Make one of your resolutions for the New Year to get more involved at Saint Michael…it’s a resolution you do not want to break. Happy New Year! Kathleen Fischer Begins Forum Series on Family Communications January 7. What if there were a way to help our kids be more effective communicators? What are the verbal and non-verbal elements we need to pay attention to? What if there were a few things which could improve our interactions right away? Kathleen Fischer, an expert in family and adolescent relations, will initiate a series on Parenting in the Forum Sunday School, particularly focusing on family communications. The class will meet on Sundays at 10:00 in Saint Michael Chapel beginning January 7. Be a Jubilee Book Buddy Volunteer to work with a child, one-on-one, that needs your help to improve their reading skills! Be a Book Buddy at O.M. Roberts Elementary, our Jubilee Park neighborhood school. You can pick the time and day that best works for you, 30 to 60 minutes once a week. You will make a difference in a child’s life. Acolyte Training Begins in January.Training become a member of the Saint Michael Acolyte Corps will be held two Saturdays in January. Did you grow up in the Christian faith but are still searching for the right words to articulate it? Journey is a course for you! Beginning, Wednesday, January 17th, Chris Girata and Bob Johnston, will lead an exploration of the basic tenets of the Christian faith and provide the opportunity for you to ask the tough questions. The course runs for 7 weeks and concludes with a retreat on Saturday, March 3rd. Each weekly meeting will begin with dinner at 6:30 followed by a talk on the evening’s topic and time for small group discussion. Dinner and childcare are provided. If you can help join us in the Parish Hall Kitchen at 5:30 p.m. • We need people to serve dinner to the homeless Wednesday evening January 3, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Austin Street Shelter, 2929 Hickory Street. Youth Winter Retreat Scheduled for January. The Youth Ministry’s annual winter retreat, The Pursuit of Happiness, is slated for January 12 -14 at Lakeview Camp and Retreat in Waxahachie. The youth (6th-12th grade) will spend the weekend having fun (paintball, glow in the dark dodge ball, and more) as well as searching for the source of true happiness in life. The cost is $100 and includes transportation, food, and all weekend activities. The deadline to register is January 1 at saintmichael.org/ youthretreat. Mission and Outreach Volunteer Opportunities. Are you aware that there several ways to find Mission and Outreach volunteer opportunities? There is a “jobs available” column in the monthly Archangel and online at saintmichael. org/missionoutreach/serve-now. Ann Mills Retiring after 40 years of Ministry. A reception to honor Ann and her ministry will be held Sunday. January 21 following the 11:00 worship services. Those wishing to contribute to a purse for Ann, which will be presented at the reception, should send a check noted for Ann Mill’s purse, to Saint Michael and All Angels.


Mission and Outreach Distribute $145,000 in Grants. The Mission and Outreach Grants Committee has distributed $145,000 in grants to 15 charities and ministries in Dallas and around the world. All of the organizations are ministries of Saint Michael or have close associations with the church. A complete list of the recipients is online at saintmichael.org and in the January Archangel. Going Deeper into Prayer – Theme of Prayers Ministry. The Prayer Ministry will begin its Winter-Spring season – Going Deeper into Prayer – on Thursday, December 18. The Rev. Pamela Theodore will lead the first meeting exploring the “Hidden Richness inside the Book of Common Prayer – the Daily Offices." The meeting, in the Coke Activities Room, begins at 6:00 with dinner ($10). RSVP at saintmichael.org/prayerteam. Parish Nurse to Provide Nutrition Information. January 21 is Parish Nurse Sunday. Project Moses Anti-Human Trafficking Ministry Launches Meal Program. Project Moses ministry is launching a program to feed evening meals to as many as 50 survivors of human trafficking. The ministry will prepare the dinner at Saint Michael in the Parish Hall kitchen at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday evening January 9 and serve the meal the following evening beginning at 5:00 at Preston Road Church of Christ. The next monthly Project Moses meeting is Thursday, January 4 at 6:00 in the Coke Activities Room. Prime Timers Take Armchair Tour of Paul’s Missionary Journeys. The Rector, Chris Girata, will give the Prime Timers an armchair tour of last summer’s pilgrimage of St. Paul’s missionary journeys at its first meeting in the New Year, Thursday, February 1. Several parishioners joined the tour that included Rome, Athens, Corinth, Malta and several other sites. The “tour” begins at 10:30 in the Coke Activities Room followed by lunch ($10). Make reservations with Bonita Frederick at 214-728-6440 by January 28. Pastoral Care Groups’ Holiday Meeting Schedules. Care Givers Support Group and the Women’s Cancer Support Group will not meet tomorrow because of the New Year Holiday. They will resume their normal meeting schedule on January 8. SMU’s Canterbury House Needs Your Connections. Do you have connections with students or student groups at SMU? The Friends in Christ Ministry offers connection, compassion and companionship by visiting those who are missing their friends and their faith community. Participate in this satisfying ministry.
