Jayce’s dad took him into the garden to pick tomatoes for their picnic. “The tomatoes are still green,” said Jayce’s dad. “We will pick some little gem lettuce to put in our sandwiches instead.” Then, they packed up their car and drove to Central Park. 3
When they got to Central Park, they unpacked their gear and laid their lunch out on a blanket. “What a magic day,” said Jayce. “The sun is shining, and there is a gentle, cooling breeze.” 4
5
“Let’s play a game of paper, scissors, rock,” said Jayce. “The winner gets the last glass of ginger beer.” 6
Jayce won using scissors to beat his dad’s paper, but he still shared the ice-cold ginger beer with his sisters. 7
“After all that sugar we need to run around to let off some excess energy,” said Jayce. 8
Comprehension Questions: 1. Why did they not pick the tomatoes? 2. How did they get to Central Park? 3. How did Jayce win the Ginger Beer?
