January courses available to help boost job prospects A limited number of places are available at the College on full-time courses starting in January.

The full-time Entry Level and Level 1 Vocational Studies courses are aimed at young people aged 16 to 18 who are not currently in education, employment or training and want to improve their prospects.

Karen Dobson, Principal and Chief Executive at NULC, said: “College offers a very different environment to school; we’re here to support people in achieving their goals whatever their starting point.”

On the Entry Level course, students can choose from the following subjects: Early Years, Health and Social Care, Construction, Hair and Beauty, Sport and Leisure, Public Services and ICT. Meanwhile the following pathways are available on the Level 1 course: Early Years, Health and Social Care, Public Services and Animal Care.

The College currently operates a number of schemes where students can apply for financial support and also sells bus passes at a reduced cost, in a bid to make studying at college more accessible.

A number of Apprenticeship vacancies are also on offer, meaning young people can study while earning money at the same time.

Loans can help cover tuition fees FOR the first time students who are studying a degreelevel course part-time can apply for a student loan to cover the cost of their tuition fees.

This means that, just like those studying full-time, part-time students no longer need to pay upfront for their studies.

If you take a part-time degree-level course at NULC, such as a Foundation degree or HNC, you can apply for a loan of up to £6,750.

Remember that a student loan is very different to a commercial loan – they do not go on credit files and debt collectors will not chase you for it!

You don't need to pay the loan back until you are earning at least £21,000.

Repayments start in the April four years after the start of your course or the April after you leave your course – whichever comes first, and is repaid through the income tax system.

If you lose your job, take a pay cut or career break once you’ve started repaying the loan, repayments stop or drop accordingly – no questions asked.

To qualify for a loan, you must be studying at a course intensity of at least 25 per cent of the full-time equivalent per year.

If you’re thinking of applying to start a course in September, it’s a good idea to send off your forms as soon as possible to ensure your loan arrives before the start of term.

new Higher Education course in Construction aims to boost workers’ skills and help them further their careers.

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction and the Built Environment launches in January 2013 and the College is inviting applications now.

Jason Lancaster, NULC’s Head of Construction, said:“The course is aimed at local adults who are already working in the industry but are looking to enhance their skills and develop a successful career.”

The two-year course is offered part-time, with learners studying one afternoon/evening a week, allowing them to continue their employment whilst improving their qualifications.

The course will help learners to progress into a supervisory role or professional position such as quantity surveyor or architectural technician.

The course is assessed through assignments and coursework throughout the year, meaning there are no formal examinations. It will be taught at the College’s £5million Skills and Technology Centre which is home to top class facilities and features industry standard equipment.

Jason added:“We’re accepting applications for the new course now, so I would urge anyone in the construction industry that is eager to progress in their career to get in touch with us straight away to find out more about the course.”

Leap back into education was one of ‘best choices’ Tom ever made TOM Durber, aged 28, from Audley, joined the College’s Employment and Training Centre in March this year on an employability course.

The six-week course helped him develop his personal skills and look at training and career options available to him.

Tom decided to progress on to a Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating.

He said: “I’m a more confident person, much happier in myself knowing I have a purpose and that I’ve changed my life. I found balancing home life and college life difficult at first, but I know it will be worth it in the end, as I want to make a success of my life.

“My biggest challenge has been theory classes, I’ve not been in a classroom environment since school but the tutors have been very encouraging and introduced me to new technology and techniques.”

Tom added:“I’ve really enjoyed learning new

skills and being challenged, using my brain and hands instead of just sitting at home being depressed. I’ve learnt to use computers and I’ve met new people which has helped my confidence no end.”

Tom now has a message for any other adults thinking about taking the leap back into education. He said:“100 per cent go for it! For years I sat at home depressed with my life and disappointed in the choices I’d made, waiting for my life to change.

“But it doesn’t happen by itself, you have to change it yourself and going back to college is one of the best choices I have ever made.”

OBS have been secured for more than 100 unemployed local adults since Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) launched a new initiative in April.

The Steps 2 Work programme helps people who are out of work to develop their existing skills and gain additional vocational qualifications to help them back into employment.

Tim Trickett, aged 53, from Knutton, joined the progamme in May this year having faced redundancy. The former chef signed up to the Steps 2 Work programme where he improved his Maths and English skills as well as gaining a Level 1 vocational qualification in Warehousing and Storage.

