Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Today we have two exceptional guests teaching during the 10:00 Sunday School hour. Dr. Eric Law, founder of Kaleidoscope Institute, teaches on “Holy Currencies” at The Forum in the Coke Activities Room, and Steve Roland, from Mind, Heart, and Soul Ministry, will address being a caregiver to loved ones with memory loss in the Steve Roland Parlor. Tonight we honor our Veterans during a special Dr. Eric Law worship service at 5:30 in the Church. Join us! I Believe in Angels Underway – Adopt an Angel. I Believe in Angels provides Christmas gifts for children and seniors living in the Jubilee Park neighborhood. Last year, Saint Michael parishioners made Christmas wishes come true for nearly 200 children and 110 seniors. Adopt an angel from tables located by the Parlor or near Saint Michael Chapel and return the gifts by Sunday, December 8. Volunteers are needed to help sort gifts on Friday, December 15 and at the family “shopping” day on Saturday, December 16. Parents of 4th and 5th grade students will meet on Sunday, December 3 to discuss changes in our Confirmation schedule for young students. The Rev. Dr. Eric Liles, Associate for Formation, will outline how changes in the ages we Confirm students will impact 4th and 5th graders. The meeting will be at 10:00 in the Youth Center. Joan Maxwell Speaking Tuesday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m. Joan Maxwell, author of Memoir of a Hospital Chaplain, will speak at Saint Michael Tuesday on “Soul Support: Being Present to Friends and Family at Life’s End.” Her passionate and poetic presentation, infused with humor, offers ways to provide hope and peace to friends and family by being present at life’s end. Her presentation, in the Coke Activities Room, begins at 1:00 p.m. For information contact Katherine Bowen at kbowen@saintmichael.org. Men of Saint Michael to BBQ This Wednesday. The Men of Saint Michael are going to the home of Katherine and Bob Penn for Barbeque, Brews, and Banter this Wednesday, November 15. The Rev. Dr. Eric Liles will outline the upcoming activities of the group, including a planned mission trip to the Corpus Christi area to aid Hurricane Harvey victims. The Barbeque starts at 6:00 p.m. at 4308 Overhill Drive and the cost is $20. RSVP at saintmichael.org/mensbbq. Jubilee Park Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon Scheduled for November 16. Love Thanksgiving? Love bringing joy to others? Then join us for the Jubilee Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon on Thursday, November 16, from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. We need cooks to make green beans, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pies. Contact Mary Bartholow at mary.bar@sbcglobal.net. Registration Open for Youth Summer Mission Trips. Two Mission Trips are planned for Saint Michael’s youth this summer and registration is open. Our 6 – 12 graders will go to Anchorage, Alaska from July 18 - 25 to work with local agencies serving the homeless and hungry. The deadline to register is December 1. Our 9 – 12 graders will return to the Amistad Mission in Bolivia June 24 – July 2 to work with the children at Casa Esperanza. The signup deadline is February 1. Register at saintmichael.org/youth/mission-trips Youth Serving at Promise House. Saint Michael youth (6th – 12th grades) will serve next Wednesday, November 15 at Promise House, a homeless shelter for teens. They will serve dinner, hang out and play games with their counterparts. The kids will meet at the church at 4:45 and return by 8:00 p.m. To participate the Youth Ministry office must have the Promise House Group Confidentiality Agreement from each student by Tuesday, November 14. Saint Michael Presents Christmas Concert December 3. “Three Tales of Christmas” by the renowned men’s choral ensemble Cantus is the Saint Michael Presents community concert on Sunday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Church. Beloved holiday stories such as A Christmas Carol, The Gift of the Magi,The Night Before Christmas, and others will be reimagined through familiar carols and new holiday classics. The Power of Prayer When You Really Need It. Learn the stories of two men whose lives were changed by tragedy and the power of prayer Thursday evening at the Prayer Ministry meeting at 6:00 in the Coke Activities Room. Seth Elliott was a college freshman when cancer struck. Roger Shackelford was told he would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange Sponsors Book Signing Tuesday. Laura Dowling, who planned Christmas celebrations at the White House during the Obama administration, will be at St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange to sign her book, A White House Christmas. She will be at The Exchange in Highland Park Village from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, sharing her experiences in creating displays ranging from flower vases of sugar to robotic versions of the First Family dogs. November is North Dallas Shared Ministries Month. Fill at least one grocery bag during November and bring it to the South Lanai. Suggested items: macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, tortillas, canned food items, saltine crackers. A more extensive list and grocery bags are available at several locations throughout the church. Financial contributions are just as valuable. Make checks payable to North Dallas Shared Ministries. Children’s Sunday School Stewardship Outreach Project. Spark and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (children age 4-3rd grade) are collecting winter clothing items that will be distributed at The Gathering, the church for the homeless at Thanks-Giving Square. Collection boxes are in each Sunday School classroom for new hats, gloves, and scarves. PT Cruisers to Tour and Lunch at Jubilee Park Thursday. Jubilee Park is the destination for the PT Cruisers Thursday, November 16. They will get a guided tour of Davids’ Place, Jeanie’s Place, the soccer and basketball courts, and end up at the Community Center where they will have lunch with the Seniors from Jubilee Park. The bus leaves the church at 9:30. Make reservations with Bonita Frederick at 214-728-6440 by today. November Saint Michael’s Farmers Market Next Saturday. Next Saturday is the November Saint Michael’s Farmers Market. Get farm fresh fall produce and all your holiday desserts and trimmings. The market opens at 8:00 a.m. in the north parking lot. Young Children Nativity Pageant Sign Up. Now is the time to register children age 3 through the 2nd grade to participate in this year’s Nativity Pageant. The children will be given roles as angels, shepherds, townspeople, sheep, and manger animals. The pageant will be Sunday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Sign up by December 1 at saintmichael.org/nativity. High School Musicians Needed for Nativity Pageant. We are looking for high school student musicians to be a part of this year’s Nativity Pageant on Sunday, December 17. Specifically, we need students who play flute, oboe, violin, viola, or guitar to accompany our children and youth. It is a great way to contribute your talents and get service hours.
