Airtel Launch Cashmania SMS Promotion

irtel has launched a customer reward programme under which one customer will win KES100,000 every day for ninety days. Under the airtel Cashmania promotion, customers will answer fun and easy questions and be entered into a daily draw for a chance to win in the daily draw. Airtel Kenya Managing
Director Rene Meza said that the promotion was open to all airtel customers on prepaid and post-paid tariff plans all over Kenya, adding: “This is our way of rewarding our discerning customers for their continued loyalty to our brand”. The promotion is comprised of daily periods of play where customers will earn chances daily. The chances earned will be accumulated
every day. For every correct answer sent in response to a question, the customer will receive 20 chances or more. For every incorrect answer, the customer will receive 10 chances. To participate in the promotion, clients need to send an SMS with their first name to the short code 888. Every SMS is charged at KES25. Daily draws are carried out and participating
customers stand a chance to win the KES100,000 daily cash prize. So far, eight winners have been announced and customers are encouraged to take part in the promotion. The promotion follows the just concluded bonus airtime promotion that gave airtel customers 25% bonus air time with each top up above KES100.

Barclays Sign USD13.5m Loan Agreement with Kenya Petroleum Refinery

arclays Bank of Kenya Ltd have extended a USD13.5m (KES1.25bn) credit facility to the Kenya Petroleum Refineries Ltd. (KPRL) for the acquisition of a 10MW power plant at the refinery in Mombasa. While confirming the transaction, Barclays Kenya Managing Director Adan Mohamed said: “We are delighted to enter into this strategic and mutual business partnership with KPRL that will no doubt secure the future of the refinery by boosting its efficiency and raising its competitiveness in one bold move. This capital investment project also is well timed, coming at a time when the refinery undertakes other modernization projects, with a view to meet the ever-growing demand for petroleum products across the East African region.”

Equity Bank Opens Fourth Branch in South Sudan

egional financial services provider Equity Bank has moved to enhance its South Sudan operations with the opening of its fourth branch in Juba. As part of its branch expansion plans, Equity Bank South Sudan has opened a fullyfledged branch in Juba’s Bilpam suburb, which holds commercial strategic significance as the home to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) general headquarters. The new Equity Bank Bilpam branch was officially opened by the SPLA Deputy Chief of General Staff for Administration and Finance, Lt. Gen Pieng Deng Kuol, in a colourful ceremony witnessed by scores of SPLA officers. Speaking during the launch, the Equity Bank South Sudan Executive Director Mr. Paul Gitahi thanked the South Sudanese government for its continued support and announced that the bank
was developing tailor made products and services for the South Sudan market. “We want to thank the government, central bank and people of South Sudan for their support and want to assure that we shall continue to research and develop products and services that address the needs and aspirations of our customers and the people of South Sudan” said Mr. Gitahi. The Chief Guest Lt General Pieng Deng Kuol, who was accompanied by other senior members of the SPLA, commended the bank for reaching out to the people and especially the soldiers who will now enjoy banking services closer to their general headquarters. He asked the SPLA staff to take advantage of Equity Bank services, which are now readily accessible in their locality. He requested the bank to invest in financial literacy training for soldiers.