He passed, and has since secured employment at the New Look Distribution Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme.Tim said: “The Steps 2 Work programme has been really enjoyable. I liked the group of people I was with and the tutors were excellent at their jobs.

“The knowledge and skills I’ve learnt have allowed me to secure employment, which is very hard to do at my age.”

Tim Trickett, 53, has found a job after enrolling on the College’s Steps 2 Work programme.

Alison Slack, Manager of the College’s Employment and Training Centre, said:“We are committed to helping local adults and assisting with the economic development of the county as a whole, and that means helping those seven per cent of people in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire who are out of work.”

Steps 2 Work helps adults gain the skills employers are looking for, while supporting them with CV workshops and interview training to give them a better chance of securing a lasting job.

Candidates are encouraged to undertake short vocational training courses in areas linked to the local jobs market, such as Care,Warehousing, Office Skills and Administration,Welding, Customer Service and Construction.There is also a specially tailored programme for lone parents returning to work.

To be eligible for the free training and support on offer, people must be aged 19 or over and claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), Employment and Support (ESA) or other work-related benefits.

A particular success has been the work the College has done with retail giant New Look, which has a distribution centre at Lymedale Business Park in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Since October the College has secured employment at New Look for 79 local adults, and a further 19 candidates have interviews lined up.

Alison Slack said: “We’ve worked hard to build relationships with local employers enabling us to provide excellent job opportunities to adults on the Steps 2 Work programme.”

Simple support makes big difference LEARNING Support Worker Claire Littlehales, aged 37, lives in Wolstanton with her 13-year-old daughter and is currently improving her maths and English skills at Newcastle-underLyme College.

She is employed full-time as a Learning Support Worker and has been diagnosed with dyslexia.

Claire joined the Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy course in September. She said:“I didn’t do very well in school. I never got the help I needed and it was only in later

life that I found out I had dyslexia.

“Overcoming my own barriers and attitude towards learning, I’ve adapted to new ideas and found ways to work with my dyslexia rather than against it.

“In the past I’ve let my dyslexia dictate what I could and couldn’t do but the College has been great by helping me with simple things like changing the colour of the background on the computers and providing hand-outs in a light blue colour

which allows me to see the words more clearly.

“I’ve lots more confidence and self-belief in my own abilities; I’ve even become the Chair for our team meeting at work, something I would have shied away from before coming to the College.

“I would tell other adults to give college a go and not to give up. At the College you’ll find great tutors and all the help and support you need.”

HORT films have been produced by NULC to promote the benefits of its Apprenticeships scheme.

The films – available to view on the College’s YouTube Channel (youtube.com/ newcastleulymecol) – feature real employers and apprentices talking about what attracted them to Apprenticeships with NULC and the impact that hiring an apprentice has had on their business Vicky Boulton-Clarke, Head of Employer Engagement, hopes the films will encourage more employers to take on an apprentice.

She said:“In the last year we’ve noticed a big increase in the number of local firms interested in Apprenticeships.

“These films will help anyone interested to find out more about what’s involved.”

Jack, 18, is tuned in to job in music

JACK Hilditch, aged 18, from Basford, joined the College in 2010 as a full-time student studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Technology.

Having completed his second year of the Level 3 Diploma, Jack decided to progress on to the Foundation degree (FdSc) in Music Technology.

He has been encouraged to take part in work placements, allowing him to gain industry experience.

He said: “I have done voluntary work at Thistley Hough High School as a live sound and lighting engineer, I’ve shadowed sound engineers at local music venues and this year I will be taking placements at the Regent Theatre and the Mitchell Arts Centre, helping the sound and lighting crews.”

The College features a state-of-the-art Music Technology suite with industry standard equipment and a 200-seat auditorium for live performances. Jack added:“The course has changed my life. I now know exactly what I want

to do and I have a plan mapped out which sets exciting goals that I know I will achieve.

“I use top class equipment and I’m developing my skills while doing something I love, which is great!”

Volunteers trained in hospice partnership NEWCASTLE-under-Lyme College (NULC) has worked in partnership with the Douglas Macmillan Hospice to provide volunteers with a professional qualification.

The College has supported a number of volunteers from the Douglas Macmillan Hospice through the NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.

