Overcoming dream stealers, life’s roadblocks to achieving great success are your choice. Can you name one person that has not faced opposition on their road to great success? Dream stealers are the opposition that stands between you and your most significant achievements. It is the doubters, the hecklers, the failures, and the stubborn, subjective, uninformed genius that in all their brilliance surmise, that you cannot, possibly be a success. It has not happened; therefore, it will not be. A dream stealer will crash down on your dreams that could, perhaps, abort your dream. What do you do? What did the great achievers do, they overame?
• Henry Ford started his first company in 1899 with investors, but his vision was different than his investors, and they withdrew backing his company.
• A Hollywood casting director told Danny Devito that he was too short to be an actor.
• Michael Jordan cut from his the varsity basketball team to play jay-vee basketball by Coach Clifton “Pop” Herring
• Steve Jobs fired from Apple by John Sculley
• A Baltimore TV producer fired Oprah Winfrey because she was unfit for television news.
• The Grand Ole Opry told Elvis Presley that he is better off driving trucks.
• Ford Motor Company didn’t want Lee Iaccoca.
Do any of these names ring a bell? Great achievers have a story or two to tell about dream stealers that they have faced on their road to great success. Henry Ford, Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Elvis Presley, and Lee Iaccoca overcame their opposition. In some cases, it was that very opposition that propelled them into greater determination. Your great success as an entrepreneur, businesswoman or businessman, athlete, actor, engineer, musician, or whatever your dream, it is up to you to continue to pursue your greatness. Be careful that you do not allow others to define your future, destiny, or legacy.
Sincerly, Margaret

Raton, Fla – August 30, 2018 - With the continued expansion of global e-commerce, the need for trust or the ability to authenticate every transaction that is being processed through the internet is a must.
How can trust/authenticity be improved for the billions of transactions that happen every minute, globally?
Blockchain Technology. Yes. This technology is not all about cryptocurrency. Its utility goes beyond the cryptocurrency market. Business owners and decision-makers will need to know the truth and most importantly the future of blockchain. Choosing the right team is one of those make-or-break decisions that can either be the foundation of a successful business, or it’s complete undoing.
desired. Another key thing here is that the blockchain that was formed is now part of a public network. A blockchain does not have to be on a public network. It can be on a private network as well. This network has multiple nodes. Every node will retain a copy of that blockchain. To simplify this – this network should be considered as one distributed database. It is more or less a data structure, that has been established, which makes it nearly impossible to change at a later date without altering. Because the hashing algorithm of a block consists in part of a hash of the previous block, and that block has a hash of the previous block before that, this makes it difficult as the time passes to inject into some other blocks. That blockchain can be validated by anyone at any time without giving up personal information.
It is a decentralized ledger based on blockchain, which in turn, is based on line of blocks and every one of these blocks is a tree of recorded transactions.
The key thing to remember here is a decentralized ledger can be anything of value that one or more parties will need to track and/or validate. So, it is not just cryptocurrency.
When a series of blocks are pulled together, a blockchain is now formed. All information on that blockchain can be encrypted and secured if
What are the possible utilities of blockchain for businesses in general?
There is currently a significant amount of use cases in this fast-evolving space. For example, a small business will be able to receive payments for work completed through its digital wallet. Another key thing to remember here is blockchain does not mean the same thing as cryptocurrency, it is meta-level – cryptocurrencies are based on the blockchain concept; digital wallet is a trait of currency, it has nothing to do with blockchain. An even more important note, there can be currencies without the wallet capability. Doing business with partners on a network will become a more trusted endeavor, because everyone on that network will have the needed validation available. Therefore, a small business with blockchain, will be able to avoid the exposure of future fraudulent transactions.
Another way this technology is being used today is when multiple parties enter into an agreement and the instrument was processed through an e-signature platform, the parties involved will have the ability to prove the identity of the stored document. In this data structure, only the hash of the document file is stored, then anyone can compute the hash of that file again using a well-known algorithm to validate the existence of such hash in blockchain.
So, when the executed document is published to the blockchain, it can be run through a cryptographic hashing algorithm, which produces a short hash for the executed document. If any successful attempt was made to even remove a single word in the document, the hash of the document will be totally different. Therefore, eliminating any attempt for fraudulent activity.
What are the current drawbacks of blockchain?
At this juncture, the network capacity is the main
issue. The BITCOIN network can only process seven (7) transactions per second (TPS). The size limit for a block is only one megabyte (1MB). Today, the major credit card merchants can process at least 1,700 TPS. The BITCOIN community is currently working on this important issue and progresses are already being recorded where a block has grown from 1MB to 8MB. It seems that this issue will soon be resolved.deal. After all, they will be representing your brand with every customer they interact with and every word of content they create.
The blockchain technology is disruptive. It is here to stay. It may be the technology that will provide the ultimate transparency that is truly needed in the e-commerce space alone. The cost avoidance in terms of fraudulent transactions that may be generated have not yet being assessed; however, one could predict that number will be in the billions of dollars.

Let’s face it, business is easy. You sell a service or product, collect your money, and make a profit. As easy as it sounds, when you combine the complexities of law, accounting, sales and marketing, operations, human resources, purchasing, information technology, as well as research and development things get increasingly more complicated. If you’re a neophyte entrepreneur, the key is to eliminate as much risk as possible to realize an opportunity’s full potential. This article is about what an entrepreneur must do to develop a better organization and to create a firm that can withstand volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous marketplaces. Many business organizations fail because they do not execute one or more of the basic critical success factors well enough to survive. Remember, the basics are simply to sell, collect your money, and make a profit.
