On Monday, Mitch told his teacher he could not study for the spelling test because his kitchen nearly burnt down. Mitch’s teacher told the class the test would now be on Friday. The class cheered for their teacher. “Stop thanking me,” said Mitch’s teacher. “Thank Mitch.”

On Tuesday Mitch went to the bank. “We need some money to fix the oven,” said his Dad. “Thanks for coming.”

On Thursday, Mitch asked his Dad if he wanted help washing the clothes. “Thanks Mitch,” said Dad. “But be careful not to shrink any.”

On Saturday, Mitch made a treehouse. “I see you used string instead of nails to attach the planks to the trunk,” said Dad. “That tree would thank you if it could.”

Comprehension Questions: 1. Why couldn’t Mitch study for the spelling test? 2. What warning did Mitch’s dad give him when he offered to do the washing? 3. What kind thing did Mitch do when he built the treehouse?
