Advanced Clinical Supervision Certificate Monthly live video case conferences: September 2019 — April 2020 CEs: 62 continuing education credits are offered Changes in the context of practice have diminished support for supervisors, while intensifying the demands they face. Further, managed care and budget cuts have eliminated many supervisory positions, as well as training for the supervisors who remain. At the same time, many licensing boards across the country require weekly supervision for social workers who provide clinical services.
The Advanced Clinical Supervision Program
is designed to help clinicians: ■ conceptualize clinical practice by using multiple theoretical frameworks in the context of the supervisory relationship. ■ understand and achieve in-depth supervisory skills. ■ develop the capacity to adapt supervisory skills within the current context of practice. ■ enhance use of self in the supervisory relationship.
Certificate coursework provides a comprehensive theoretical framework and relational approach to supervisory practice.
Program Schedule
The unique design of the curriculum makes the program accessible to current supervisors of clinical staff or students, and consultant supervisors working with agencies and/or clinicians in private practice. Participants gather on campus in July for a week of intensive classes and return the following July for a second week of classes. Morning classes offer a conceptual framework for adult learning and clinical supervision followed by an afternoon of small case-based integrative seminars, which allow for in-depth application of concepts, and consideration of unique challenges in supervision. Between the two academic sessions, students apply theory and knowledge to their current work in live monthly video case conferences. The structure of the program offers a total of 13 months of training in clinical supervision.