You may be wondering exactly where to start to get your business off the ground. Consider your unique value and current position. People possess one or more of three types of experiences that will propel an individual into business. The first is the person who has journeyman skills and who knows a trade or profession. Sufficient experience can be gained by getting an education in a professional or technical field as well as by performing on-the-job training. It certainly doesn’t hurt to have an industry standard certification under hand too. Second, a person may have managerial experience or may know the ins and outs of a trade or industry that gives him/her valuable insight that can be marketed. Third is the inventor, who has an idea that can be patented and exploited. A proof of concept can be developed while raising sufficient capital to go to market.
Maybe you have already started a business (ad) venture. You may be frustrated because your business is not where you want it to be. You may be having time management trouble because you are being pulled in several different directions throughout the day and find that there is not enough time to complete your job. Perhaps, you realize you cannot do it all by yourself. You may be banging your head against a wall and need a real breakthrough. We will present clear, concise, bleeding-edge business advice as if we are your partners – because we are. At Business Concierge, we are serial entrepreneurs who have been there, done that, and wanted more, better, faster.
Some things don’t change. Success in business means having the ability to plan, execute, and innovate so that customers get what they need and demand as well as to solve customer problems that other suppliers haven’t figured out yet. Success also means quickly finding out the underhanded things people do who do not have your best interests at heart or who have motives contrary to your company’s vision and mission. It’s not at all about how much money you make, it’s about how much you are able to keep. When practical, learning the fine points of finance, legal tax avoidance, how to double your money as quickly and safely as possible, as well as other topics are also important.
When starting a company, think about how much money you are ready to spend on your business.
What are your business goals? How do you go about achieving said goals –in your daily routine? Can your colleagues or staff identify these goals as they pertain to them? Do they want to buy into those goals? How do the overall goals support your client’s objectives? How do those goals get a client to where they want to with their business?
You have many questions to answer. These questions should be uppermost in your mind as a principal decision-maker in your business. Whether you offer professional services, merchandise, or some intellectual innovation, you should be marketing your business NON-STOP.
Marketing is how you announce your business [even industry] intentions to the world.
It puts your competition and, most importantly, your supporters on notice as to how focused your strategy truly is. “To all concerned, I am here to be a success. So let’s get down to business”.
And we all know the current Marketing Tools available to us as business owners – but be choosy and then consistent with your choice(s). The choosing has a lot to do with the target market; is that hyperlocal or not constrained by logistics or time zones.
A Realtor can use several marketing tools to advertise a new listing in a specific neighborhood; Print, Social, and Broadcast Media – simultaneously to capture that buyer.
Proven methods for achieving successful marketing results are matching your immediate business goals to your ultimate commitment to those marketing tools available. Basically, can you repeat that to achieve measurable success?
Whatever you commit to – should be straightforward and uncomplicated to scale up and out when ready.
Did a competitor leave an opening to be exploited, a new hire that’s a Marketing ninja, a budget becomes available for next-level marketing; any of these circumstances can force a decision - in a direction, you should be ready to capitalize. Start marketing before you get the business license in your hand. Once you start – don’t let up. See *list above that your competitors can use to propel their marketing strategy for success.
Every business should have a website or an online presence. But how do clients, suppliers, and even potential employees find out about you?
Take the example of CHEWY.COM. A great idea to provide cheaper items to pet owners. How will those pet owners find your website? CHEWY.COM advertised on TV., an old school strategy and it has been continuous. The point is you might have a great business model, but who knows about it to make a difference to your bottom line?
Learn what low tech, uncomplicated, and readily available method of marketing is available to you, and your immediate business goals choose that marketing method and stay consistent.
Defining oneself as a leader is a steady ever-changing process.
What I mean, for example, is engaging in my MBA program at Capella University is enhancing my leadership acumen. In this business report, I will address how to define myself as a leader according to the guidelines provided for this business report assessment. (a) Analyze myself as a leader; (b) Develop a statement of who I am as a leader, based on my analysis; and (c) Explain how the live coaching experience that I had during this course can help me use my leadership strengths and best self to achieve my professional goals.
My analysis of me as a leader validated my core values that are final and fixed such as, being rooted in my religious beliefs, loving my family, loyalty, faithfulness, and dedication to encouraging others to be their best whole person. My contacts view of me as a leader aligns with my top five whole person strengths in BetterUp’s Whole Person report. The holistic leadership assessment activities and journey revealed the intricacies of my strengths in supporting goal-oriented teamwork, staying mindful of emotional regulation without weakening leadership authority, keeping an open mind to opportunities like BetterUp coaching, and out of balance work-life threatens my leadership achievement and performance.
My top three strengths from the BetterUp assessment are flow, participation, and open communication.
