The widest choice We believe we have the widest choice of small ship cruises as we work with around 100 small ships all over the world. This brochure contains just 10% of the cruises we have. For a full range of cruises please see our website at www.small-cruise-ships.com. If we can't find you a small ship cruise somewhere, there probably isn't one available!

Front cover photo: MV Apolon off Dubrovnik - See page 13

Small ships – what and why? Our smallest 'ship' carries just 8 people and the largest carries a maximum of around 260. Most carry 40-100 passengers, and this gives them several advantages. • Nooks and crannies. Small ships can reach the parts larger ships cannot. A bay full of penguins in Antarctica, a small village in Papua New Guinea, a pristine reef in Fiji or a known polar bear haunt, larger ships can't access these nooks. • More personable. On a small ship, you will get to know the passengers, the captain and crew. It is strange, but true, that it is easier to meet people when there are fewer of them! • Rules and regulations. The standard for Antarctica is that no more than 100 passengers can go ashore. If your ship is carrying 150, or 300, either someone misses out or you have to wait your turn! • Small villages. If you are visiting a small village in Cuba, Greece or Tahiti, they will welcome a visit from 40-50 people, but 600? 3,000? Just not feasible. • Queues. What are they? Our thanks to the following for supplying images, and our apologies if we have missed you. We promote voyages with selected specialist cruise operators that don't cut corners in their quest to ensure you have an experience of the highest quality. Travel in an intimate, safe and comfortable environment. Travel to enjoy, but also to see and experience in the company of like-minded travellers. Our small ships offer comfortable to luxurious accommodation but above all else they are designed to take you to extraordinary places and give you amazing experiences.

Aaron Russ Expedition Leader and Founder

Powell Ettinger Managing Director and Founder

Caroline Worle Sales and Reservations

Aaron spent his childhood holidays on small ships around the Subantarctic islands, New Zealand and Antarctica. He has led more than 100 small ship expeditions to the world's most interesting regions. He has a degree in zoology, a passion for photography and a desire to showcase the world's top destinations. Antarctica remains his favourite, and he recently cruised the Scottish Isles, with the great Pacific navigator Mau Piailug in Micronesia, and in Papua New Guinea, Antarctica, Spitsbergen, Greenland, and the Canadian Arctic on a full traverse of the Northwest Passage.

Powell has 15 years' experience in the travel industry and also edited a wildlife and travel magazine for 10 years. Powell started his travel career trekking in the mountains of Morocco, Nepal, Iceland, Peru and Ethiopia before turning his attention to the seas and oceans of the world. Powell has travelled extensively on 6 continents including sailing the Greek islands and along the coast of Turkey, cruising along the Croatian coast, the Fjords of Chile and Greenland, along the Amazon River, the Scottish Islands, the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands off Australia.

Caroline has a love for the great outdoors and her travels began 25 years ago on foot with trekking in the Himalayas of Nepal and exploring South East Asia. She has also trekked in Europe and in the UK. Six years ago Caroline discovered boats and has since cruised the coast of England, the Channel Islands and the beautiful French coast of Brittany. Caroline’s latest cruise took her along the stunning coast of Croatia where she particularly enjoyed the island of Mljet with its salt lakes and forested National Park.

Prices Price quoted in this brochure are a 'from' price, indicating what we expect the price to be. Sometimes cruise operators alter their prices, down as well as up. On receiving an enquiry we will check the latest price available for the cabin type on the specific cruise requested and confirm it to you before you book. Additionally, we cannot guarantee availability until

we have checked with the cruise operator. Once we have checked the availability and the price we will quote the final cost for cruise and cabin type requested. Once you have booked with us, the price of your holiday will only change if there is a large currency fluctuation in which case we reserve the right to impose a currency surcharge. See clause 13 (Surcharges — Price Increases After Booking) of our terms and conditions for further information.

Single passengers Single passengers should enquire if there are any single supplement charges. Alternatively some of our ships have dedicated single cabins and some offer the option for single passengers of the same sex to share a cabin. When this is possible, passengers will not be charged a single supplement, even if there is no-one suitable to share the cabin.

Cruising in Croatia If you had to design somewhere ideal for relaxed small-ship cruising, Croatia would probably be it. Small, historic and picturesque towns set on dozens of islands with hundreds of small bays surrounded by a warm blue sea. And this is not somewhere to come if you want to lose weight. The food, very localised, is copious and utterly delicious and can usually be washed down with wine produced within 5 miles to complement the local cheeses and olives.