Gill Brealey,Tutor/Assessor for Health and Social Care at NULC said:“The qualification that the Douglas Macmillan volunteers have achieved provides them with practical and academic knowledge of the health and social care setting, allowing them to further enhance

the much valued care already provided by the outstanding hospice.”

The volunteers from the lodges at the Douglas Macmillan Hospice are the first volunteers to achieve the qualification.The Community Lodges are designed to provide palliative respite and end of life care.

The volunteers were presented with certificates for their qualifications at a presentation evening on 19 November, which was supported by the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire Ian Dudson.

New website has host of hi-tech functions THE College’s new website allows users to create a personalised prospectus, apply for courses online and in many cases also enrol online.

Lucy King, Head of Marketing and Communications at NULC, said: “Our new site allows users more functionality and a simplified and easy to use course search option.

“Whether you know the exact course you’re looking for or just want to browse what’s on offer, the new website allows you to do this in a clear and easy format.”

Users can register their details which gives them access to the ‘my NULC’ area, allowing them to bookmark the courses they are interested in

as well as tracking completed applications and enrolments.

The new website is also mobile optimised, meaning you can access the College website using a Smartphone and still enjoy all the functionality of using the main website.

The College strives to be at the forefront of digital technology and currently operates a Facebook and Twitter page as well as having over 20 subject blogs dedicated to documenting news and projects from each subject area.

“Having to stand at the front of a class and do activities with the children was intimidating, but now I love it and know that I belong at the front of the class helping children.”

Andrew’s advice to adults considering returning to education is to be realistic, think about what they like doing and think about the opportunities that are available in the local job market.

He added: “Then if you still have that nagging thought in the back of your head that you’re capable of achieving more, then go for it!”

Having completed his NVQ Level 3 in Children & Young People’s Workforce, Andrew has gained full-time employment at Holy Trinity Pre-School in Newcastle where he works as a Childcare Practitioner.

NDREW Gray, aged 44, lives in Newcastle with his wife aged 40 and twins aged 11. In 2010 he took voluntary redundancy having spent 12 years working in the steel distribution industry.

Deciding he needed a change, Andrew signed up for an NVQ in Children’s Care, Learning and Development at NULC. He said:“Following voluntary redundancy I decided to turn the situation into a positive and make a complete career change. I have two children and felt my future was in childcare. By gaining my qualifications at Newcastle-underLyme College I’ve got a new found self-belief.

“Having spent my whole working life doing the same job, it was quite daunting to think I was going to start all over again, but the College has given me the confidence and qualifications I need for a successful new career.

“I’ve worked hard to gain voluntary work in local schools and childcare environments, and I must admit that first placement I did in a Year 6 class was very challenging.

College set to expand to station site THE College has bought land housing the old fire station on Knutton Lane.

The site, which formerly belonged to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, is in an ideal location opposite the College’s main campus.

Ian Hookway, Director of HR and Communications at the College, said:“We are considering a range of exciting developments for the former fire station site in response to ever increasing student numbers, which will further enhance the range of outstanding facilities and courses available at our main campus. Staff, students, residents and other partners will be fully consulted throughout the process.”

The College intends to submit a planning application to Newcastle Borough Council early next year.

Aiming for a career boost with finance qualification

THE College (NULC) is delivering Apprenticeships to six out of the top ten businesses in Staffordshire.

A new report published by Experian lists JCB, Michelin, Dechra, Phones4U, Alstom and Bet365 amongst the county’s top ten businesses.

NULC works with more than 400 employers to provide Apprenticeships in Accounting, Beauty Therapy, Business and Administration, Customer Service, Construction, Childcare, Electro-technical, Engineering, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care, Sport and Leisure, Retail and IT and most recently Motor Vehicle Apprenticeships.

NHS Assistant Divisional FInance Manager Kelly Mandley is working to become a qualified accountant.

KELLY Mandley, aged 29 from Norton, is the Assistant Divisional Finance Manager for the North Staffordshire NHS. Kelly has 10 years’ experience in the financial sector but aspires to become a qualified accountant with the help of Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC).