My ability to focus on a project uninterrupted for hours is my preference. Flow is a strength that is easily adaptable to high-demand work projects. I use this method each day that I enter my office at the Alameda County Small Business Development Center (SBDC) as the director. I spend focused hours writing requests for proposal and grants, funding narratives, and program reporting use of federal and state
Encouraging my team to take initiatives and voice their ideas, opinions, and critically think in the workplace builds their skills. Participation builds trust and camaraderie in the group. It is normal for me to have a 1:1 meeting with team members for them to share project updates, ideas, and concerns. We have a lot of fun exploring innovative and implementing ideas that enhance our customer’s experience.
Cultivating a work environment that encourages open communication mitigates unnecessary confusion and complaints. I encourage direct feedback, having candid diplomatic discussions on tough issues, and conversations around improving processes. As a result, our productivity is high, and our team spirit higher.
My contacts expressed similar thoughts about who I am at my best. I am at my best when I am able to help others achieve their goals, complete clearly defined projects with team members, and focused time to accomplish the goal. I thrive on fighting to help others succeed, determined, compassionate, and leverage opportunities to create win-win outcomes for everyone. I am able to stay calm and solve problems even if they do not go as planned. I will sacrifice leisure time at home to accomplish the goal by pushing myself to extreme limits. I set my sight on something and work until I get it right.
The best way that I can describe how my strengths reflect my actions while at my best is my willingness to lose temporary disputes. I decide on whether it is necessary to win or not. Can the job get done without insisting on winning a brief dispute? As a leader, I am willing to sacrifice being right so that we can succeed and win as a team.
My purpose is to lead and inspire people to live life with purpose. A few of my top professional values include helping others, collaboration, achievement, and creativity. My three leadership strengths flow, participation, and open communication are the strengths that bridges to my top professional values that support my leadership strengths to help people live life on purpose and resolve.
The BetterUp experience coaching session focused on my top three strengths and mindfulness strength for me to achieve my professional goals. My best
self is to maintain my balance by taking time out for me, delegate, communicate, and do not overflow on projects. My plate is stacked full with SBDC work, being a radio show personality, small business magazine publisher, and an MBA student. The best self is achieving total balance to reach professional and personal goals.

My Husband LOVES pork chops, so I’m always looking to create new and tasty ways to prepare them. Usually, I would use Panko bread crumbs, but I wanted a different texture and crunch, and the pretzel crisp worked perfectly. It may seem like a lot of steps, but trust me, the recipe is easy to follow and simple to execute.
4 Boneless pork chops, Seasonings to taste: Kosher salt, pepper, garlic & onion powder, dried parsley
Directions:
1 ½ cups of flour
2 eggs + 2 Tbsps. of water
1 ½ cups of crushed pretzel crisp (I used my blender to grind the pretzels down)
¾ cup of Canola oil, for shallow pan-frying
For the Mustard sauce
1/3 cup Spicy mustard 2 to 3 Tbsps. vegetable or chicken stock Pinch of salt, pepper, and dried parsley
1 Tbsp. of brown sugar
1 pat of butter
For the chops: season the chops on both sides and set aside. In a medium bowl, add the flour and season liberally. In a second bowl, add the eggs and water season liberally. Add the crushed pretzels to a third bowl. This is the breading station for your chops. Take one chop dredge in the flour, coat in the egg wash, and then coat with the crushed pretzel set aside. Repeat this process for the remaining chops. Shallow fry the chops on each side for about 3-5 minutes per side or until done. Set on a rack to drain excess oil.
For the mustard sauce: Add all of the ingredients (except the butter) to a small saucepan and mix together on medium heat (do not boil) taste to check the seasoning. Turn off the heat and stir in the pat of butter. Serve on top of your yummy pork chop & garnish with chopped fresh Italian parsley.
Cook’s note: Don’t eat pork? Use boneless skinless chicken breast or Pacific Rock Cod.
It could be argued that Sherlock Holmes is the best known private investigator of all time, even though he’s a fictional character created by mystery writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The Holmes’ novels have entertained readers for well over a century, as the ponderous investigator follows baffling clues to reveal the identities of evil-doers.
Holmes is known as a keen observer who often uses forensic science and logical reasoning to uncover the truth, attributes that serve real-life investigators equally as well.
That said, Kroot honed her skills as an 18-year investigator for the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. Before that, she was a corporate investigator for five years for Advanced Micro Devices.
Her experience is complemented by a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice administration. She also holds an Advanced POST Certificate from the state of California, having completed the specialized investigator academy for the Peace Officers Standards and Training.
“It’s a gratifying profession because you’re helping people solve problems,” said Tracey Kroot from Kroot Private Investigations. “You can make a huge impact on peoples’ lives for the better.”
Kroot is one of an estimated 33,000 licensed women private investigators in the U.S., according to Data USA. It also says there are over 40,000 licensed men in the field.
“It’s pretty awesome being a female in a male-dominated profession,” Kroot said. “I think we bring a different approach than men. We blend into the environment better, so we’re not scrutinized as much as men, which is critical to getting a good result. Recently, I was in a bar asking bartenders and managers about a former employee. I think they were comfortable talking to me because I’m a woman. A man might have been seen as a stalker or someone from law enforcement.”
Kroot founded her all women, San Jose-based investigation firm in 2015.
“Back in the day, I dealt with a lot of children, elder, and domestic abuse cases,” Kroot said. “These can be extremely-sensitive and personal conversations, and I think women are better equipped to have them because we’re usually more empathetic than men.”
