Welcome! I’m very glad you’ve joined us for worship today. Our Welcome Team members are in the hallways today to help you with anything you need.

Today we welcome our youngest members for the annual Nativity Pageant at 11 a.m. in the church as they tell the story of Jesus’s birth. Looking ahead, I hope you’ll join us for Christmas Lessons and Carols at 4 p.m. on December 18, and plan ahead for Christmas Eve and Day with the schedule of service in this bulletin.

As we prepare to worship together, I invite you to take a moment and center yourself on God’s presence. A special evening of music and lesson readings: the Contemporary and Traditional music departments will perform selections of Epiphany hymns and original arrangements to observe the Light of the World given to all.

In this “verse anthem” setting, the vital text “Rejoice in the Lord alway, and again I say rejoice” is sung repeatedly by the full choir, in alternation with verses by soloists. This piece is often known as the “Bell Anthem”, because of the descending bass line, reminiscent of a great peal of bells.

The foregoing text of the worship service contained in this order of worship is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 1979. The Book of Common Prayer alone is of authority in the worship of the Episcopal Church. This program is provided for convenience of use on this occasion.

This piece is the final of three settings for organ of the famous Lutheran hymn, “Nun komm’ der Heiden Heiland” in Bach’s collection of Leipzig chorales. The theme is heard in long notes in the pedal while the hands play fast-moving figuration outlining the notes of the chorale.

Join us for the Feast of Epiphany, a service in which we celebrate the revelation of Jesus as the King of the Jews to the nations. The service begins in the church and concludes with the annual burning of the greens followed by hot chocolate and s’mores.

Grocery bags with the Advent calendar are available at church entrances. Please return your bag of food to the South entrance the first week of January.

GOSPEL OF JOHN BIBLE STUDY

There is no Gospel like the Gospel of John! It claims to be an eyewitness account, shares stories of Jesus found nowhere else and offers a different chronology of Jesus’ ministry This makes the reading and study of John’s Gospel unique, powerful and life-giving! This will be an in-depth, verse by verse study utilizing the lenses of the first century historical, geographical, cultural, literary, social and religious context, opening an entirely new world of understanding scripture!
