WE WANT TO MEET YOU! by Merrill Witty
In the spirit of giving...
H
oliday expectations can be a little intimidating — both for the gift giver and the receiver, for the host and the party guest. So I thought I’d try thinking a bit outside the box and asked several of our advertisers to join me out there. How could we open our minds to “better gift giving?” What do you give when you really want to make an impact — not necessarily by how much you spend but through your cleverness, insight and sense of fun? Sometimes we shouldn’t be worrying about the cutting-edge trends so much as about giving a special something that truly touches a person and makes her realize you know her. Giving an experience can be special. How about a prenatal massage for an anxious mom-to-be, or a Swedish massage for someone who is always doing you favors or just always there for you? Riding lessons or time at the horse center would thrill all ages — from animal-loving youngsters to the antsiest teenage girl to the adult who wants to learn something new. Spend quality time with your favorite children by playing games with them or reading together. Play can develop their thinking abilities, and building or solving something together can bond you with them in whole new ways. Bird watching is a time-honored hobby that you can do at home. Show our feathery neighbors you care by feeding them throughout the winter — and even learning their names with a field guide. Turn to Page 4 for details on these and many more fun ideas...

iding lessons at Columbia a Horse Center could be the perfect, unexpected xpected gift for anyone of any age – experienced ienced or not. What five to seven-year-old ld wouldn’t love game – oriented Pony Pal lessons? But involvement with tinier animals ls is gratifying, too. Anyone with a yard or deck ck will love the Squirrel Buster Plus at Mother ther Nature’s. It’s a squirrel-proof (really!!) feeder that is weight-activated. The tiny weight ht of a bird will open the feeding portal, but the he heftier poundage of a squirrel snaps it shut! t! Ha! s there anyone on your gift list who wouldn’t want a gift card from Massage Envy? A healthy skin facial reduces fine lines and wrinkles and reduces stress; the cranial-sacral massage eases back pain and headaches; while a sports massage can actually decrease the risk of injury.
