Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Today is the third Sunday in Advent and the children are presenting the Nativity Pageant during the 11:00 service in the Church. This afternoon at 1:00 parishioners are worshiping and serving lunch at The Gathering, the downtown church for the homeless at ThanksGiving Square. Be sure to take the card listing next Sunday’s Christmas Eve worship services that is in your worship bulletin and join us. Thank you for worshiping with us today. Today is Parish Nurse Sunday. Stop by the South Lanai where the Parish Nurse will be ready to discuss Mental health/Stress/Grief Awareness during the holidays. She will also be able to check your blood pressure. Christmas Offerings Dedicated to Outreach Ministries All of the offerings from Christmas Eve and Christmas Day worship services will be given to outreach ministries serving the hungry in Dallas, providing relief to Hurricane Harvey victims along the Texas coast, and the hungry and oppressed in the Middle East and Africa. Sixty percent of the offerings will go to the Austin Street Center, North Dallas Shared Ministries, and Meals on Wheels in Dallas; 20% will be designated for hurricane relief through Episcopal Relief and Development, and 20% will go to international relief ministries of the Archbishop of Canterbury through the Compass Rose Society. Give generously! Saint Michael and All Angels’ Holiday Hours. Saint Michael and All Angels Church will be closed following the 10:00 a.m. worship service on Christmas Day and all day on Tuesday, December 26. The church will be closed on Friday, December 29 and on Monday, January 1. There will be a full schedule of worship services on Sunday, December 31 with the exception of Joy Mass which will not meet. Saint Michael Serves at The Gathering Today. Saint Michael is worshiping and serving lunch to the homeless at The Gathering in downtown. If you can help serve join us at 1:00 p.m. at Thanks-Giving Square at Bryan and Ervay. Pastoral Care Groups’ Holiday Meeting Schedules. Care Givers Support Group and the Women’s Cancer Support Group will not meet on Monday, December 25, and Monday January 1, due to Christmas and New Year Holidays. They will resume their normal meeting schedule on January 8. The Knitting ministry will not meet on Tuesday, December 26, and Tuesday, January 2.

We love the high quality of the music, fellowship with friends, welcoming clergy and parishioners, and the physical space.The learning opportunities are also appreciable. Eric Liles will present the Apostle Thomas – the Role Model. Youth Winter Retreat Scheduled for January. The Youth Ministry’s annual winter retreat, The Pursuit of Happiness, is slated for January 12 -14 at Lakeview Camp and Retreat in Waxahachie. The youth (6th-12th grade) will spend the weekend having fun (paintball, glow in the dark dodge ball, and more) as well as searching for the source of true happiness in life. The cost is $100 and includes transportation, food, and all weekend activities. The deadline to register is January 1 at saintmichael.org/youthretreat. SMU’s Canterbury House Needs Your Connections. Roberts Elementary, our Jubilee Park neighborhood school. You can pick the time and day that best works for you, 30 to 60 minutes once a week. You will make a difference in a child’s life. Did you grow up in the Christian faith but are still searching for the right words to articulate it? Journey is a course for you! Beginning, Wednesday, January 17th, Chris Girata and Bob Johnston, will lead an exploration of the basic tenets of the Christian faith and provide the opportunity for you to ask the tough questions. The course runs for 7 weeks and concludes with a retreat on Saturday, March 3rd. Each weekly meeting will begin with dinner at 6:30 followed by a talk on the evening’s topic and time for small group discussion. Dinner and childcare are provided. Heart of Giving is a way to recognize family, friends, or business associates this Christmas. It supports Saint Michael’s Mission and Outreach Ministries: The Good Samaritan Fund; Tela, Honduras Mission trip; Amistad, Bolivia Mission trip; and the Honduras Threads Mission trip. Heart of Giving cards are available to purchase outside the Book Shop and at the South Lanai reception. Oleta Salyards Resigns Mission and Outreach Position. Citing a personal shift in priorities, Oleta Salyards has resigned as Interim Director of Mission and Outreach. Vicar Bill Murray said, “For the past three months Oleta has been a driving force in Saint Michael’s response to the hurricanes, organizing our Mission and Outreach grants, and Christmas Offerings. We will miss her leadership and passion for Saint Michael’s outreach to the community.” Mission and Outreach Chair Kelly Reddell along with Vicar Murray will oversee the ministry’s operations in the interim. Ann Mills Announces Retirement After 40 years serving in several capacities at Saint Michael and All Angels, Ann Mills, Director of Congregational Care, has announced she will retire at the end of the year. In announcing her retirement, Ann said: “I have been blessed to have met the needs of parishioners – particularly when they were at their most vulnerable or when significant changes happened in their lives…I believe it is time to cherish what has been and be open to new possibilities.” Vicar Bill Murray said, “Forty years of ministry is nothing short of stunning in today’s world…We will miss Ann’s joy and love for all things Saint Michael and her deep desire to care for all.” A reception honoring Ann and her ministry will be held Sunday, January 21 after the 11:00 services. Those wishing to contribute to a purse for Ann should send their check, marked for Ann Mills, to Saint Michael and All Angels.
