20102010-2011 Registration Procedures Your payment of fees is the final confirmation of your student’s enrollment at East. We have several options for method and timing of payment. Remember that students may not report to class until fees and fines are paid.

Step 1: Fee Collection We have several options for the payment of fees. The mail-in deadline is Monday, July 26. The Internet online deadline is August 5. Walk-in payments are scheduled for August 2 (noon– 7:00pm), 3 (7:30am-2:30pm) and 5 (7:30-2:30) in the library. All students should plan on visiting during our walk-in dates so that a student I.D. photo may be taken. Option 1 Internet payment, via credit card, is available from July 6 through August 5. Go to www.smsd.org, click on Internet Fee Payment on the left-hand side. There is a $3.00 service charge for using the online payment system. (When paying online, please enter a quantity for yearbooks and directories.) Please print and retain your receipt in order to pick up IDs and parking permits. Option 2 Mail your payment to: Shawnee Mission East, 7500 Mission Road, SM, KS 66208. Payments should be mailed so that they arrive at the school by Monday, July 26. Option 3 Walk-in payments will be accepted August 2, 3, and 5. We recommend walk-in payments for families who want to: 1) pay in cash; 2) set up a payment plan; 3) waive required fees due to Medicaid or Healthwave (please bring benefit card); or 4) enroll a new student.

Step 2 Student I.D. Photos We request that all students take a new student ID photo each year. I.D. photos will be taken August 2, 3, or 5 during fee collection. Student IDs will be printed and given to students at that time. Please bring your receipt if you paid fees online.

Step 3: Student Yearbook Photos Yearbook photos for all students (except seniors) will be taken DURING FEE COLLECTION DATES: AUGUST 2, 3 AND 5. We will also have two make-up dates: August 19 and September 9, along with a retake date on October 7. Please be aware that yearbook photos and I.D. photos are two separate photos. Make sure your student has BOTH an I.D. and yearbook photo taken. Senior yearbook photos will be taken at De Cloud Studios. Please contact them at 648-0882. (Continued on page 3)

Bus Information Parent pay contract forms are available by going to the district website: http://www.smsd.org/parents/ transportation.html, and clicking on “Bus Parent Pay Rider Agreement.” There is an early pay discount for parents who prepay by July 1, 2010.

Only authorized vehicles will be permitted in the parking lots of SME. All authorized vehicles must have a properly displayed student permit to park on campus. 1. 2.

Students must have a copy of their current vehicle registration, a copy of their driver’s license, and a signed copy of the rules and regulations on this page. Copies can be made in the library– at student’s expense. Bring the above copies to the library on August 2 (Noon—7:00pm) , August 3 or 5 (7:30am-2:30pm).

RULES AND REGULATIONS A. School parking lots are considered school district property; and, therefore, all actions, conduct, and behavior are governed by School District discipline procedures. B. Students driving vehicles that are parked on school property must be parked in designated student parking areas. Juniors will park in the junior lot, which is located on 75th Street on the west side of the building. Seniors will park in the senior lot, which is accessible from Mission Road and is located on the south side of the building. Although space is limited, SME will sell parking permits to all eligible students desiring to purchase a permit. Purchase of a permit does not guarantee availability of a parking space and parking, therefore, is offered on a first come first serve basis. Student areas are marked with yellow paint. (The administration of SME reserves the right to limit the number of vehicles permitted to be registered for the SME parking lots.) C. Vehicles parked so as to interfere with the flow of traffic will be fined and may be towed at the owner’s expense on the first violation. A $30.00 fine (minimum) will be assessed for parking in the fire lane, faculty/reserved/visitor spaces, handicapped spaces, no parking zones, double parked, or if a freshmen or sophomore parks on campus. SME also reserves the right to utilize a boot device that disables the front tire from moving and would require the payment of a fine ($30.00) for removal. Vehicles can be towed for any level of infraction described in this section. D. Authorized vehicles must be driven in a safe manner and observe a posted speed limit of 15 mph on school property. Unsafe driving may include, but is not limited to: speeding, reckless driving, driving the wrong way, driving over grass, and exhibition of acceleration. Violators are subject to loss of parking privileges. E. All regulatory signs are to be obeyed. F. If a junior or senior, for any reason, drives a vehicle other than the one that is registered to that student, it is the student’s responsibility to register the vehicle outside the campus police office (RM 312), using the sign-in book. G. Special and Temporary parking permits are also available. Students should report to the Campus Police for more information. H. Replacement stickers cost $5.00. Permits are not transferable. I. Permits must be displayed in the lower left (driver side) corner of the vehicle windshield AND in the lower left back window. No exceptions.

RESOLUTION OF PARKING CITATIONS A. Parking Citations will be issued by Campus Police Officers. B. Students may appeal their citation to the Student Court on the court date listed on the bottom of their citation. Students who fail to appear for their listed court date will be responsible for the payment of the fine. C. Fines will be paid to the bookkeeper, who is located in the main office area. D.