Kelly is in her first year studying a professional qualification accredited by the ACCA at NULC. She said: “I’ve worked in finance for 10 years and have a wealth of experience and knowledge but I wanted to further that by adding a professional and industry recognised qualification to my CV.” NULC offers professional courses in computing, accounting and management for adult learners. Sarah Champ, Accounting Lecturer, said: “By studying for an ACCA or AAT qualification at the College, you’re studying a professional qualification which once completed will certify you as a qualified accountant, enabling you to progress further in your career in the financial industry.”

With her first exam in December, Kelly adds:“I’m hopeful I will pass my first exams. It is hard juggling full-time employment and studying but I know I’m capable and the staff at the College are really supportive and have helped to build my confidence.”

Students visit Africa to see cash in action A team of students from Newcastleunder-Lyme College (NULC) raised over £2,000 and visited Uganda to see how the money was put to use.

The Uganda Humanist Schools Trust (UHST) is the College’s nominated charity, with staff and students working tirelessly throughout the year to raise money to fund projects in Ugandan schools.

The Uganda Humanist Schools Trust helps a number of schools in Uganda who are working to offer liberal, humanist education to needy children, founded

by Uganda Humanists and run as charities.

A Level Dance student Holly Jordon and BTEC Art and Design students Shannon Downward, Grace Hancock and Katrina Wilde were accompanied by lecturers Faye Matthews and Jay Allen for a two week visit to Uganda.

Prior to the visit, the students spent months fundraising through events including fashion shows, dance performances, bag packing and cake sales, which raised over £1,000. The money raised by the NULC students went towards building new school dormitories for the children in Uganda, which they were able to see during their visit to the school.

In addition to seeing how their fundraising had been used, These children collect washing, drinking the students spent time working and cooking water throughout the day with children from the school on creative performances, teaching for their families.

STAFF and students at NULC have raised over £5,000 for charity over the past year.

The caring college, supported by its dedicated staff and students, has organised fundraising events throughout the year in order to give back to the community.

There have been a range of events from large scale fashion shows and sports events to small in house events including car washes, raffles, bake sales, fancy dress days, assault courses and face painting.

Charities benefiting from the College’s hard work include the Douglas MacMillan Hospice, the Special Olympics, Children in Need, Sports Relief, Fight for Sight and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Most recently students from the College’s Academy of Sport presented world cup hero Gordon Banks OBE with a cheque for over £1,300 for his chosen charity the Alzheimer’s Society.

Speaking at the presentation Gordon, said:“I’ve spent a lot of time at Newcastle-under-Lyme College and it’s great to see how enthusiastic the youngsters are to give to charity.”

He added:“I attended the Sports Relief Mile earlier in the year which had a great turn-out and the football match they held at Britannia Stadium for my chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society, was incredible. To raise over £1,000 was fantastic.”

NULC is the only college in North Staffordshire to provide Animal Care as a full-time course at Level 1 and Level 2. The College is working in partnership with Blackbrook Zoological Park in the Staffordshire Moorlands, where students are offered work placements, allowing them hands on experience working with the Park’s experienced Zoo Keepers and a variety of exotic and endangered animals.

NEW Horticulture courses complement the College’s existing construction provision and provide a route for students wishing to move into landscape construction and maintenance.

Horticulture students are able to make use of the new gardening facilities at its Skills and Technology Centre, which include greenhouses and space to develop hard-landscaping skills.

Tutors have also worked hard to engage with high profile local gardens and visitor attractions including the Dorothy Clive Garden, Tatton Park and Biddulph Grange Gardens to offer work experience opportunities and placements for students.

Emma Roberts, age 35 from Stoke, is a single mum to Sophie, aged 19, and Lilly, aged 3. Emma enrolled on to the Level 1 Diploma in Horticulture as a part-time student in September.

She said:“I have an allotment and love it. I really enjoy working outside and wanted to develop my career options so that I can work in Horticulture in the future and provide a good life for my daughters.”

Emma said she was motivated by making her eldest daughter proud, which she said would keep her going until she completed the course.

She added:“Going to college as well as being a

XPERTS at The Gordon Banks Sports Centre are urging people to sign up for a brand new personal training fitness programme.

Boppers now in business DANCE lessons for children aged two to nine-years-old have been launched at The Gordon Banks Sports Centre.

Banksy’s Little Boppers Dance School was set up after the success of taster sessions last year.

Louise Ziemann, Manager of The Gordon Banks Sports Centre said:“Children will be taught by dance professionals in a safe and welcoming environment, where they will get the opportunity to explore the benefits of song and dance in a fun way.”

