Followers of Christ, Spreading God’s Love

Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. We hope this has been a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday for you and your family as we thank God for the many blessings we receive. Today is the first Sunday of Advent and we begin preparing to celebrate the birth of the Christ child, the ultimate blessing from God. Thank you for worshiping with us today, and join us often during the holidays. Saint Michael Sponsors New “Community Tree of Remembrance.” The “Community Tree of Remembrance,” at downtown’s Thanks-Giving Square, is a new way to remember loved ones during the holidays. During December people can visit the Faith & Grief Ministries’ remembrance exhibit, write the names of loved ones on ribbons, tie them to a circle of life, and have moments of personal reflection. Our Rector, Chris Girata, will be a leader of the tree lighting ceremony at a multi-faith worship service from 6:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, December 1. Saint Michael and All Angels is a sponsor of the “Community Tree of Remembrance.” Lessons and Carols, December 4 at 11:00. The traditional service of Lessons and Carols will be celebrated at Saint Michael and All Angels next Sunday, December 4 at 11:00 in the Church. The service tells the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus in readings from Genesis, the prophetic books, and the Gospels, interspersed with Christmas Carols, hymns, and anthems by our choir, orchestra, and organ. Celebrate Shelly Vescovo’s Ministry Next Sunday, December 4. Receptions will follow the 9:00 and 11:00 worship services next Sunday, December 4 to celebrate the ministry of Shelly Vescovo. Shelly is retiring after a 37 year career as Director of Adult Formation at Saint Michael. Her ministry will be honored during the two services with the receptions following in the church Narthex. Honduras Threads Pop-Up Sale December 4. See the new designs and merchandise at the Honduras Threads Pop-up Sale next Sunday, December 4 from 8:00 to 1:00 in the Parlor. There is a full range of gifts – pillows, Christmas tree skirts, table toppers and runners – all supporting the Honduran women and their families. Heal the Hurt of the Holidays at the Advent Service of Remembrance and Light December 15. For some, the holidays are a time of hurt; over the loss of a beloved, relationships turned sour, being alone. Through prayers, music, and the lighting of candles, the Advent Liturgy of Remembrance and Light seeks to bring peace, healing, and wholeness in the midst of grief. Join us Thursday, December 15 at 6:00 in Saint Michael Chapel. A reception in the Parlor follows the service. Did you know that there are more than 1,200 families with kids under 18 that call Saint Michael “home?” Join the more than 800 families and make your pledge today!

I am thankful that our children now live here…that the recent sonogram showed no cancer…for food, flowers, and friends…for hot water and crisp fall apples.