Kroot went on to say that “oftentimes the ‘good old boys network’ comes into play, but just as often they’re looking for a female – it gets back to empathy and approachability.”
The perception that men dominate the industry is one reason why women private detectives have formed strong support networks, Kroot said.
Today, Kroot focuses on family law and child support cases. She’s also hired to conduct witness

licenses private investigators after they’ve completed three years of intensive on-the-job training.
So, the reality is quite different from the “Hollywood” private investigators portrayed on T.V. and in the movies.
She recently conducted an asset search on behalf of an attorney whose elderly female client had “lost” $250,000.
“I searched the woman’s house, but couldn’t find any documents relating to the $250,000,” Kroot said. “I did find keys to two safety deposit boxes, so the attorney and I picked up our client and took her to the bank. We found $25,000 in cash in the boxes and the original cashier’s checks for the money. But the checks were expired, and the bank had no record of them because they were more than seven years old.”
Most banks don’t keep records past seven years. In the case of our elderly woman, the bank did try to track her down and, at some point, re-issued new checks.
“But a woman by the same name in Georgia had cashed them,” Kroot said. “The FBI got involved, and the bank had to make my client whole to the tune of $250,000.”
“We’re not Charlie’s Angels,” Kroot said. “Nothing gets solved in 60 minutes, but it is exhilarating when you solve a complicated case – you just can’t make this stuff up.”
Tracey Kroot can be contacted by phone at 408309-7064 or email Tracey@pi-kroot.com. Also, visit her website at www.pi-kroot.com.
Kroot isn’t particularly fond of stake-outs because “they’re boring,” but those sometimes come into play, depending on a client’s needs. She avoids cases she thinks might put her in danger, choosing to leave those to her male counterparts.
“Most of my clients are attorneys or have been referred by an attorney. So that provides an extra element of security because they’ve been prescreened,” Kroot said.
Social media is a tool she frequently uses to uncover secrets people don’t want to be exposed. Other computer-based tools are rigorously reg ulated by the state of California, which tests and
What is today's standard on the Code of Ethics and business conduct? It is a question that may ring, regularly, throughout the political fabric of this great Nation. It is a time of much character uncertainty. A code of ethics must start with the leadership's core values and beliefs. A leader is a leader when no-one else is watching and conducts themselves at an exemplary standard. Great leaders, genuine leaders' character is not uncertainty, it is sure and refuse to bend toward anything that diminishes the value of their core beliefs.
Values are the moral code of a person. It is that moral code that sets the standard or values for a new venture. The word value presumes that value or the moral compass of a person is always right. The value is the belief system of that individual, be it good or bad. With that said, “The values and morals that entrepreneurs draw on to guide their ethical behaviors come from a variety of sources, including their family upbringing, their faith traditions, mentors who have shaped their lives, and the communities they grew up in” (Scarborough & Cornwall, 2019, p. 54).
Developing a Code of Ethics in a business venture is the baseline of how you plan to conduct business and what your company team members should emulate and follow. Examples to consider, when developing your Code of Ethics are:
1. Honesty
2. Trust
3. Accountability
4. Professional Integrity
5. Respect
6. Inclusiveness
Using the above starter list, can you think of other guidelines that are important to add to your Code of Ethics? After you develop a Code of Ethics list, define each into instruction and a principle to integrate into your small business or micro business foundation.
S.T.E.A.M up! Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics a global revolution, don’t miss it!
The G7 (the world’s leading economic countries, which are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States) are all exploring the use of blockchain for use in their stock markets.1 Both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank have launched a private blockchain to fully understand the technology. Blockchain enhances the integrity and trustworthiness of business transactions.2 Blockchain can prevent the violation of trust and vulnerability of innocent consumers and organizations.
Blockchain is cryptographically secure, and experts are forecasting; it will affect trillions of US dollars to the global economy. We now live in the 4th Industrial Revolution. With AI, swarm robotics, machine learning, the Internet of Things, in these backgrounds, blockchain will coordinate the platforms that adversaries would use to compromise security and privacy. Currently, AI and blockchain are the most disruptive technologies that are being exploited on the planet.
AI and blockchain are destined to alter our lives, work, and how we interact.
Blockchain is the power behind a serverless Internet and decentralized web where users will control their data. For instance, in the healthcare industry, patients will have the power and ability to monitor who uses their data and to obtain data copyrights. Blockchain technologists and subject matter experts are working on solutions that will tie together untrusting devices. Such as cell phones, the Internet of Things, and swarm robotics, so consensus will be possible in key decision-making cases such as when to update the software on a dishwasher.
Blockchain can be described as an example of triple entry accounting. Each participating member of the blockchain will possess its own transaction records. The blockchain would contain the third record of each transaction. For each transaction, there is a private record for both the sender and receiver and a third recorded to the blockchain. Also, blockchain allows for easier auditing and reconciliation of transactions, and automation of auditing processes, by having all transactions in one place. The future is bright for blockchain, but also for those who dare to pursue Fourth Industrial Revolution opportunities. Blockchain has proven itself as a robust storage, information tracking, and transaction tool. Harnessing the power of blockchain to ensure that everyone’s rights are protected while simultaneously ensuring inclusion, safety, interoperability, and scale will deliver massive positive outcomes.
