SMagazine Issue 3

Page 1

May I firstly start the issue by wishing that you have had a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. I hope that 2014 will bring you a lot of happy memories. As you might have noticed on our website and on the front cover, we’ve opted for a new start. Our new logo and branding is now live throughout our media channels, and I personally think it looks brilliant. Inside this issue, we’re going to be having an exclusive interview with TheSimSupply, we’re going to go back in time to check out the new store world Roaring Heights, and we’re also going to be looking at the best designs people have made with one room and one room only. Can I also just thank you all for the reception we’ve received from Issue 2. At the time of writing the issue has had over 1,200 views and I want to thank you very much for that. As usual, I hope you’ll enjoy reading this issue as much as I have enjoyed editing it.

White Paradise

a bedroom set by ung999

White Paradise is a bedroom set by ung999 on The Sims Resource. Inside this build you’ve got a lot of white. An awful lot of white. The way the creator coloured this room was very clever. By throwing in a few items that are paler colours like blue or green, the room looks very pleasing to the eye, and the Sim.

Berry Living Room

BY SPACESIMS

Welcome to the Berry Living Room by SpaceSims. This set has three different flavours, all of which give the room a completely different theme. The most interesting bit about this room, however, is that the room’s feel can be completely changed by only changing the colour of the furniture, and not moving or adding anything.

How and when did you start playing The Sims? I started playing way back in 2000 on the very first Sims game! The reason I started playing was actually due to my sister, she received a copy of it for her birthday, and ever since, I've been a big fan of the series. When did you start building inside the game? I can't remember exactly when, but I do remember the first building I ever shared publicly on the internet, which was back in 2005, it was a row of town houses. Ever since I first shared that creation, I've loved sharing as much of my work as I can. What’s your favourite thing about The Sims? That's easy, building. The creativity it allows for is simply awesome!

Of all the houses you’ve created which is your favourite?

If you could add one feature to the game, what would you pick?

That is a super hard question to answer, it's almost on par with asking "Of all the children you've had, which one was your favourite?". But seriously though, it is quite hard to pick. I would say one of my favourites in recent times was "Mirage", I love the clean contemporary look it has.

Not sure if this counts as a "feature", however I would love to see super large lots, at least 250x250. I know that sounds ridiculous, but imagine the things the community could create; shopping centres, parks, hotels, theme parks (with Roaring Heights), it would just be incredible.

What's the best experience you've had because of EA or The Sims? Definitely meeting other Simmers. Thanks to EA for giving me the opportunity to attend a Community Day and Simscamp in Germany, I've met some really amazing people who previously I would have simply called online acquaintances, are now great friends.

Thank you to James from TheSimSupply for letting us interview him for this issue. You can check out his YouTube channel or go and follow him on Twitter so you can know whenever he makes a new video. You can also go and check out his new official website!

Enable the cheats testingcheatsenabled true and buydebug on, then go to buydebug by selecting the ‘?’ under buy mode.

Find the Seasonal Lot Marker under the Miscellaneous section and place it somewhere on your lot. Don’t worry, you can’t see it in live mode.

Place all of your items as you’d want it to look like whilst the festival isn’t in town by simply placing things from buy mode. Don’t touch the marker yet.

Show us your festival lot designs on o

Bypass steps 1&2 by setting the lot type as Festival Grounds in edit town before you start building.

Find your marker and get the pie menu up by pressing Ctrl & Shift and clicking the marker. Select Set Season‌ and choose one. Then repeat for each season.

Now you can set a different name for your lot depending on the festival in town by selecting Set Seasonal Festival Name‌ on the pie menu.

Make sure that none of your seasonal objects overlap with the translucent objects. To get back to how you began, press Common under the menu in step 4.

This bedroom is perfect for teen Sims because it offers everything a teen could need away in their bedroom. The star of the show, however, is the cleverly created beanbag object. It can function as a living chair or a dining chair, and works well with the new table included in the set.

Empty Worlds If you want a blank canvas to build on, then an empty world is the way forward. There’s a whole host of beautiful empty worlds for you to utilize, be them big or small, city or suburbs—you’ll find something for your building style. Inside this article we’re going to be taking a look at the best empty worlds available for download.

Serenity Hills Download

Serenity Hills is a completely flat empty world ready for you to make your mark. This world has an amazing amount of space so you won’t have any trouble placing all of the EP lots, that’s for sure. This world is beautifully detailed and the possibilities are endless.

