Shannon Lee ’07, MAT ’08 Baltimore City Public Schools
Shannon Lee was born and raised in Baltimore City, Maryland. After graduating from Baltimore City College High School, she matriculated at St. Mary’s College of Maryland where she majored in human studies and earned a B.A. and then her MAT degree. Since her time at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, she has become one of Baltimore City’s most effective and influential educators. A wife and mother of two young sons, Shannon continues to excel in her field, ensuring that all elementary-aged and middle-school students receive a quality and equitable education. Through her work as a math coach, Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) Chair, Attendance Chair, School and Family Council Chair, and Instructional Leadership Team member, Shannon has not only made tremendous improvements in bridging gaps in student educational knowledge but her efforts have even helped to strengthen community support. A passionate leader, and a committed educator, Shannon Lee continues to set a precedent for all future educators.
As part of the recognition of earning a graduate degree, masters and doctoral students participate in a hooding ceremony in the lead up to commencement. During this celebration, a faculty member places the masters hood over the head of the graduate, signifying their successful completion of the degree. The colors of the hood (which is worn down the back of the individual) signify the field of study and in some cases, the institution. The light blue velvet band represents education, while the yellow is a reference to the St. Mary’s College of Maryland school colors.