Most people already know about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin. However, these currencies would not be possible without blockchain technology. In 1991, Stuart Huber and W. Scott Stornetta cryptographically secured a chain of blocks that today has evolved to be what we know as blockchain technology. In addition, the meteoric rise of cryptocurrencies has made the blockchain’s visibility and strength somewhat weakened. For sure, the future has many ingenious tweaks, hacks, uncertainties, and inventions in store ripe for those who can successfully exploit the technology. Entrepreneurs who are life-long learners who can apply their abilities to make new products or services happen will find interesting and prosperous life journeys.

If current predictors are an indication of a looming economic recession, it is defi nitely, time for Small Business Owners in the Social Events Industry to pay close attention. The National Bureau of Economic Research defines a recession as “ riod of falling economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months.” Although a recession can be a stressful time for businesses and consumers, I am better prepared this time around should it come to fruition and ready to make the most out of the opportunities it can bring.
During a recession, consumers in the Social Events Market are:
More guarded on how they spend their money;
Searching for a good value
Looking for original and unique ideas
When consumers feel unsure about the economy, they tend to spend less but have higher expectations. This can be an excellent opportunity for Event Planning Industry Professionals to shine in a variety of ways that can secure lifelong clients and secure, if not boost, your company’s bottom line.
1. Spend the Client’s Money Wisely
a. Select “off-season” dates for the event – The most popular months for a wedding are May through October. A January or November wedding can save a lot on the purse strings (minus holiday weekends).
b. Opt for a “non-traditional” day of the week - Most celebratory events take place on a Friday or Saturday, but venues offer reduced rates for every other day of the week that can save your client sub stantially. If you plan your “off-day” event far in advance, guests will usually make adjustments to be in attendance.
c. Reality checks. Keep your client’s expectations in check with their budget. With all of the glitz and glamour photographs splashed across social media, it’s easy to get carried away in the excitement. It is essential to keep a close eye on what is and isn’t possible to stay on track with the budget.
a. I’m sure almost everyone has heard the quote “Less is more” by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe, and in this industry, it is a quote that should always be in the back of a planner’s mind. Serving five mouthwatering appetizers far outweighs serving eight to ten mediocre ones. And the catering costs can be significantly lowered. It’s less expensive for the chef to produce 300 of the same food product than 100 each of 3 products.
b. Premium beverages. Providing a hosted bar of premium beverages can become very expensive. Instead, offer guests one or two popular specialty drinks, quality wine, and beer. Despite popular thinking, most people are less as much a connoisseur of alcohol as one would believe.
c. Do you need to invite 250 people? Hosting Social events should be for family and friends who are genuinely a part of your life. Inviting people for the sake of asking them is
undoubtedly a way of spending additional funds. Unless you’re hosting a fundraiser, include only those people who add value to your life before, and will continue to do so, after your affair.
a. If flowers are going to be a part of your décor, knowing what flowers are in season will provide cost savings. Centerpieces flowing with beautiful Dendrobium or Phalaenopsis orchids will be more affordable during the spring versus other seasons and will elevate your event.
b. Choose a venue that is gorgeous all by itself. Have you seen the views from The Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay, or the ethereal beauty of the Hartley Botanica Gardens in Somis, CA? The elegance they offer requires minimal additional décor, which always helps the budget.
c. Consignment – “The resale customer is no longer somebody else’s customer; they are everybody’s customer. Mass market or luxury, if people can find a high-quality product for much less, they’ll choose used.” says James Reinhart, Co-founder & CEO of Thred Up. Remember, this concept is not just for clothing.
Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.
— Winston Churchill
During a recession, business owners in our industry must know the value of their brand and how vital it is to the experience for their clients.
As a professionally trained and skilled Executive Event Planner in Corporate, Government, and Social events, I have a particular passion for Social Events. While strategically planning meetings has its rewards, successfully implementing a social event, which creates priceless, lifelong memories for my clients, is an indescribable reward that allows me to be profitable during good and not-so-good times.
When you incorporate the aspects you are passionate about into your business; you can continue to be a relevant player in your industry; because it’s more than just the bottom line to you. It is a driven heart to pursue that passion. It is important to stay current in your field, continually learning and networking. You are willing to go above and beyond even if occasionally the margins are lower than desired.

My passion for homeownership started as a carpenter over 20 years ago. I would build homes in Tijuana, Mexico, for single moms and families that were disadvantaged. It meant something special to hand over the keys. And that I had a strategic part
in creating generational wealth through real estate for not only the parents but for their kids. The same rings true to this current day. I’m still that personal key to encourage, educate, and empower people to invest in their future.
Concerned about how to bridge business gaps, politics, gender gap, race, culture, faith, disabilities, diversity, and age into your small business? We help bridge gaps.
My two girls mean the world to me, and my husband has played an enormous role in supporting me with my dreams. I've been a successful business owner since 2004. Real estate is my passion, and I get the privilege to assist in significant life events with families all over the bay area. I've also learned some mommy lessons along the way and would like to share.
Find time in all the busyness to stop. Stop and take in your children's voices. Ask them questions and watch them light up to have a conversation with you. Ask them about their day and give your undivided attention as they pour over their day. The small 15-30 min convo means so much more to them than you think. I see the look on my daughters face when I shut out everything and everyone else. It makes them so proud to be the main focus of my attention when so many outside things fight for my time. Find time to crawl into bed and sleep with your kids sometimes and let them know they're never too old for a cuddle.