Rosewood Hills Lite Download

Rosewood Hills is a beautifully designed and laid out world that’s ready for you to build on. It’s medium sized, with a small wharf area ideal for skyscrapers, a larger town area that could also be used for skyscrapers should you so wish, and two small suburb areas to either side of the town.

Storybrook County Lite Download

Warning: This is a huge world. Aiming to completely fill it with lots is a mammoth task, but the creator of the world managed it. Don’t let yourself be intimidated by the sheer size of the world and you’ll do just fine. Make sure you download the LITE version from the download link, but the full version is great too.

Finnington Download

I’m currently building in Finnington inside my personal game. This is a perfect-sized world for seasoned builders and there’s space for most things. You have a city area to the south-west, a town area perfect for townhouses and a farming community up in the hills. There’s only one problem: there aren’t any 64x64 lots.

HUNDERDS OF STORES NATIONWIDE NEW STORE NOW OPEN IN SUNSET VALLEY

Rev

view

Welcome to Roaring Heights, the newest world released onto The Sims 3 Store. On December 12, the Store team released Roaring Heights, an Art Deco-themed city world. The world is adorned with lush greenery and foliage, and the colourful skyscrapers tower over the small beachside houses you can get to over the bridge.

The design This world was designed with a 1920s theme, and the team went all out in creating a very realistic look. Everything from the skyscrapers that are in the city to the Art Deco houses and venues on the coastline was built with precision and care. Dozens of new build/buy items were bundled with the world, from ArtDeco themed windows and doors, to columns and new furniture pieces. There’s also an abundance of new Create-A-Sim items for you to deck out your Sims in (but they’re not in these screenshots). If you’re looking for a well-designed world, this is the world you’re looking for. Verdict: 5/5 stars.

The venues In this world, the venues were of mixed quality (we’re going to talk about The Boardwalk venue later). The outdoor venues are brilliant, such as the swimming pool, which has a changing room, bar area and a large pool. However, it’s a different story for a few of the indoor venues, namely the library. Any player will know that if your Sims aren’t very well off, the library is the best place to go if you need to get some skills up. However, the library in Roaring Heights is poor. Really poor. We’re

not sure if it was a trend in the 1920s to have your libraries half empty, but it seems as if somebody just simply forgot to finish the library. That aside, though, the venues are keeping with the time period and look nice. Verdict: 3/5 stars.

Premium Content: Fixer-Upper Car The new fixer-upper car has made it’s return from The Sims 2 FreeTime. The new fixerupper car comes with both editions of Roaring Heights and is very impressive, actually! A whole host of new interactions come with the new car, such as car WooHoo, making out inside the car, and cuddling inside the car. Sims will even open the car door to get inside! It takes about 24 Sim hours to complete the car, and once that’s done you’ve got a fully functional car to drive around town in. The final product is CASt-able, and has all the functions of the original product. Verdict: 4/5 stars.

The Boardwalk Venue The Boardwalk has got to be one of the best venues the Sims 3 team has ever made. For 1,900 SimPoints on the Store, you’ll get this beautiful venue plus all of the pieces you’ll need to create your own roller coaster. You can create any type of roller coaster you like—after all, there’s no such thing as physics in The Sims 3! Venue: 5/5 stars.

Final verdict What can I say? This is an amazing world and it’s definitely worth the buy. It might seem pricy, but it’s an amazing world. EA has definitely done a great job on this world and I would recommend it to anybody. Final verdict: 5/5 stars.

Ever wondered how SMagazine happens? If not, read this anyway (we had a page to spare). It starts with the editor taking a trip to some Sims 3 CC sites (thesimsresource.com was used for every creation inside this issue). Each time he finds something, it’s into Microsoft Publisher to write an article about it. This is where everything goes down, be it the designing of the cover or the writing of the articles. He might take to Twitter to ask people what they want to see (follow us @smagazineofcl) and he then tends to find more ideas from there. Once the issue is finished, he checks everything, and then exports it into a .PDF using Microsoft Publisher. Then it’s to Issuu.com to upload the magazine, and then to literally every single social network to advertise the magazine. And, then, you get to read it...like you’re doing right now! Give yourself a pat on the back; you just made it through a 115-page magazine.
