For more than 50 years, one of the biggest draws at the lake has been the fishing, and striped bass is the king. Fishers of all skill levels descend upon the lake year-round in search of that special catch. Take home more than a memory with help from a local guide.

REEL ’EM IN: STRIPER FISHING RULES

SML is a world-class destination for striper fishing. The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources limits striper catches to 2 per day. There is no length limit from June 1 to Oct. 31, though any striper between 30-40 inches must be released from Nov. 1 to May 31. All other bass is limited to 5 per day year-round, but only 2 may be smaller than 14 inches. Other limits: Bluegill/Sunfish: 50/day; Catfish: 20/day; Crappie: 25/day; Muskellunge: 2/day, 30 inches minimum; White Perch: No limit; Other non-game fish: 20/day.