Permission to not be 100% in everything that's on your plate. Sometimes I wish I had more time in the day to finish the several loads of laundry that are piling up or keep the house spotless — continually cleaning up after two rambunctious girls is tiring! But I'd rather see them make a mess from their toys utilizing their imagination than sit with an electronic device and veg out all day. I want to think that I'm a superwoman, but let me be real; I can't do it all. Stress was eating me alive all because I wanted to have everything perfect. Pick and choose your priorities. Whatever can't get done in those 24 hours, can wait until the next day!
I think it’s empowering for children to see their mothers in a work environment and BOSS mode.
I found that my girls appreciate going to the office with me and look forward to being my "assistant" when viewing homes. I think it's empowering for children to see their mothers in a work environment and BOSS mode. My clients have all been fantastic, and my girls learn to behave around adults and conduct themselves around professional environments. I want my girls to see that mom has different sides to her, and they can all be complimentary. I'm leaving a legacy, and I want them to see that mom's hard work has left them something that can be carried on for generations.
Zen is a word that is elusive in its ability to be succintly understood and its benefits.
Zen is enlightenment through the most direct possible methods. Society’s workplace is in desperate need of this thing that we call Zen. There is a painful aching need for peace within. Peace is a powerful, organic force desired by everyone, and it is the foundation needed to create success, joy, and love. What is true inner peace? Can it be attained, and by what means?
Over 40 million adults suffer from unmanageable stress levels, and there’s no indication with the way things are going, that what’s on the horizon communicates any real remedy. In the past five years, stress levels have increased. The hard question to ask is, ‘Why?’ High levels affect individuals and entire organizations alike. Should the focus be on reducing stress and anxiety or on the prevention of them? Both.
A balanced human being has fluctuating but equal levels in these four qualities. An unbalanced human being is grossly out of alignment in more than one quality, if not in all at the same time. It’s not difficult to see that dealing with high levels of stress can and often trigger new additional waves of anger,
grief, guilt, low self-esteem, and fear, which in turn snowballs into more significant amounts of stress.
It is essential to access a service that addresses both acute and chronic challenges, to help right now and at the moment.
Gradually, the basics evolve into a positive forward momentum that is noticeable, palpable, like being able to hit the ‘reset’ button for your life but in real-time. My coaching specializes in bringing a complex field of study and practice directly to you in a variety of offerings to best serve individuals and organizations collectively. You wouldn’t put a simple bandaid on an ulcer, much like you wouldn’t put a coat of paint on a cracked foundation, pretending it’s going to help. People react and handle stress in different ways, and unfortunately, more times than not, the outcome is not good and is harmful and hurtful to themselves and others. Every moment of your life, you have many choices. How will you begin to choose differently so that a brand new outcome will result?
In my practice, I help by first clearing away the multiple layers of clutter by directing my clients to the simplicity and beauty of
There is a direct correlation to nature and our four basic human qualities; physical relates to the earth, emotional relates to fire, mental relates to water, and spiritual to air.
each moment; within themselves and through nature. When you take a deep breath, slow down, and allow yourself to consider there is no “Oops” in nature, how can there be an “Oops” in you? Even if you are stuck in a negative cycle of reacting to stress and anxiety for years that has undoubtedly brought you more of what you don’t want, believe that positive change can occur more quickly than you think. Through a combination of bite-sized meditation practice and knowledge to help secure a new foothold, you’ll be well on your way to a much more enjoyable, peaceful, and inspired life.
The benefits of meditation and establishing or expanding upon an existing practice read like film credits at the end of a movie. I will name a few.
*Improved concentration, memory, and creativity
*Weakens/lowers negative emotions
*Extends mental space
*Cultivates greater awareness
*Increases hope
*Promotes non-judgment and peaceful observation
*Promotes happiness
*Improved productivity and performance
*Psychosocial well-being
*Promotes emotional intelligence and motivation
*Promotes relaxation and peace
*Positively benefits occupational innovativeness and development
In a time where there are high levels of fear that feed stress, anger, anxiety, and poor sleep and health issues, there is an even greater remedy. It is one thing to talk about ‘someday’ or ‘tomorrow’ when wishing to create change. But talking about making steps towards reducing and preventing negative and harmful things like stress, talk is cheap and will do nothing. Action is required. That action is inward, silent, peaceful. Welcome to meditation.
Diversity in the workplace is a hot topic. Diversity is often viewed as a topic about ethnicity. Ethnicity is only one of many components that make up the differences. Other factors may include gender, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, and more.
As a millennial, gay, male, Latino, with a disability, I have encountered discrimination on many levels in both my personal and professional life. Being a feminine gay male, the perception about my sexual orientation has probably been more prevalent than that of a masculine gay male and has resulted in varying degrees of prejudice toward me from namecalling to physical and sexual assault. #metoo
All workplaces should be free of discrimination – but they’re not. Recent news has showcased that even the highest ranking officials in Corporate America and even the White House are allegedly at fault for discrimination, sexism, and unfair practices. In Silicon Valley, diversity is everywhere, and although it is valued in the workplace, many institutions fail to be inclusive. Diversity and inclusion are two very different things. I once heard an executive of a start-up company speak about this topic at a Silicon Valley conference. She stated that diversity is “inviting everyone to your party,” while inclusion is “making them feel happy they came.” The difference between these two matters is vital because one focuses on making sure a population is represented, the other focuses on making a population feel valued. Diversity and inclusion are personal. Protected classes are cultures, and culture often defines people and their values. All it takes is one culturally insensitive employee to disrupt a workplace, and like dominoes, the disruption
will spread. It can lead to high turnover, negative branding, and a potential lawsuit.
