The school opened on the 1 January 2016 following the closure of South Norwood Primary School. The academy is the latest school to join the Synaptic Trust. Opening and developing a new school is a huge privilege and responsibility. Everyone involved in this endeavour is determined to create a world class learning community where no child is left behind and where creativity and progress is fuelled by innovation and invention. Everyone, pupil and adult alike, is encouraged and expected to excel.. To achieve this we will develop and deliver an exciting and meaningful curriculum. We will create a stimulating and safe learning environment that is equipped and maintained to the highest standards. Our learning culture will be supportive and open to all and we will seek opportunities to work with others in order to develop our practice.

CURRICULUM We set high expectations for all our pupils by providing an interesting and challenging curriculum that engages them. By promoting excellent behaviour, children at the South Norwood Academy are keen to learn. All children are unique and we celebrate this diversity with individual learning targets to encourage independence and autonomy. At the South Norwood Academy, we foster a lifelong love of learning, through practical and cross-curricular learning. Our Creative Curriculum aims to deliver a twenty-first century education that will equip our children with the skills required to be independent and responsible citizens by:
PHYSICAL EDUCATION As a School, we actively support and encourage all our pupils to adopt a positive and healthy lifestyle. All pupils are given the opportunity to experience team games, dance, gymnastics, swimming and athletics, among other skills. A combination of Sports Coaches and Class Teachers deliver the PE curriculum as well as providing extracurricular clubs for both Key Stage 1 and 2, including girls’ and boys’ Football, Netball, Taekwondo and Handball.
FACILITIES All students at The South Norwood Academy profit from exceptionally well-resourced learning, ancillary and play spaces (including a Jungle Gym and Sensory Garden) with generous cutting-edge ICT provision installed throughout the academy. Younger children benefit from a brand new EYFS learning zone with all weather outdoor learning space. A wide range of age-appropriate extra-curricular clubs are available to students with exemplary pre- and post-school childcare provision also on offer.
TECHNOLOGY Our classrooms are easily accessible and equipped with fantastic technology provisions to educate children in the context of the world we live in today. iPads and laptops are part and parcel of our teaching strategy accompanied by a strict e-safety policy to guide our pupils as they increase their technological proficiency.

TEACHING At the South Norwood Academy, we are committed to fostering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere in which children are inspired to achieve their full potential. By putting children at the centre of their own learning and with an emphasis on nurturing key skills and attitudes such as resourcefulness, resilience and co-operation, we make learning meaningful and memorable. Our Teaching and Learning policy is pivotal to all we do, setting out clear expectations and a uniform approach that can be easily monitored ensuring equal opportunity for all our pupils.
Believing and acknowledging that all children learn in different ways, our teachers provide a rich and varied learning environment which takes into account different forms of learning capabilities incorporating a
LEARNING visual, auditory and kinaesthetic element to each lesson. In order to provide this rich and varied curriculum, we take staff development very seriously keeping up-to-date with training and continual professional development of all members of staff and instilling our knowledge into trainee teachers as a teaching school. With highly trained staff linked to Ofsted, and an established and committed leadership team, the staffing structure of the academy is designed to ensure consistent
and effective leadership with the highest quality of management and teaching.
