“I was pretty surprised I was nominated because I kind of fly under the radar. It was a lot of fun and overall, a good experience. It was really cool to see who was picked, and it was just a great group of people. I was very excited to be nominated, and it was an honor to be selected by my classmates.”

CANDY LAND IN THE BACKYARD Right: Painting the gingerbread house of the senior ‘Candy Land’ float, senior Kinsey Cates takes on the responsibility of holding the float at her house. “My parents were nervous at first because of the size of everything but after the details were worked out they were fine, and since there wasn’t any destruction at all, it was disappointing for us but good for them,” Cates said. “It was really nice having everyone together working and putting ideas together.” Photo by Lauren Bleakley.

PAIN IS BEAUTY Left: Dressed their best, seniors Louisa Morton and Janna Graf pass the time in the auditorium before the halftime presentation for the Sweetheart nominees. “It hurt standing in our heels because we had to wait so long,” Morton said. “I definitely wear Converse with dresses most of the time, so I am not used to heels at all.” Photo by Lauren Bleakley.

ROYAL BREAKFAST Above: At McDonald’s, senior Matt Creidenberg eats with several other Sweetheart candidates before school. Each candidate was woken up by members of StuCo and told to meet for a quick breakfast before school. “All the candidates were there,” Creidenberg said. “I had a fantastic breakfast of sausage, biscuits and hashbrowns. I got to chat with the other candidates and hang out. I think it’s a great tradition.” Photo by Mackenzie Wylie. ROCK OUT FOR LOVE Left: Wrapping up their set at the end of Coalition’s Love 146 benefit concert, senior Tim Shedor plays bass for Menlo’s cover of ‘Black Magic Woman’ by Santana. “We figured we would go out with a bang by making as much noise as we possibly could for the last song,” Shedor said. “I was sweating profusely by the end of the song, but I smiled because we had accomplished what we wanted to and things went off basically without a hitch.” Photo by Anna Petrow.
