will be Tuesday, October 24 at 6:00 p.m. For information contact Eric Liles at eliles@saintmichael.org. Youth Small Group Gatherings. Middle School Girls - All girls in the 6th-8th grades are invited to join Lauren and Patricia for a Small Group, Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Youth Center Green Room. High School Boys - All high school boys are invited to join Daniel and Chase for lunch and a Bible study on Sundays. Two Mission Trips are planned for our youth next summer and registration is open. Our 6 – 12 graders will go to Anchorage, Alaska from July 18 - 25 to work with local agencies serving the homeless and hungry. Deadline to register is December 1. Our 9 – 12 graders will return to the Amistad Mission in Bolivia June 24 – July 2 to work with the children from Casa Esperanza. The sign up deadline is February 1. Registration is available at saintmichael.org/youth/mission-trips Children’s Choir Program Sets Rehearsal Schedule. Saint Michael children’s choir program is getting tuned up and if you have a child or grandchild in the 3rd – 8th grades it is time to get them involved. The choristers will prepare special music for our Advent and Christmas season. They will rehearse and have dinner together on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. There is still time to join. Mary Lessmann at its meeting Thursday, October 19 in the Coke Activities Room. She will discuss “How are Prayers and Spiritual Growth Related?” at the meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. A light dinner ($10) will be available. Dr. Robert Fine, Director of Clinical Ethics and Palliative Care at Baylor Scott and White in Dallas, will explore faith, human spirituality, and life’s meaning at a special Pastoral Care gathering on Wednesday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. There is no fee and all are invited. Difficult Parents Author To Address Open Stephen Ministry Session. Dr. Paul Chafetz, author of Loving Hard-to-Love Parents, will address an open Stephen Ministry meeting on Monday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Coke Activities Room. Dr. Chafetz provides the tools to: emotionally cope, love hard-to-love relatives, and create a healthy legacy for their children. The meeting is sponsored by Pastoral Care and the Senior Source. Meals on Wheels Needs Holiday Drivers. Meals on Wheels, which provides food to the elderly and homebound in Dallas, needs volunteer drivers for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Get Your Holiday Greenery and Support the Saint Michael Choir Program.
