ea ie er ow ou ey
There are no wheels in nature, they are a human invention. Before the wheel, things were towed along the ground on a sledge. 2
A person could have got the idea for the wheel watching a boulder roll down a mountain. 3
The wheel was invented about five thousand years ago, around the same time as families started to group in cities and farmers started to grow wheat in fields. 4
5
With all the extra wheat that could be grown on farms, wheels called millstones were then used to grind the grain down for making bread. 6
Wind or water was used to turn the wheels that powered the millstones.