The sessions take place every Saturday in the Dance Studio at the Sports Centre on Knutton Lane.

The sessions are 45 minutes long and taught by professional dance teacher Jennie Boulton.

BALLET: 2 to 5 years, 11.00am-11.45am HIP HOP: 2 to 5 years, 11.45am-12.30pm 6 to 9 years, 12.45-1.30pm Parents signing-up their children to the Dance School, will receive a free pass for use at the gym.

The dance sessions cost just £3.50 per child and there is no limit to the number of sessions a child can participate in.

The Impact Fitness programme is one of the first in the area that offers both a gym membership and guaranteed one-to-one training sessions with a qualified instructor.

The eight-week programme is open to both current members and non-members of The Gordon Banks Sports Centre.

Current members can take advantage of the new programme for an additional fee of just £10 on top of their current membership.

Non-members will pay just £50 for the eight-week programme, which includes full access to the gym and studio classes Louise Ziemann, Sports Centre Manager, said:“The new programme includes personal training sessions, gym access and fitness classes, all for the cost of one personal training session at other venues, making it a really cost effective way of achieving your fitness goals.”

The Impact Fitness programme includes an initial consultation to discuss individual needs and targets, a specially designed fitness

programme, an initial 30-minute supported workout, followed by eight one-to-one training sessions lasting 50 minutes each with a dedicated fitness instructor, weekly progress reviews and full access to the gym and fitness classes for the duration of the eight-week programme.

The Gordon Banks Sports Centre is home to a 25-station gym, air conditioned dance studio, sports hall and outdoor pitches.

The dance studio offers a range of classes including Zumba, Boxercise and Pilates. The facilities are also available to hire and are currently used by various local clubs including a number of 7-a-side football leagues.

Louise added:“We offer value for money gym memberships with top class training facilities in the heart of the community. We listen to what our members want and always aim to provide affordable services.”

Monthly members can take advantage of unlimited use of the gym, unlimited access to studio classes and use of the Transform Spa from only £20 a month.

Gordon Banks OBE officially opened the £5 million Centre, which is located on the new £60 million Newcastle-under-Lyme College site on Knutton Lane, in 2010.

School holiday sports camps a winner with parents PARENTS looking for ways to keep their children entertained during the school holidays can sign up for a Sports Camp at The Gordon Banks Sports Centre.

The Sports Centre, based at the Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) campus on Knutton Lane, is offering boys and girls aged from eight to 14 the opportunity to take part in a range of sporting activities during school holidays, including indoor and outdoor sports, football, kwik cricket, balloon volleyball, assault courses, introduction to martial arts and dance and more.

The next Sports Camp will run during February half-term, from 8am-4pm, with a whole day session costing £5; in addition children are asked to bring their own packed lunches.

Louise Ziemann, Manager of The Gordon Banks Sports Centre, said:“The Sports Camp we ran last year was a great success, so we’ve decided to roll it out for all school holidays in response to demand from parents.”

Louise added:“The camp will provide a relaxed and safe environment for children to enjoy a range of activities, helping them to make new friends, stay fit and healthy and hopefully learn some new skills at the same time.”

Parents must complete a registration form prior to the start of the session and all children must adhere to the respect policy, which has been designed by children who attended the Sports Camp, to ensure a safe and enjoyable time.

PORTSMEN and women at Newcastleunder-Lyme College (NULC) are celebrating a record-breaking year.

2012 saw a dramatic increase in the number of students choosing to study sport. Since 2009, the number has nearly doubled with 596 students choosing to study a sport qualification in 2011/12 – bucking the national trend.

Of those completing A Level PE this year, three quarters plan to progress to Higher Education.

Shelley Brown, Curriculum Manager for Sport at NULC, said: “We’ve had a phenomenal year both academically and practically and the demand for sport at NULC just keeps growing.We’ve extended our offer to provide a university-level HNC course in Sport and Exercise in partnership with Staffordshire University.

“The sports facilities are first class and teaching staff are experienced professionals. One lecturer even spent the summer at the Olympics as a member of Team GB’s medical team.”

Natalie Slater, aged 18, from Kidsgrove, achieved an A* in A

Level PE and is a member of the College’s Academy of Sport. She has competed in the British College Sports Championships for two years running, achieving a gold and silver medal in table tennis.