Most forms of discrimination I’ve experienced have occurred regarding others’ perception of how a male professional should look. I dye my hair blond and have brown low-lights, and I prefer to wear foundation on my face. It is not uncommon for professionals to wear foundation. Except for a man, it is. Some may mistake this culturally influenced characteristic as being unprofessional. A new manager with a former employer, for example, implied that I did not have a pleasing appearance that “conveys professionalism.” I was shocked because I wore suits virtually every day, I had been a public spokesperson for over six years and at the time, been featured in magazines, television, newspapers, and radio. I was an appointed government official, an expert in my field who held numerous executive level positions in the community.
In this particular case, the new manager removed me from all future public engagement opportunities. If I were a heterosexual woman, I wonder, would I be treated the same way? Why now, after over six years, was my appearance suddenly a problem? Is this, possibly, an example of discrimination based on gender and perhaps sexual orientation?Diversity is the first step to leveling the playing field for minorities; the next is inclusion. For employers, I recommend that they make every attempt to treat all applicants and employees equally while being mindful that special considerations exist that are unique to a population. In my case, for example, my attire and appearance

were never unprofessional. Instead, it was unconventional – a considerable difference. For job seekers, I recommend that when they feel they may be experiencing discrimination that they speak up.
Many times discriminatory behavior takes place by mistake, an unconscious bias. It does not excuse the behavior; However, it provides an opportunity for the job seeker to educate the employer so they can hopefully learn from their mistake and change their behavior.
People are different, that will never change. When we accept these differences and leverage them to promote creativity and innovation, we move our workplace, our community, and our society to the next level.
Financial intelligence the journey of how money works, amass, secure, invest, and handle it, is the bottom line.
1. If you pay a collection account, it will drop your credit score. If you want to pay a collection account that is currently on your credit report, it will drop your credit score because it makes the date of activity current. It is best to ask the collection company if they will stop reporting to the bureaus if you agree to pay the bill.
2. It does not make a difference on the FICO score if you settle the account versus paying the bill in full. If there are collection accounts to settle, do not let a mortgage credit be run. Experian has a program where they notify the collection companies if your credit has been run. If you run a mortgage credit report before you settle the collection, you will not get a good deal to settle. They know you want to purchase a home and in order to do that, you need to pay the collection.
3. Settle a collection at the end of the month, so you will get a better settlement. Collection companies have quotas they need to meet, and if you wait until the end of the month, you will pay less for the debt. If you have a collection company calling, tell them “do not contact me by phone” if they continue, you can sue them. If you have a robot calling your cell phone, that is an automatic reason to sue them also.
4. If you have one or more accounts to settle, do not let a mortgage credit be run.
You should have four accounts in good standing to optimize credit score. It is best to have a home loan, car loan, and two credit cards. If you don’t have a home loan or a car loan, you should have four credit cards. Student loans, if not in deferment count as one of the four trade lines active on your credit report.
It is important to keep your credit card balances under 30% of its limit (15% is even better). If you keep your balance under 30% of the credit limit, you will receive 5 points to your FICO score, If you keep your balance under 15% of the credit limit, you will receive 15 points to your FICO score. Once you go over 50% of the credit limit, it will drop your score 18 points (per credit card).
If you have a collection company calling, tell them “do not contact me by phone” if they continue, you can sue them.
Inquiries:
5-9 inquiries in a two-year period will drop your score 20 points. Don’t let anyone run your credit. You can run your credit on the free websites, show that report to the person you are applying for credit and see if they can do the deal. If they can, then allow them to run your report through their company.
Don’t close credit cards:
Once you have eight years worth of credit history on your credit report, you get 40 points added to your FICO score. So don’t close credit cards. If you want to do a “transfer balance” to another credit card, that is ok, don’t close the credit card you moved the balance from. Don’t let the creditor close your account. Use your credit card once every 4 to 6 months, then pay off the balance.
Authorized User:
The authorized user still works today. Example: Mom has great credit, and she wants to help out her son. She can add him as an authorized user on her credit card, Mom’s great credit will go on the son’s report, son’s bad credit will not hop on Mom’s credit report.
The authorized user works for car loans and credit cards. If you want to open a home mortgage, you need to have your own credit established.
Types of Credit Cards:
If you only have major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express), you will get 16 points added to your FICO score. If you add a department store card to your credit, you will then have 27 points added to your FICO score.
Bank Accounts:
If you have a checking account, it will give you 5 points added to your FICO score, savings account gives you 10 points, if you have both, it will give you 20 points added to your FICO score.
DGS is the business manager for the state of California, providing procurement and business solutions for state agencies, local agencies, resource partners, and external customers. Each year, the state purchases 8 to 10 billion dollars’ worth of goods, information technology, construction projects, and professional services. As the business manager for the state, DGS oversees much of this acquisition activity through its regulations, policies, and programs.