Croatia's coastal vessels There are many small ships that were designed and built specifically ply the Adriatic Coast of Croatia. Only vessels of under 500 tonnes are permitted into many of the small ports and harbours that make this such a perfect small ship cruise destination. We have split these vessels into three classes to help you choose the right vessel for you. They are all very comfortable, with air conditioning, en-suite showers and WC, and crewed by very experience Croatian crews.

Futura

MV Splendid

Adriatic Queen

Comfort

The largest, newest and most comfortable vessels with the highest staff ratio and almost everything included. These cruises usually include transfers, excursions, wine tasting and most vessels have spa pools on the upper deck.

Modern vessels with very comfortable air-conditioned cabins, all cabins have en suite with shower, but not quite as large or as well staffed as the luxury vessels. Most guided tours will be included in the price. We can arrange transfers if required.

The most popular cruises run on ‘comfort’ class vessels. All cabins have en suite with shower and air conditioning, but they are a little smaller than the above vessels and with fewer inclusions, though these can usually be booked on board if required.

Greenland Greenland is the 12th largest country (not quite a country) in the world, yet has a population the size of Hereford, about 60,000 who all live in a few small settlements around the edge. It has a vast icecap, around 2 kilometres deep and 2400 kilometres long. Scoresbysund, the world’s largest fjord system lies on the east coast, while the bays and glaciers of the west coast are known for their iceberg production. Everywhere the deep blue water contrasts with the brilliant white of the 10,000 year old ice.

Costa Rica & The Panama Canal The tropical climate of Costa Rica supports a range of ecosystems encompassing thick jungle, cloud forest, mangrove swamp, Pacific and Caribbean coastline and a handful of active volcanoes. The result is a destination with abundant wildlife. In the hilly interior sloths lay dormant, Howler monkeys swing through the forest canopy, caimans, anteaters, and coatis are all abundant, and flamboyant toucans screech and soar overhead. Another natural wonder, and one of Costa Rica’s premier attractions is the almost perfect cone shape of the Arenal volcano. Trade and shipping have seen millions of people pass through Panama but few have ventured far from its famous canal, leaving the beauty of the ocean, forest, mountain and jungle relatively undiscovered and untouched. Far-sighted travel enthusiasts will find

plenty of virgin territory and countless opportunities in Panama. Culturally, it’s a real global village, international trade having brought many immigrants, creating an interesting blend of cultures you’ll get to appreciate most in Panama City itself.

The Galapagos Islands The Galápagos Islands are amongst the most famous wildlife-watching destinations in the world. And no wonder, it’s almost impossible to exaggerate the sheer spectacle of the place that provided inspiration for Charles Darwin’s ground-breaking theory of natural selection. This remote archipelago is a land of stark lava formations, cactus forests, lush green highlands, turquoise bays and quintessential tropical beaches. But, best of all, it is overflowing with wildlife at every turn. Within minutes, sometimes seconds, of landing on this dot in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, you can be face-to-face with more strangely fearless and curious animals than anywhere else on Earth. Roughly 620 miles off the coast of Ecuador, and slap-bang on the equator, Darwin’s “Enchanted Isles” 48 | 01432 507 280 | www.small-cruise-ships.com

consist of a cluster of 13 “proper” volcanic islands (larger than four square miles) plus six smaller islands and more than 100 islets. Every one has its own unique atmosphere, distinctive landscape and inimitable wildlife. You can see everything from penguins living in the tropics and boobies with bright blue feet to tool-using woodpecker finches and male frigatebirds turning their wrinkled throat sacs into extraordinary, fully inflated red balloons. One day you could be watching time-worn giant tortoises in the misty highlands, and the next you could be snorkeling with playful sea lions in crystal-clear water. You could be sunbathing on black lava rocks next to prehistoric-looking marine iguanas, or sitting with waved albatrosses as they perform their bill-circling, swaggering courtship display.

In depth wildlife cruises

Family cruises

Luxury cruises

There are dozens of different cruises to the Galapagos Islands, but few provide the in depth cruise that Tip Top IV offers. 2 week cruises covering most of the islands and accompanied by a Tour Leader/Biologist in addition to a local Naturalist Guide. The tours are designed for wildlife loving passengers who want to observe and learn as much as possible about the Galapagos.

We recommend MV Legend. She has several interconnected cabins that are ideal for families with children. Children can enjoy a wide range of activities on board like stargazing, a visit to the bridge to meet the Captain, Nintendo Wii, handcrafts, and much more. On family departures there is a kids corner with trained staff and various activities for children of all ages.

There are several luxurious vessels that cruise the Galapagos, such as MV Majestic, one of the few vessels specifically built for cruising the Galapagos Islands. Majestic has just 9 double cabins and offers 4, 5 and 8 day itineraries, but some other vessels have suites with balconies and there are also some luxurious catamarans.