Natalie also won Senior Athlete of the Year at the Newcastle-underLyme Borough Council Sports Council Awards this year. She said: “On occasions I have had to take time off college to attend England training camps and playing at international level involves travelling abroad to countries like Sweden to play table tennis.

“Luckily, my lecturers have been really supportive and offered one-to-one sessions to make sure I don’t fall behind in my work. I’m so grateful for all the support from the College.”

The College’s A Level PE success was mirrored on its vocational courses, with 100 per cent of students studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise achieving High Grades.

In addition, 100 per cent achievement rates have been achieved for Level 3 vocational sport courses over the past three years.

Sports Academy named Number 1 in West Midlands NEWCASTLE-under-Lyme College (NULC) is celebrating after being awarded West Midlands College of the Year in the recent British College Sport (BCS) Awards.

The College was honoured at a Gala Dinner held at Aston Business School Conference Centre in Birmingham, where colleges and young athletes from across the country came together to celebrate sporting achievements.

NULC was also shortlisted for the National College of the Year Award, which was devised to highlight the

good practice in the Further Education sector, but was pipped to the post by Gateshead College.

Trevor Humphreys, Academy of Sport Manager at NULC, said: “This year NULC has worked hard to cement itself as one of the top further education providers for sport in the country.

“No matter what you want to study at NULC, you can combine it with top level

coaching, competition and support to help you achieve your academic and sporting potential.”

The winners were selected from colleges nominated from around the country in recognition of their significant contributions to BCS in developing opportunities for students and staff through sport, developing college sport regionally or nationally, and working in partnership with other BCS member colleges locally, regionally, or nationally.

The Awards offer an opportunity for those with little or no experience of coaching to be introduced to the principles of planning, delivering and evaluating coaching activities in sports.

PREMIER LEAGUE ACADEMY S

TOKE City striker Kenwyne Jones visited the College to highlight the importance of initiatives which encourage young people to participate in sport.

The Trinidad and Tobago international was joined by England and Manchester Giants basketball players Devan Bailey and David Watts along with the NULC Knights basketball team.

They launched a basketball project which will form part of the successful Premier League 4 Sport scheme run

by Stoke City Football Club for three years.

Local youngsters will be able to take part in coaching sessions across the county after basketball joined hockey, badminton, volleyball and table tennis as one of the designated activities under the Premier League 4 Sport directive.

Kenwyne Jones said:“This is a brilliant idea from Premier League 4 Sport. It’s so important to get young people playing sport.

“I was fortunate when I was young to be able to play so many different sports in the Caribbean and I loved basketball at school, even though I didn’t take it too seriously. For me, deciding to become a footballer was the right choice.

“You can see the enthusiasm of the young people and it’s fantastic that they now have this support to play the sport.”

“We operate a Basketball Academy for our students and also run the Newcastle-under-Lyme College Knights which is open to students and members of the community.

The launch of the Premier League 4 Sport basketball sessions is the result of a partnership between the Stoke City Community Trust and the NULC Knights Basketball team supported by Newcastle-under-Lyme College.

Olympic-standard facilities now available in Sports Science Lab THE College has cemented its commitment to sport by investing £20,000 in a new Sports Science Lab packed with the same equipment used by top Olympic athletes.

The lab is based at the College’s £6 million Gordon Banks Sports Centre and features top class equipment, including a Wingate Bike, Servomex Gas Analysis, Blood Lactate Testing, Ultrasonic Body Analyser and Heart Rate Monitoring System.

Shelley Brown, Curriculum Manager for Sport at NULC, said:“The new Sports Science Lab will enable students to have hands-on experience testing the College’s Elite Athletes and providing Fitness Testing and Health Screening.”

The equipment allows students to gain experience using professional sports equipment which links to their course assessments and provides a distinct advantage to students

progressing on to sports-based university courses and careers, where this type of equipment is used regularly.

Shelley added:“Students will gain practical expertise in the key science areas of Applied Physiology, Nutrition, Biomechanics and Performance Analysis.The equipment then collates data on computers, allowing students to enhance their communication, numeracy and ICT skills as well as interpersonal skills.”

The College is part of the Olympic Get Set Network in recognition for its commitment to sport and is determined to establish an Olympic legacy for young people interested in sport across North Staffordshire.
