Roy’s Treat

Focus Graphemes:

Written by: Fraser Milne

ou ea ie ir oy ay

May and Jean were sitting on a bench in the playground. “I do not like the oysters I have in my lunch today,” said Jean. 2

Just then, Roy turned up. “I will eat the oysters,” said Roy. “You can have my sandwich.” 3

Roy sat with the girls on the bench as they finished their sandwiches. Then Roy stood up. 4

“If you can tell me what the treat in my hand is, you can have it,” said Roy. 5

“I think you have a steamed meatloaf,” said May. “I think you have a sprout pie,” said Jean. 6

“No,” said Roy. “But at least you tried. You can still have them.” 7

The kids were enjoying their treats when the bell sounded. “Oh no,” cried Roy. “We better be quick. We do not want to annoy the teacher.” 8

Comprehension Questions: 1. What did Jean not like in her lunch? 2. What did Roy offer Jean for the oysters? 3. Why was Roy worried at the end of the story?
