SUMMARY
This project uses one of the buildings from the contest „Išmanusis miestas VII“ – old hospital of Anykščiai, which was abondoned at around 2008. The building is in the town centre, it‘s plot bordering pedestrian and bicycle pathways on the left side of the river of „Šventoji“. Before designing the project, research was performed. Firstly, an interview with two adolescent girls who spent most of their living in children‘s home was performed focusing on problems and difficulties of that environment. Secondly, analysis of analogues was performed on double-bedded and triplebedded children‘s rooms. The main focus points of the analysis were privacy and safery solutions, namely: physical safety, sharing of space with several people, establishing individual personality, lighting, decoration materials, colour scheme and elements of decor. Additionally, three books on the process and principles of creating a children‘s room were examined. The main goal of the project was to create a safe environment in a children‘s home where every resident could be heard and understood. The results revealed that absolute privacy is not necessary for a person to feel safe. A person only needs some personal space which one can maintain according to personal preference, a place where it is possible to sit back and relax when the world feels too big and to hide when needed. That is the main conclusion of this work.