DGS encourages small businesses and businesses owned and operated by disabled veterans to register and become certified to do business with the state. The Small Business (SB) and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE) certification programs provide these groups with bidding preference and contracting opportunities. State departments are required to contract 25 percent of their annual spending with certified SBs and 3 percent with certified DVBEs. Getting certified helps SBs and DVBEs compete for state contracts on a more level playing field with larger firms, promoting competition, and supporting California’s entrepreneur and veteran communities.
In January 2019, a new SB certification – Small Business for the Purpose of Public Works (SB-PW) – took effect for state public works contracts and projects, supplementing the existing SB certification. The new SB-PW certification expands opportunities to participate in public works projects as a certified small business to firms that are relatively small in the public works arena but are larger than allowed by the SB certification limits. Under the new SB-PW certification, firms with average gross annual revenues of $15 million to $36 million, or with 100-200 employees, can receive certification as a Small Business for the purpose of public works contracts.
State certification also opens doors to doing business with cities, counties, and organizations that have programs requiring them to award some percentage of their business or give preference to state-certified SBs and DVBEs. A list of the state’s reciprocity partners can be found at https:// www.dgs.ca.gov/PD-Reciprocity.
For more information about doing business with the state and its certification programs, visit https://caleprocure.ca.gov.
The DGS Outreach team serves the SB and DVBE communities by assisting businesses with certification and access to procurement opportunities through outreach and training. The Outreach Team works with diverse groups of business organizations and attends outreach events, participates in interactive panels, exhibits at events, provides workshops on certification and doing business with the state, and provides one-on-one advice to assist suppliers with the state’s procurement process. The mission of DGS’ Outreach team is to help SBs and DVBEs thrive through expanded business opportunities in California.
To find upcoming Outreach events, visit https://www.dgs.ca.gov/PD/Events
To find additional resources on doing business with the state of California, visit https://www.dgs.ca.gov/PD-SB-DVBE-Resources
DGS Outreach Program Manager Danetta Jackson has worked to champion the SB/DVBE Outreach program for ten years. She is proud of the program growth and thanks to executive leadership support within DGS, as well as the diverse talent of her team. She leads the Outreach program with a focus on educating small, disabled veteran, and underrepresented businesses to ensure they understand and can navigate the state’s procurement system. Also, her office provides training to state departments on contracting best practices to assist them in meeting their contracting participation goals. Danetta is responsible for forging strategic collaborations with small business organizations and agencies at the private, local, state, and federal levels.
For additional information about doing business with the state, contact the DGS Outreach Team at Advocate@dgs.ca.gov.
Some businesspeople view insurance like taxes a chore to get through costing money and required by others for compliance. Business insurance is too important and costly, so having this basic knowledge can save your business money while facilitating growth.
Business Owner Policy (BOP) is a popular package
combining Commercial General Liability (CGL) and Property Insurance. It may include Liability, Business Personal Property (computers, inventory, furniture), Lessor Coverage (required by landlords from tenants), Tenant Improvements, Cyber, Employment Practices, Business Interruption, and Additional Insureds. Most BOPs focus on a particular business risk category - a real estate office faces different risks than a restaurant, and their BOP should reflect that uniqueness. Basic coverages and deductibles can be adjusted. Since each carrier has a BOP version and preferred target customers, always ask if your business fits into their particular “appetite.” If not, you may be misplaced generically as Not Otherwise Classified (NOC), priced higher to discourage you, or even declined to quote. When adding special coverages, they are called Endorsements. Certificates of Insurance validate policyholder coverage to landlords and clients, sometimes at no cost, depending on policy/carrier/agency.
Professional Liability (PL), also referred to as Errors & Omissions (E&O) or Medical Malpractice, is not included in BOPs. PL is imperative if you provide a professional service or routinely give advice to clients. For home-based businesses (webmaster), PL may be sufficient for their needs without a BOP.
Both PL and BOP are imperative for accounting or medical offices.
Commercial Umbrella adds higher limits over several coverages. It can be a strategic way to increase overall coverage while saving over increased coverage on each category alone.
Commercial Vehicle coverage includes work trucks, but also the vehicles used for the combined business and personal use. If an accident occurs when using a personal-only vehicle for commercial purposes, personal insurance carriers may disallow coverage. Realtors driving clients around should have commercial- and personal-use coverage. Now, due to the National Commercial Motor Vehicle databases, a boating DUI in one state can impact commercial drivers licenses (CDL) in another. Employers need to monitor CDL motor vehicle reports regularly.
Worker’s Compensation (WC) is no-fault coverage for work-related injuries. It is always critical to provide safe working environments. Employers are required to provide WC in most states. Failure to comply can bring a criminal action. While optional in some states, such as Texas, it is recommended to help employees get suitable treatment, back-to-work, and protect employers from lawsuits. Sometimes Owners and Officers may exclude themselves from coverage, thereby lowering their WC premium, but risk no compensation if they too get injured on the job. Rates may be based on job category, payroll, and loss record (claims made). “Experience modifiers” reward established firms are having better than average claims record by lowering their rates. Inversely, firms with high claims records may pay higher rates or be non-renewed by carriers. Hybrid Solutions from multiple carriers may provide better coverage/rates.
Now, due to the National Commercial Motor Vehicle databases, a boating DUI in one state can impact commercial drivers licenses (CDL) in another.
