ey aw ue wh
The days of the week got their names from planets, stars and gods. Sunday is the first day of the week. It got its name from the sun. 2
Monday got its name from the moon. If you have the Monday blues, you are sad because the weekend has drawn to an end. 3
Tuesday got its name from the god Tiu. He liked to get up at dawn, yawn, then start a war. 4
Wednesday got its name from the god Woden. His voice was as smooth as honey. 5
Thursday got its name from the god Thor. He liked whisking up thunder and lightning and whirling it down the valley. 6
Friday got its name from Frigg. This god could see in the stars what lay ahead for people. 7
Satur n
Saturday Understanding where a word comes from can help you spell it. The key to spelling Saturday with a ‘u’ not an ‘e’ is to remember that it is named after Saturn. 8
Comprehension Questions: 1. What day is named after the sun? 2. Who was the god of thunder and lightening? 3. What special ability did Frigg have?
